You do realize the damage they do is exactly the same right?

From my experience, the Fireaxe can take 1-3 head shots to kill a zombie, the machete is 1 shot every time. Can't argue with results.

Anybody try the SKS bayonet? You stab with it, so it should be pretty good...

I tried the m4 bayonet and it sucked.  I've used the mosin bayonet in the past and it was pretty decent but that was several patches ago.

 

The nice thing about bayonets however is that while attached to your gun you can take them straight into your hands, and when not in your hands they're still on the gun.  So you effectively get an extra melee weapon slot, without having to take up inventory space.

 

I've heard they do affect accuracy however, though not sure if true.

Machete definitely isn't 1-shot kill every time. From my testing, it seems machete sometimes 1-shots from behind, almost never from the front. Takes 2-4 from the front, fireaxe always takes 2.

The fireaxe takes only 1 hit to kill zombies when they are not aggro'd. But it takes atleast 2 hits to kill once the zombie has seen you.

Let's say they deal the same amount of damage, the machete is still easier to hit with.

It depends on the zombie and your luck really. I've 1 hit zombies in the head with fire axe, splitting axe, bat and even a punch. Sometimes it even takes 3 hits to the head with a fire axe to put them down.

 

The fire extinguisher and axes seem to be the most effective in my opinion.

Even if machetes were effective against zombie (they aren't) it's useless against players. You'll have to play like an Australian and follow your stab victim around for 5 minutes until they bleed out.

What? Last I checked, most melee weapons OHKO to the head. Especially the Axe. Lining up a head shot is hard enough with how clunky it is. So whatever takes the least hits to a body is the best. And I'm pretty sure that's the Fire Axe.

I used the Machete for quite some time because of its (in my opinion) easy use. During this period I also used a Splitting Axe, Pitchfork and Pickaxe but they felt too clumsy in comparison with not that much of a damage gain.

 

Then I found a Fireaxe. I feel its a little harder to use than the Machete but the higher damage is definitely worth it (fights are much shorter). Even feels a little op in the current build as there are so few zombies and they aren't smart either.
