Yes you can it just requires effort on the part of the development team to make things work right and enjoyable for everyone lol.

If you're gaining artificial XP, it's not a simulator anymore. Not trying to say that DayZ is a simulator or an RPG, because it's neither. It's just an open-world, sandbox, survival game.

You can run around and scream "ITS NOT A SURVIVAL GAME! ITS TOO EASY", but the element of difficulty is not the determining factor here. The fact that you are stranded in a world with relatively few other people, where there's no questlines, and you have to scavenge for food, water, and medicine, and the only goal is to stay alive, it's a survival game.

I'll agree that it's pretty easy to come across all of DayZ's basic necessities and people often combat each other rather than engaging in the stereotypical "survival elements", but because those elements are still the basis of the game, it's a survival game. You might never use the basement in your house, but it's still a part of the foundation, whether you like to think it is or not.

Well, I'm not a huge fan of acquired skills or "experience" in DayZ (although, hey, willing to try it out... they tried out the "humanity" system after all, right?)...

But I think we can put to bed the connotation of DayZ as a so-called "simulator."

It just isn't, and never was. Even in the loosest sense of the word, and if we use that loose usage... all games become simulators.

Yeah, in that sense, every game is "simulating unreality".

But even the devs haven't called DayZ a simulator, nor have they called Arma. Sure, both have many realistic elements, but they aren't actually replicating reality, or making an attempt to.

Something like VBS2 would be more in-line with a simulator, as it was made with the intention of training military troops or private companies in dealing with combat situations, rather than just playing huge sandbox battles with 250 jets vs another 250 jets, or running around fishing boots out of a pond and blasting people in the face with an IZH-43.

Right now there is no survival in the game, and when they add tents it will get even worse

Not to mention nvgs.

Yea I am hoping they abandon the nvg and never implement it into the game.

I can see there being far better game experiences when defending a base or trying to illuminate an area using a flare gun or flares.

I can imagine how tense it would be to be a player attacking a base in the middle of the night only to have the base sort of see you and then launch a flare up in the air illuminating the area around you.

NVGs sort of destroy that.

This is the same reason I never want to see thermal optics or any super high end weaponry it destroys alot of what dayz could be.

Sorry, Irish, but I gotta call you out on this one. :u

Barret 50 Cals aren't super overpowered godly weapons that allow players to magically kill everyone on the map with little to no skill. Its a large caliber weapon that is semi-automatic, and the only advantage to the round is that can penetrate shit, hit people really hard, and can take down armored vehicles.

With realistic sniping mechanics including wind, drop, and other cool ballistic stuff, along with an intense rarity surrounding the weapon, there would not be a problem. It would take skill to use the thing and wouldn't be practical at all due to the rarity of the caliber.

Plus, if it was up to me, it wouldn't matter what round your sniper rifle or rifle was chambered in. If you hit somebody in the gut, or the legs, they're going down. Not unconcious, unless they're really low on health / blood, but down. Kinetic Knockdown is a factor only like 0.1% of games account for. No one seems to realize bullets will stumble you, push you around, and put you on the damn ground- Plate or vest or not, its going to knock you around.

If they added all the mechanics for long range shots using a .50cal/12,7mm then there will be a lot of people getting upset with it, windspeed and direction, temp, hot or cold bore shot, elevation, outside temp, ammo temp, weather conditions, correct ranging, ballistics etc etc....well then you'd only get the really dedicated shooters going for it as others would drop it after attempting their first long range shot lol.

I don't see any issue with the NVGs.

They'll be very rare, and Rocket indicated that NVGs specifically would be on the list of regulated loot.

I doubt they'll be easy to maintain either. Plus, they'll probably get destroyed if you kill someone with them... limiting the transmittal of said gear.

Flares and fires for 90% of the folk, NVGs for the 10% lucky folk. Seems decent enough on both ends.

Thermal (i.e. the highlighting ONLY of targets in day/night) is a whole different animal completely, and should never be mentioned in the same breath as NVGs (i.e. the highlighting of EVERYTHING only during the night).

I always just assume with them being in the game they open the flood gates for duping.

I just envision that once they get the new render system up and perhaps have a night in dayz that looks as good if not better than arma 3 having nvgs could potentially ruin that.

Imagine that with nvgs so much of the atmosphere and allure is gone.

Well, I can't really see any logic in not including something... based solely on the premise that it might be exploited.

Fix duping, don't limit what you can add into the game because of it.

No, the atmosphere and "allure" is still there for the 90% of the time that you don't have NVGs. It doesn't magically go away.

They kinda did. It's not - but they did.

Huh, apparently they are divided on it, marketing-wise. But regardless, DayZ isn't intended as a simulator. I don't get the whole "anti-game" term because of that. I mean, sure, there's no stated objective, but the whole idea is that people create their own objectives. That's still a game to me.

That's the point.

Sniping has to be hard.

btw I owe $20 to some fuck's sister's wedding.

Yup how is that a bad thing ?

Precision long range shooting is an extremely hard skill one that in real life take years upon years to master.

Making even 500m shots in game should require some skill as it currently stands sniping in standalone is unacceptably easy and it is one area of the game that should never ever be accessible.

People need to struggle and dedicate time to learn it. This is why I think a Sniping method such as the ACE mod is vital to making dayz a better game.

A 5 year should should not be able to jump into dayz never having played the game and kill people at 300 m with a sniper rifle without having received any instruction on how to.

Thats my point exactly LR shooting should not be easy at all in fact anything over 300m (effective combat range of most assaut rifles) should be made complicated hence my previous comment concerning the addition of certain factors enabling a shot. Most people would more than likely give up after a short period of time after seeing how complicated it is and lacking patience to learn. You'd only get the patient, dedicated players using them then and they would be a real threat with such a weapon especially if they add a x12 scope with drop markers etc.

PR9INICHEK is a russian (?) modder, as far as I can tell from looking around the web

hope he will excuse me if he is some other nationality

he is not associated with BI

(I found him on dayzrussia.com and other places)

but interesting stuff, for sure.. I LIKE the rabbit snares

we should try to get BI interested in these, if they aren't already

the One Slot Teddybear is kind of cute too

nice thread
