Death feedback

I think that considering we're at all broken alpha, it would be appropriate to be able to see why you died.

I was just looting an airfield building after about 4-6 hours of a single character run, not meeting a single player during that time. And suddenly, you are dead screen appears. No sound was heard, no threat was seen. I think that, considering the current state of the game, it would be fair to have a way of telling whether someone actually killed you or you just died to a bug. The feedback could have a very basic format, eg. "you bled out", "you were killed by a zombie", "you died of a gunshot wound" etc.

I know it breaks the immersion but so do random deaths at the moment.

Bullets travel faster than sound - you were more than likely sniped.

A slow motion killcam would be nice (espetialy when the ragdoll physics arrive). But because a lot of players play together and communicate via TS its not an option. It would just reveal the location of the shooter.

I too would like a killcam and instareplays. I would even like to see the last seconds of the noob I am sniping at the coast, so I can make hardcore videos about it with all of the dubstep.

But the black screen upon death is a bit lame. Now visualise your characters fully geared lifeless body drop in slow motion as the light fades... oh the sadness. 

Sorry if the word "killcam" brougth back visions of a hacker filled spray and pray game. Hell I dont eaven own a COD game. :D

still no. the black screen is the most realistic way to go, and the best. (in my opinion)

I wouldn't mind a fade to black as your character drops to the ground, but the insta-black screen is fine too. I like how abrupt it is. It just leaves you thinking "Shit...".

Yeah. From the realistic point of view you are right. Maybe some stats perhaps.(this was probably mentioned before)

- Alive for xx:xx:xx

- Zombies killed

- Distance traveled

...

In real life you wouldn't know what you were killed by, so I don't think that's very "authentic". You should be able to inspect and get a basic description of the wounds of dead survivors though IMO, that way at least your friends could figure out how you died later.

I think you guys are missing the point. I would maybe agree with Mos1ey if there was no option to die "just because the game decided you've lived for too long". It would be great if it worked vice versa, in such way that you'd get a black screen with "you are dead because of a random bug" but since I am assuming there is no way that this can be done, I'd rather trade the awesomeness of not knowing how I died for a certainty that I actually died because something killed me.

Besides, all authenticity went to hell the day people started communicating over teamspeak and voicechat remained enabled even when you died. When you're dead, you're gone anyway and you'll tell your friends exactly what happened, so why make this a gimmick. I agree that authenticity is mostly a great thing but this is still a game. Pretending that it isn't will not change it.

In addition to this, if you are shot in the head (or any place where death immediately follows), it would be nice to hear that little "blop" sound of a bullet cracking your skull.

Death is supposed to be permanent.  Why should you know what happened if you didn't see/hear it coming just before you died?

You people! It's a game! And it's in alpha! Zombies go through walls and can't climb stairs! People talk to each other while their dead bodies are clipping through a wooden fence! Wake up with your remarks about how death is permanent!

Yes and after I died I could still hear a bird singing all the way in Chernogorsk but the sniper was just so damn far away that his shot was unhearable. Damn the guy must've been camping a castle on Everon then!

In real i know what killed me, an axe, a knife a bullet a crash etc etc or at last WHAT wounds me ...

Why not instant black screen when you are shot to the head, and a few seconds of screaming in agony on the ground if you were shot/hit somewhere else? If you die of food poisoning, some blood-puking animation, if you were killed by a fall from a large height... well, you know you are dead before you even hit the ground, so that's a black screen.

I don't need to see why I died I pretty much like that scary black screen suddenly pop out. Only info as "You died of fall." or "You have been shot by other player" would not upset me but I don't want to see who killed me, because that makes me angry to that person and I don't think this game should be about hate and revenge. It's more about survival.

I completely disagree with those that think you wouldn't know how you died... but I also don't want to know _who_ killed me or _where_ they were hiding since that's incredibly unrealistic.  I just want to know _how_ I died.  A simple text message is more than enough for this.

 

You exsanguinated.

You starved to death.

You died of dehydration.

You drowned.

You burned to death.

You died of severe head trauma.

You died of severe chest trauma.

You died from an untreated infection.

 

None of these tells you exactly what happened, but it does tell you your method of death... so if you're walking along and you die for seemingly no reason, but it says you 'died of severe head trauma' you can assume you got shot or otherwise attacked.  If it says you 'starved to death' but you know your food indicator was on 'energized' and you were eating regularly then you might want to report the bug.

Seriously is this a joke or not? I don't get it. I have to point this out again because I can't believe a mod wrote this:

When you die, you still hear things around you for a few seconds. You can even talk while you are dead (Or at least those were conditions of the game in the time a started this thread). And with this in mind a moderator comes in and says the statement as seen above?
