My plea to remove military gear

With the current guns in game there really isn't that much of an advantage for players carrying "military gear". The mosin, blaze and the SKS are all great guns, and if you are just a relatively experienced player, you will not be at any particular disadvantage against m4s or akms (except at very close range).

 

It will be a whole different ball game if/when they add military sniper rifles, lmgs, nv goggles and all that kind of crap, though.

And more ammo makes you more dangerous -> excessive ammunition is provocating people to shoot on sight even more. (in my mind atleast). I have nothing against assault rifles per se, as long as there are not much ammunition for them.. but if ammo for assault rifles would be super rare, then the whole gun is rather useless. There's another statement to be made too on my behalf: I find it extremely boring to see military uniforms, helmets and guns. I'd love an apocalyptic feeling with the sense people really wear what they have found, rather than masturbating how cool would they look on military uniform. Hey that's maybe just me...

Loot, and especially ammo, is indeed spawning in over abundance, but I am sure it is for testing purposes (gunplay and all that follows from it can't be properly tested without ammo). Loot will be balanced, but only in a much later stage in the game. I do expect them to decrease ammo loot spawning a lot by then (and everything else, including food).

 

And of course with the new incoming stable you won't find 5.56 in large quantities anymore. It still spawns at military loot places, but it was the abundance of m4 mags which was the main problem. Now m4s and mags will only be found at heli crash sites, and instead the akm will be the main military gun. And in my experience they have already drastically lowered the loot spawn of akm mags as compared to the m4 mag spawns. Even with frequent trips to unlooted Balota military camp in exp I only ever found 2 30 round mags during my many lives spent in 0.45.

but AK's , Mosins, 7mm ammo is everywhere, I agree with OP reduce everything drastically ASAP and add more crossbows.

+ NON lethal weaponary... tazers, stun gun, more melee options, power tools, katana's etc

No sir, you're wrong - you just never thought about going NORTH instead of staying on the coast. You can't blame the DEVS because you're dying in berezino and elektro all the time!

 

P.S: There isn't a single supergun in this game. Each gun has it's advantages and disadvantages. Starting with the M4, which if it lacks of MP parts it's super didily-do inaccurate.

The amounts of time I met friends (and foes) in dayz without killing each other is probably more than I ever died (and I died... especially by staircases).

 

In most of the servers player wants interaction! Meeting new people, trolling, strip down naked and make weird noises. If you put all of these into PvP you have no idea what dayz is about.

You are missing the point. First of all, as of now, this is the game's nature: Lots of ammo and lots of M4's lying around, not much else to do, i totally understand people are playing ARMA DM rather than DayZ. Change the nature of the game by guns that are slow to use. slow fire rate and ammunition should be more rare. I think some sort of DM should always be on the game, but i'd prefer an apocalyptic DM rather than Arma DM. 

 

Yes, i do want to kill M4 guys on sight, but that is just my one man protest against mil-gear + as i said i love a good gunfight. If you gear up so hostile, why shouldn't i have right to shoot you? And to be perfectly clear. I LIKE the fact you are allowed to do what you want. If you want to kill freshspawns on sight, then do so,  you are free to do so, although i find that extremely against the spirit of the game and only as something what 12yo kid with ego-problems would do.

OP, you're making a false distinction between military and civilian gear. Sometimes there isn't a difference. For example, in the U.S you can own NFA firearms with proper licensing in the right state, body armor, helmets, and all of other crap you listed. Military specification is sometimes literally the best bang for buck contract the military could get.

I don't know if you've been following any world news recently.. but if you see a guy dressed in a certain way, he's "military" - you haven't spotted that?

and in fact they are REALLY easy to spot. They are called "soldiers"

And everywhere I've been, in the mountains, on the beach, in town, wherever you care to name, I've NEVER seen anyone dressed in a steel hat, body armor, boots, camo, bergen, and automatic rifle who was NOT military.

maybe they are students going down to the bar for a beer ?

they are firemen ?

You forgot about the airsoft players too! No real firearms there, but the rest of the gear is.

For from it. Having rare kick ass weapon will probably make you a bigger target. For one, people will want that gun and two, you become the biggest threat, therefore, need removing.

 

Just like when dean (I think it was) talked about getting a very rare night vision goggle (not in game yet). That you better watch out, as your a prized target (Not his word, just the jist)

I guess your right about their being lots of ammo for testing. but there is more ammo than pens or batteries. Cus of this, others parts of the game cant get tested as you have to DM all the time. I see the screen shots of backpack filled with ammo/guns and no food and no tools. as all that is getting tested is guns. (too much food as well lol)

I think the dm is only a problem in certain parts of the map, you have the whole rest of it to test everything out with no worry of ever meeting other players. Some people clearly only play this to dm, that's fine, more exploring for the rest of us.

I am a very very cautious player (always running in zigzags and direcdtional changes) who runs all over the map and avoids military based (Unless i get lost, then i turn and run) But most the time, if i happen across a player, they shoot at me. and i don't go around with a weapon out, not dress in mill gear, and until i found the SKS was good for hunting (exp), i would only have a sawn off shot gun in my bag, so i didn't look armed.

 

added: and as i very rarely go to military bases or big town, still surprised at the ammo i can find. Fully expect to get killed in bases and big towns

 

 

\/ i don't count these as dm style kills, personal research an knew i would die \/

even though it was silly to sit in a not so safe area (not run an sit, but pick a place sit and wait for a while),  was a test. Funny how many players shoot you thinking your logging out and wont notice lol

good to see you had a lot of valuable input to add to this topic (no wonder your post count is so high)

 

But also... if powerful and good item where rare. imagine the good feeling you get from finding it, and owning it. No longer is it something you can get in 10 mins, but a special item worth keeping alive for. real rare loot would rock, people that have it feel special (some are already speical people, if you know what i mean :P) and others would have a goal of obtaining such items.

 

 

Added: at the moment, everyone can get best kit as long as they have some basic skills. just so much of it.

Well, the reason my post count is so high... is that I've spent my entire two years of posting combatting the silly supposition that DayZ needs to cut back on "military" gear.

 

I was short, because I've already contributed far more input to threads just like this one... that I wanted to express the futility of it.

and I know I was assay with you, but these thread will pop up again and again, even with search function used, cuss people need to vent (Hope they don't crack down on that to much, best way to gauge public). i find it better to just join in or, if i have seen it to many times, i ignore it :P
