Bad Company 140 Posted August 22, 2014 I find it amazing just how brittle the clothing in the game is at the moment. First-grade pristine military-clothing designed for the russian Spetznaz-forces should not be turned to shreds by someone slapping, nor would I say that the solid-steel can-opener that I keep inside a military-grade protector case would disintegrate because I happened to fall over and scuff my knee. St. Jimmy 1631 Posted August 22, 2014 (edited) I hate that it gets ruined so quickly. Maybe bad luck but my jacket has ALWAYS got ruined by one zombie slap. You need to fell of couple of times from a bike to get a leather jacket in that condition. Edited August 22, 2014 by St. Jimmy
pillock 850 Posted August 22, 2014 Clothes in general should be more resistant to damage when worn. There is no way you would completely ruin a shirt by making a bullet hole into it. Sorry, but if any of my clothes had fucking bullet holes in them, I'd consider them to be ruined. That said, a ruined clothing item is rags - by definition. I don't see why we can't use a "ruined" shirt to make useable rags. And we need to be able to make rags out of a bigger variety of clothes.
Whyherro123 2283 Posted August 22, 2014 I saw some folks cleaning revolvers for sure, is it really doing nothing? O_oBut yeah I understand that simpler mechanisms are less prone to jamming, hence I would go with AK :-). Yes, cleaning ALL firearms, even revolvers, is important to remove the caustic chemical residues left from gunpowder. But, a revolver (and a double barrel shotgun, for the same reason) CANNOT jam, due to the mechanism. It can squib, or have a round jam in the barrel, but it won't jam. And, AK-platform rifles can totally jam. They require just as much maintenance as other weapons, don't let pop fiction tell you otherwise.
Xbow 362 Posted August 22, 2014 Riders jacket get torn pretty fast, but our rifles taking hits from bullets are still pristine :).Can't wait for once we need to take care of our weapons, cleaning and repairing them, or they would jam.Would bring in a lot of immersion.I think it would be swell if we could strip the critical parts out of a rifle and create a rifle repair kit that can bring a broken rifle back up to speed. So if you have an AK101 and an AK101 repair kit that consists of the bolt, trigger group, bolt carrier & gas piston etc dropping that kit on the rifle you want to repair brings the rifle up to worn, eats the whole of the repair kit, and dropping a cleaning kit on the weapon brings it up to pristine again. And when someone finds the rifle you have cannibalized at first there will be rejoicing followed by depression when they read "This rifle has been stripped" ;) And I think reinforcing any garment with duct tape and leather should give it some additional durability against any form of attack especially Zeds.
ebrim 998 Posted August 22, 2014 The only time I've used a weapon repair kit was when a zombie hit me and I had a sidearm in a wool coat that got ruined. The sidearm was only damaged, good news is that they work. As for zombie damage I just don't take the animation too literally, I imagine they're tearing at you, hitting and biting. At least that's how I justify my catalogue of ruined clothes. I do agree that not everything should be as fragile as a T-shirt though.
LimeMobber 47 Posted August 22, 2014 I always kind of assumed that zombies hit so hard because part of being a zombie includes their adrenal gland going nuts when they see and attack a human.
igor-vk 909 Posted August 22, 2014 I've had a zed tear a pristine riders jacket to ruined in one shot.Like 8 times. Not one riders jacket lasts more than 25 minutes. But wool coat can survive for days.
Schweinsteiger 107 Posted August 23, 2014 I have no idea how a zombie (essentially, little more than a pissed-off human) can take a swipe (not even grabbing and trying to tear, just a punch) at your torso and wreck all of your clothing. It is unrealistic and it is stupid.Actually, you're a bit off on the zombies. They use the most primitive part of the brain, strictly the survival mode, and once they're aggro they should be stronger then humans and much more savage. So, realistically speaking (Zombie apocalypse next Tuesday don't you know!) they should be able to bite through leather...eventually. The key word is eventually. The Rider's jacket should definitely last longer then cloth or synthetic materials. I've found one pristine rider's jacket, one worn and a few badly damaged. The real problem is they take damage like they were made of paper and we can't use the sewing kit to fix them up.
