Six Upcoming Developments That Will Change DayZ for the Better - Loot Rarity (wait, whaat?)

This is such bullshit. THERE ARE MILLIONS OF PLAYERS DEAN! IT WONT FUCKING WORK.

The loot system they propose helps combat that.

Pretty much it just limits the sheer number of military weapons in the game and high end loot so it is actually rare.

How would server raiding work exactly if there's no way to predict where the gear is going to be.

Its really easy though to figure out whats going to happen with this. Those with the gear will blow other players away trying to scrounge for stuff while said geared players can hunt for what they want with minimal casualties. It really depends on how deep and advanced the gun tree and equipment goes as to how bad this will turn out in the long run.

How is the number of players relevant ?

This is a measure to prevent weapon duping and keep rare weapons rare.

Again how is this a bad thing.

100 of anything across MILLIONS OF PLAYERS? how does that make any sense? that means hundreds of thousands, if not MILLIONS, will never get to test out all the gear! thats ridiculous! if they are serious about this, private servers are the only hope we have left.

Not to sound like a complete asshole, but DayZ is going to suck.

Okay, I'll admit, that made me sound like a complete asshole.

It won't prevent weapon duping. That is another topic. In fact, a global loot system just gives an overwhelming advantage to cheaters using ESP hacks (which are hard to detect).

It would kind be cool if zombie spawn rate was tied to the amount of rare items on a server, though. Clans that stockpiled a huge amount of weaponry would have to defend their base from a larger amount of zombies. This way players could tell if a server had a lot of rare loot.

Iv seen loot trying to be controlled in the past by previous games. Trust me a group of well armed and geared players will own a server regardless of what happens. No ones going to want to go around areas that are clan controlled in those fashions trying to just get a gun or some clothing.

Once again how is this a bad thing ?

For something to be extremely rare this would be a requirement no ?

Would you rather not have a system in place where there is a wide variety of loot and in some cases you never come across all of it a game where every time you play you might get lucky and finally see a rare item you always wish you wanted.

Making certain things almost unattainable is a great concept.

Hall wants players to hear rumours that a particular player on a particular server has found some of this specialist gear, which could lead to a kind of lore and reputation building up around such servers.

I laughed so hard when I read this part. What stops the guy who finds a NVGs to play on different servers?

Its not a great concept.... why should some dipshit have everything so no one else can? everyone deserves a chance. As was said earlier, whats to stop someone from just filling up on rares and logging forever? What then?

The idea of trying to moderate loot economy is not bad in itself. It's the implementation of the whole hive architecture in the first place that gave birth to common problems and now requires said measures to alleviate them.

Server hopping, requirements for tedious loot management systems, which in turn lead to metagaming... This is all what comes with the "hives" - a perfectly unneeded implementation.

[EDIT]

I'm becoming a bit too passionate about this issue, as with the introduction of private servers it will no longer affect me in any way. I'm just a bit afraid that private servers will suffer in quality in comparison to official servers, which no doubt will be run on a public hive, with several servers sharing it.

The way I see it is they will solve server hopping and all of the other problems separately. They can't simply abandon an intriquate and meaningful game mechanic like finite resources just because some asshats decide to server hop for loot.

Because of luck and chance. If he is there at the right time at the right places then he gets the goods. Also ask yourself this why would anyone fill up on rares and log off forever why would that make sense for anyone to do.

Also how would they seemingly fill up on rares if they are rare to begin with. The chances for someone to even find a rare finite weapon or attachment is already low combine that with the even lower chance that the person wants the item to then log off ?  That honestly to me is a very unlikely fear.

Server hopping is a huge problem and given time it will be eliminated atleast that is what I hope.

If not private hives will thrive and hopefully they have their own loot management system. I would assume loot management in private hives is not unlike Rust where you can determine the drop rates of items and eliminate some all together.

someone would so that because if there are only 100 for millions, then you know one out of those millions would pay money to have an edge.

Then let them I still fail to see how its a problem.

The fact that so few people will have the chance to enjoy the game to the fullest. that is the issue.

What would be the bloody point of rare items that everyone has access to.

You though server hopping was bad now, just wait.

That and you will see SVD's up on Ebay. It will be legal cause they would be selling there time not the item that comes free when paying for there time/service...

You want rarity? You will only find it on a private server with drop %. Being locked to a single server would solve these problems and many more that have been covered already by other commenter's.

But, sadly as Rockett has stated many times before. He's all about the server hopping...

Private hives will fix alot of the problems but this new system with finite resources is a huge step up.

It potentially means a heavy restriction on firearms and ammo if done correctly. We might be seeing a day when finding even a lowly sporter is a happy occasion and a reason to celebrate.

Of all of the proposed future features this systems ability to control the global loot system has the most promise and potential.

Sure the band-wagoners who only want to spawn in and pvp will have a harder time finding weapons but at the end of that day thats fine.

I used to hate this idea. Then I realised that even if a player hopped for days to get a rare piece of gear, its unlikely that he would ever find it. Also, even if a player found, say, NVGs, and no one else could because the item limit had been reached; eventually, one of them will die, probably violently, probably ruining the item, and having it placed back into the loot table. I think the implementation wont feel much different then having a rare chance to spawn every time a spawn location respawns items, except that not everyone will have said item. It also makes private loot farms mostly useless.

ITT: we get angry and argue about a mechanic that we haven't tried yet.

Yes, it could be fucked - it could also be amazing, just stfu till you've given it a go, thanks. If it's not good, there are always private hives, which are on their way.

The rarity of certain items is part of the enjoyment.

From the perspective of someone with years of MMO experience this just isn't true. MMO's have the most insanely rare loot and it removes all fun from the game. Players become fueled by an addiction where their sole reason for playing is to find their precious and once they do they loose purpose and quit. The fact that unlike MMO's gear does not persist through death in DayZ will make this much worse.

If you haven't played a game that has really rare (and by really rare I mean spending hours a day, everyday, for months of your life camping a boss to ensure you are the ONLY person to kill it to get the 0.01% chance the loot might drop) then you don't understand. Enjoyment comes using good gear. It doesn't come from living in fear of loosing something you worked so hard for and will never have again. The negative psychological impact this change could cause is huge.
