Actual Super Market

Recommended Posts

Would anyone else be interested in one of those northern development areas become a mall? Or a decently sized super market? The markets are nice at the moment but they're more like bodegas. I must admit, I've never been to that part of the world and I've got no idea whether they have things equivalent to costco or Walmart or large malls but I think a huge indoor play space could be really different and really cool.

What do you guys think?

Massive malls are already a rare thing in Germany and its fairly high density. I doubt something like this would be a part of Chernarus.

How about a store about maybe 3-4 times the size of the current shops? With a decent sized parking lot and some junked out cars. I think it would make for some interesting encounters and would be a definite source for food and batteries, etc.

I don't think we need Walmart in good 'ole Chernarus.

I am more excited about castle prison building and I hope we will get some kind of NATO outpost with specific buildings & tents.

I can only think of two, maybe three, in the entire city and I wouldn't consider that "everywhere" when there are 2 million people living here.

It depends on how you define mall, I guess. But you won't find any outside the cities and most certainly not in low density rural ares like Chernarus.

There are no Walmart-like shops in europe. Just few malls in the west, let alone the east. We have shopping centres instead of malls, but even those are rare in eastern europe, I believe. What I can see is some sort of market. Even here, in a little town in Holland we have a market every friday. In eastern europe it ought to be the same

Yeah, not entirely sure that it's necessary. But wouldn't be opposed to it.

I mean, when I lived in the UK, there sure as hell were supermarkets. Granted, Chernarus isn't the UK, but the markets in DayZ are pretty rinky-dink. I think they could use a modest revamp.

Maybe in a new map of an american city.

American city? No, thanks. I like my Chernorussian style of cities/maps.

I understand that for someone who lived his whole life in 1st world country that never had Communism it will be hard to imagine that but those supermarkets that you see in DayZ are how real life supermarkets looked like in 80's under Communism and to late 90's in post Communism countries,

Oh come one.  If we're gonna get high tech weaponry having modern malls and buildings isn't far fetched

High tech? Is an AKM high tech? That's fifty years behind current standards. The M4's and FNX's are here because of UN intervention. I doubt they brought shopping malls with them either.

You haven't been reading the threads on what weapons people are wanting have you?  Plus my the little emote at the end of my sentence was for "sarcasm"

More interesting would be to see a mine of some sorts with tunnels and different levels, maybe a large prison camp. That would be more in the style of Chernarus.

While a mall or shopping center would be interesting from a purely zombie survival view of things (zombie movies set in malls are just great), it would probably be unrealistic for the setting. But one supermarket and some department stores wouldn't be unrealistic in the bigger towns like Cherno and Novo.

After all we are talking about several decades since the end of the Soviet Union, and since it seems every other home in Chernarus does contain a tv and a computer, they would probably have bought that stuff somewhere locally.

Actually, Chernarus is a pro-western democracy.

I like the idea of a mine a lot too, thanks xpD1. I guess I'm just interested in a large, indoor area. The apartments are cool but much more vertical than spread out so most combat is on the stairs. What about a large civilian airport? Or a sewer system in novo! That would be so cool!

I've been to big cities like Prague and Budapest that had a number of decent sized malls; even Bratislava had one IIRC.  Department stores (rather than full-on malls) are certainly not out of the question (in places like Cherno and Novo)

The REAL issue is that there's no decent train stations anywhere.  ALL of Europe, including Eastern Europe, have large train stations in even medium sized cities.  In many destinations, the train stations are among the nicest, most well-appointed, well-stocked structures/complexes in town. Most have several stores attached, plus cafés, convenience or grocery stores, police offices, news stands, etc. I know most of Chenarus is pretty depressed, but cities the size of Cherno would at least have a half-decent station with shops and police.

Prague, Budapest and Bratislava are all cities much much larger than anyone currently on the map. The area we are playing in is obviously a rural backwater of the country. There could perhaps be a larger regional station in one of the towns, but it seems unlikely to be an entire complex with grocery stores and such.

Same goes for a major civilian airport. While again from a gaming perspective it would be an interesting setting, it does seem unrealistic for anything but a small terminal with a parking lot to be set there.
