The Night of Bad Luck.. aka, The Curse of the AKM

So, I had an incredible night of luck and great fortune.. I missed that exp. updated yesterday until oh around dinner time. I was just sitting around doing pretty much nothing, but I had no idea it had updated until late in the day. So I finally hop on, Im having a great time. FInd an AKM, some blue camo pants, and a guy looting Elektro. He seems like a Noob and is getting overrun by Zeds so I ask him if he needs help. He says, "Yes.. thanks man there are so many of them" and of course while Im trying to help him he attempts to shoot me in the back of the head. I call him on his non-sense and tell him, "Look, its experimental. If you want something I have, you can have all of it. I just want to do some exploring without being killed for no good reason, okay?" So says he did not mean to shoot at me, it was an accident. I know he is lying to I say, "Alright then.. I just wanted to make sure you know you dont have to kill me. There is literally no reason." As I walked up and crouched next to him. He then, well you know what he did..

 

So I spawn fresh near the new City NE of Svetlo.. So Im thinking, not so bad.. Im sort of glad he shot me. Then it happens. My internet goes to complete shit. Disconnects, router issues, my ISP has decided that Friday night around midnight is a great time to do some maintenance. So I deal with that for the next hour. No internet, internet. Back and forth. Im starting to get really aggravated. But as I am finally walking into the new village that is next to the new large city I see another player. He is armed, and well.. I am already figuring its my time to die. But he turns out to not be in the killing mood and I tell him about the new City that he knows none of and I take him there. We are having a good time, and just as we are arriving at the town square with clock tower my internet drops again, or the server restarts and the new friend is lost. 

 

Internet troubles abound, but this time its rubberbanding. I find a fix quickly, and start leaving buildings slowly to stop the teleporting back to where I was issue. It works, and I make my way all the way to the NWAF. By the time I get there I have geared up almost all the way I was looking to. I finally found all the items to make a fire, and cook. I was just going to make one pass through the NWAF and then go log out for the night. I am literally about 3 tents from being done, running up to Bashnya and logging out there when a kind gentlemen comes running full speed into my tent with guns up. I hear it, am prepared and as I aim up at the door and have an obvious drop on him.... I EFFING HIT MY MOUSE SIDE BUTTON THAT IS MAPPED AS ESCAPE. My quit screen comes up, freezing my player, and allowing me to watch my attacker shoot 47 rounds into my legs and torso. 

 

I mean.. what does a guy have to do to do some testing in Experimental? lol.. Each time I found the AKM, I was dead in minutes.

 

Im telling you, that thing is cursed.. CURSED! ;)

OH okay i was a bit worried there for most of the story. Today I killed a guy at the triangular military base SE of Vybor and found out the AKM is pretty much a beast. 2 shots center mass dropped him and 3 to check (one hit the dirt a few inches before him).

:(  Very bad luck indeed. I encountered about 10 players during my exp sessions yesterday. 2 of them tried to kill me, but I stopped them with words, they waved, and went back on their way. Weird experiences. Still, very interesting.

 

I hope you get to test it without any internet problems, or curses... ;)

Yeah, one. They seem to be insanely rare, so I am keeping it (until someone comes along and kills me for it).

Why on earth was your mouse side button mapped to ESC?

Because I use a Nostromo and prefer to not need my keyboard unless necessary.. as it is now the only time I need it is to talk, and I could even remap that button. But after last night Im rethinking the escape button. It works really, really well for normal PC use but for DayZ and not playing on a desk it is just horrible.. horrible. Im a fool. I know. ;)

 

Edit: Yes, I found 1 AKM mag in the tents at NWAF. 30 seconds later this story happened. :(

No. I never log.. it goes against my morals. 

 

And honestly there is no need to make comments like that. Assumptions suck, and that was a pretty big one.  :|

 

I have a Razor Mamba and my side buttons are ENTER and ESCAPE. This is a great setup for typical PC use, but when I play DayZ on my couch without the flat surface of a desk I will from time to time hit the side buttons on accident. It has nothing to do with logging, but everything to do with my peripheral setup (using Nostromo keypad and mouse, with little use of keyboard). I hope that explains it. No, Im not overly defensive to being called a c-logger. But I am offended whenever someone who does not know me assumes something negative about me as I strive to be a good person in my life through all things. Sometimes I fail, and I guess that is what makes me defensive. :D

I seem to suffer from lost sessions a lot in the experimental as well. Yesterday on the hardcore hive I just passed a freshspawn out in the wilderness. I was armed, we nodded and acknowledged each other and passed along our separate paths. Just as the other guy was out of sight over my shoulder I got "Session lost". I log in today on hardcore exp and no big surprise I am a freshspawn. Well played unknown freshspawn, well played.

 

Also for some reason when I quit the game in current experimental I get CTD every time.

Oh I had an AKM, PSO Scope, 5 magazines, loads of ammo, Autumn Gorka Pants, and other necessary stuff...then the session lost...then log back in butt naked except for the one book I was carrying..like thanks...alot.

It has nothing to do with a client. Every time you lose session, your server has be restarted for the sake of maintaining server performance and loot.

It seems to have done wonders for me.  I am looting the mil base and the server restarts, so I figure wow what good luck, then I find it, the HOLY GRAIL of magazines, the 75 Round Drum, WOO HOOO!!!.  I then hear shooting, oh shit, I duck, more shooting, close but NOT AT ME.  I bail, I mean I run for the nearest wood line and exit the base with two zeds on my ass, I nail them with auto fire from the AKM hoping it will spook the other shooters.  I didn't combat log, I just ran and ran and ran and no one chased me.  Didn't feel like hunting people in a base full of zeds and I guess they didn't feel like chasing an AK.   Finally time for dinner, so I hunker down in a pine tree and log, all nice and cozy till tomorrow!

Yea, the worst is having a good session to be run up on right as you decide to log out and die. Well, at least you have something to do when you re log!
