More civillian clothing.. Less military

Recommended Posts

Yeah military clothing should be as rare as the M4's are now in experimental, why would it all be laying around anyway? Fair enough some guns maybe a soldier died and dropped it but what zombies strip people naked before eating them?

They'd never leave all their clothes in the barracks either they'd be mobilized right away with all their gear barely anything useful would be left except personal items, so it doesn't make much sense.

As long as it's not like all brightly coloured stuff more civilian clothing should definitely be added, less emphasis should be put on it being a war game zombies don't give a damn about camo they see you from miles away no matter what you wear, so it should matter less whether or not you have camo stuff.

I solely wear military clothing because it holds more gear. The actual only reason. I wish there were some civilian clothing which holds as much as the best set of military clothing does. I love to wear civ clothing, but the restriction of carrying gear just gets to me

How much gear could you possibly need?

I run t-shirt, jeans, a hunting backpack and thats it.

Carrying food is completely unneccessary once energized and hydrated tbh.

I hear ya.  I use 3 pp for screwing around on with testing and pvp.  Hardcore for actually playing the game but I definitely do not like not being able to see over my shoulder with a mountain pack or the down jacket.  I will stick with the taloon pack before picking up a mountain pack.  Are those the only two items that hinder the over the shoulder view?

I sense an RP fanboy here.  Stop trying to compare DayZ to what you think it would be like in a real survival situation. You more than likely have no idea what a real survival situation would require.

Here's a hint: most militaries train their men how to survive and their gear is tailored towards it. Rocket is prior mil, connect the dots.

I play with a fairly large group of guys; when we're all on we number 12+, so I take gear that has a lot of inventory space so that I can help them get re-equipped and resupplied should they die, or lose their gear, or whatever. The last time we were all playing on HC, I had to ditch my mountain backpack when I came under fire because I didn't need a bright red target on my back in the middle of the woods. Once the firefight was over, I was alive, but couldn't get back to my pack before the server restarted on us, so I spawned in next time without a can opener, any form of hydration container, most of my food, all but 2 mags of ammo for my M4 (a nearly empty 60 rounder and a half empty 30 rounder), medkit, my supply case, a compass, binoculars, etc., all because the server took a shit, and persistent items aren't in the game yet. I use large capacity gear so that if something like that happened to one of the guys in my group, he wouldn't be completely boned, since I could give him a spare can opener, or a spare compass, or canteen, or mag/ammo for his weapon, or hell, even a weapon. I usually try to keep a magnum with a speed loader and a box of ammo in my backpack (if I have a mountain backpack) so that one of the guys I trust to watch my back in this game isn't boned when he joins.

I concur. If military clothing would become rare, we'd see more partially camouflaged players. Kind of like a rag-tag guerrilla look, which fits an apocalypse perfectly.

Intentionally obtuse, or reading comprehension fail, the end result is the same.

Two military airfields and two military installations in a 250km square area, the end result is if almost everyone dies, survivors are going to find plenty of military loot.

More than that.

Tent cities at Balota and NEAF. Bases in Zelengorsk and Vybor, plus a couple other places, and then of course the air fields themselves, with the ATCs, Hangars, and Fire stations, all of which spawn military grade items. And that's just in Stable. Throw in Helicopter crashes in Experimental and you now have military loot spawning all over the place.

But pristine? No, if military guys all got killed their stuff would be ripped apart other than guns.

Yeah, pretty much. I've got some milsurp Forest BDU's in my closet that I use when I go camping. The whole ensemble consists of a shirt-jacket (with 4 pockets), trousers (with 6 pockets), boots, and a web belt, on which I can carry about 3 MOLLE-compatible pouches. All of these articles of clothing put together can carry about 3 days worth of gear comfortably.

Better yet, it is somewhat water-resistant, tear-resistant, comfortable, and can hide me almost anywhere (it breaks up your outline, which is far more important in camouflage than simple coloration)

Why would I wear anything else?

You might want to throw some safety orange in there so the hunters don't mistake you for a moose.

I think we need more dusters, capes, cowls, masks, character customization, swords, etc. More civilian clothes sound good. I just think what i listed would be better. :P

They get their new stuff from somewhere. We go by "two is one, one is one" in the mil. So those barracks more than likely will contain new shit.

I look forward to being able to loot some Damaged, Badly Damaged or occasionally Worn gear from military zombies.

What kinds of swords would you find? Maybe some sort of officer's sword, but I highly doubt you'll be finding katanas, claymores, longswords, sabres, or really anything else on the map save for a museum (which would be very interesting; having unique weapons that only spawn at a museum). They could expand on knives, although we already have a kitchen knife, combat knife, M9A1 bayonet, M91 bayonet, and SKS bayonet. I'd like more improvised melee weapons like broken 2x4s/chair legs, pots & pans, broken bottles, etc. Makeshift weapons that are easy to find/make but aren't all that useful in longterm survival.

Nah, I'm good. Bring on the "military" gear por favor. "Civilian" gear as well! Never thought it was necessary (or even possible in most cases) to discriminate.

And I never paid any mind to the "Oh, he/she looks like a bandit because he/she is wearing "military" gear" bit. Some yahoo with a smiley face t-shirt is every bit as likely to grease you as a guy with a plate carrier.

Either way, in a real apocalypse, you'd probably wear whatever you wear on normal days.

Uhh wrong. I'd wear whatever gave me the best chances to survive. If I had heavy duty camouflaged clothing with lots of pockets and I was living in the woods you can bet your ass I'd wear it over the Mushroomhead tee I'm currently sporting. I'd want to blend in and be prepared.

Everyone seems to equate "survivor" with handicapping themselves. You don't survive that way.

We don't get Moose all that much in Massachusetts, my Troop goes camping on private BSA property (where personal firearms aren't allowed), and if we go outside the boundary line, I wear blaze orange anyways.

I usually only wear the trousers, as the jacket gets rather hot after a while.

I think people just want their apocalypse situation to be filled with people wearing two month old, tattered hoodies as they fire off their guns sideways because of how untrained they are, all while somehow surviving, day after day, week after week.

In reality, you'd go with whatever was most effective. Most people would learn that firing their guns sideways is not effective. Hopefully.

add a flag/banner/peace of cloth or something you could put to your rifle with rope crafting a flag. so the rifle is the flagpole. Maybe only possible if you got a bayonet.

Would look cool both for when its on your back, and when you have it in your hands.

Yeah...if you could find it.

In reality military bases would be locked up or still guarded because zombies wouldn't just kill the armies if some random guy with a machete can take on 4 at once so could the army...

In any case though they wouldn't just leave weapon storage places wide open nor places with their gear.

And random survivors couldn't just effectively wear military gear like they do in the game, assault vests especially are pretty damn heavy.

What you would find in reality is normal clothes but in DayZ military shit is everywhere.

I'd like to see the clothes being badly damaged when you find them, to the point where like a whole arm or leg is missing from them. Then you could find similar clothing and swap the leg over with a sewing kit, that would be cool at least getting geared up would be somewhat challenging.

Pristine military gear should be like the holy grail not standard.

Does not mean camouflage and vests and stuff are strictly military.

If you are a hunter, you'll have plenty of camo. It isn't like the army is the only one with the camo.

Why would hunters just leave it around? They're most likely to survive a zombie apocalypse without military help they'd just go away in to the wild and live.

My family is full of hunters and we have so many guns and camouflage it would be nearly impossible for us to take it all with us... We have more then a truckload of guns and a shitload of camouflage, we would have to leave it behind just because we have too much.

That's why stumbling upon my Uncle's house in the apocalypse would be a godsend. Even though a good amount of the stuff would be gone, namely ammunition, you would still find a shitload of guns. We would not be able to take all of them with us to the woods.

The AR-15 would be coming, though, thats for sure. :D

I mean, it's not like when the apocalypse happens... somebody goes around ripping up clothes for giggles. Or somebody goes around opening gun safes, only to beat their weapons senseless.

If an apocalyptic cataclysm like an outbreak of "zombie infection" happened, I'd put my money on a lot of shit being left behind.

If anything, there'd be tons of pristine clothing left behind in drawers and closets, as it's not really an essential item. Taking your entire wardrobe with you isn't necessarily the first thing on most folk's mind.

And the fact that the outbreak left no folks other than "survivors" meaning, players, I think we can assume that military bases are unguarded for the purposes of DayZ...

Military gear is a facet of DayZ, and always has been. It's always been a feature, even an emphasis. I want it to stay that way. Doesn't mean civilian clothes shouldn't be in-game, or shouldn't be commonplace. But jesus, I'll never understand all the hatred surrounding military gear and so-called "tacticool" items. I mean, for god's sake, they're neutral inanimate items they didn't beat up your mother.
