Should walkie talkies have text chat?

  1. 1. Should walkies have text chat?

Recommended Posts

While on reddit I asked hicks whether the walkies range would be increased to which I was told yes, up to 30 km range. Hicks motioned that this is to be the new "side chat" system. My question to you is should the walkies have the ability to use text over radio type chat system?

I hope this is added. People are in situations where using a microphone is inconvient, and having a way to communicate with them and a way for them to communicate with others is fantastic. I hope text over radio chat gets added in. I would like to also see the situations in the mod text chat caused in standalone.

Well, perhaps there should be two items - the walkie-talkie we've got now, and another (rarer) item which allows for text and voice communications.

But, in lieu of that, yes, walkie-talkies should replace side-chat. But, the frequencies should themselves be chat channels, so there should never be ONE text channel like side-chat.

One thing I always disliked about DayZ Mod was the side-chat. It sounds like too much work for an unnecessary gimmick. It's a walkie-talkie, like someone has already so eloquently put it. If you don't have a mic, that's your problem. If you were deaf, you wouldn't be able to use a walkie-talkie either, now would you?

I voted for yes as Dayz is lonely and sometimes I don't want to plug my mic in.

They could just call them walkie-texties. Problem solved. :P

Why should we be forced to buy mics? I don't want to actually converse with strangers I'm autistic, text chat would be great with these.

NO.

- You already have text chat (with same range as direct voice chat).

- Are you eager to be constantly spammed with childish chitchats & smiley ? It ruin immersion.

- 2-meter band Walkie talkie are not Short Message Service GSM.

What next? a pool for bandit/hero skin - because dayz mod >:(

why should we have to choose, both are doable. being you don't have to use them if you don't want to. u can if you want to. i also think that the current text system should be replaced with this.

Don't get why people are acting like the spam isn't already bad over radios, people scream into their mics and do plenty of things to break the immersion.

I say yes. It's better than having permanently enabled voice chat, that's for sure.

They already have textchat. Pick up a Radio, put in a battery, use ->   ,   <--- to switch from direct communication to your radio frequency. Type a message like usually.

Also, we have diffrent frequencies. And not every kiddie walks around with a Radio, so don't worry guys (who are concerned about sidechat spam). It wont be too bad, but its the best way to not kill on sight probably. because you can communicate from range.

Sometimes I did not want to shoot someone, but since he was 200 meters away and getting close was too dangerous, I had to. Now maybe more people will carry the radios around and maybe I can talk to those guys then.

It already has this, as said above.

I really don't mean to be a dick, but, why not actually try things out in game before commenting on them? =P

I say  yes.

Some people might not use mic for out of game reasons.

at least, give them a text channel etc.

No reason to name call, but if you don't understand the current features of the 'walkie-talkie', how can you even reply to this thread?

Anywho, I play this game, sitting on a couch for about 60 min each night, while my kids watch Full House. I choose not to use my mic during this time. It is, and should continue to be, optional. Having the radios with a 30KM text/talk range is a great thing, that won't break immersion. I'm guessing we just leave it on the default channel and it will work almost like a global chat. If you don't wanna do it, switch channels or don't pick up the device.

Maybe it's a sociological problem.

Most of kids and even young adults cannot wait long time on a chair (waiting room, in bus or subway, etc) and not using their smartphone. Typing reading message, or just keep an eye on it.

They do that to pass time, to keep their minds busy, nothing wrong because nothing else more usefull or entertaining to do when you have to wait.
On a so-called "running simulator" you spend a lot of time to only run. The desire to make the game more alive to bring fun & social communications sounds legit.

But this is Chernarus : a post-apocalyptic world. There is no relay antenna, no internet, and no magic way to hail a stranger far away.
Quit your old geek-conservative habits for a while.

Yes

It is a game after all and those that do not have mics or cannot use one for whatever reason can still talk ingame because the character is not a mute.

Ya, like the kids won't troll radio channels with Chuck Norris spam.....  .  WoW is a prime example of why we don't need in-game chat.
