Does anyone else think the backpack capacities are inaccurate?

Recommended Posts

When looking at my inventory it just seems that in real life all of those things would take up slightly less than or maybe half of the backpack.  Does anyone else agree?

Yeah, pretty much. I've got a milsup assault pack that is smaller than the in-game hunting backpack, and I can live out of all the gear I can fit in-and-on the bag for 3 days easily, while carrying my sleeping gear and other personal equipment....

I would like to see a hunting backpack that can fit 6 ballistic helmets in RL and still have space for more items.

It is a game, you can only go so far with the realism, the sooner you realise this, the sooner you'll stop being bothered by pointless details such as this one.

The backpacks need a complete overhaul the inventory should be weight and space based not just slot based.

Well, here's my point.  (Besides the zombies, I hope) this game is based off of realism.  Everything in this game attempts to be based off of real life, so shouldn't the backpack capacity be realistic, too?  I mean, if I make a post saying, "Hey, I just fell 5 feet off a ladder and died."  The first thing someone is going to say is, "It's meant to be realistic, and in real life that's a possibility."

You have to sacrifice realism for gameplay/balance sometimes and sometimes for the sake of not going into minuscule details. As I said before in another post, just because it is realistic it doesn't automatically mean it should be in the game. If we went by that logic this game would be in development for a decade.

I wouldn't mind more detail in inventory management, specifically weight being a factor and at the same I could care less if there wasn't an intricate system for inventory. What is really wrong with the current system however is, how items in your inventory negate damage to the point where it is just as good as, if not better, than wearing actual ballistic protection.

The amount of stuff you can carry in your pack and webbing is outrageous in real life (ask any grunt)
I can literally carry and wear so much stuff, that if it were in DayZ I would only need to fill it once a week. The way it is now ensures you constantly need to find food water and ammo, but I do agree you should be able to carry a bit more stuff than you can at the moment, perhaps a proper military pack and webbing combo would do the trick, but if you want realism then you have to understand you wouldn't be doing a lot of

sprinting / jogging / crouch walking with 50 or 60kgs of gear on, and you would have to take your pack off to get stuff out of it. Filling up 10 Litres of camelback bladders and water bottles takes a long time too, and I've never done it at a well haha.

If anyone has ever played the ACE mod for vanilla Arma, then you would agree with me that backpacks should operate just like that.

A backpack size is not slot based, its based off cubic centimeters, and every item is assigned an amount it takes up.  I mean, lets be real, I can probably fit like, 10 morphine auto injectors in an empty can of peaches, so why on earth do they take up the same amount of space?

I agree with all of the above. It can't be super realistic or else it would be too tedious to play. However, I really feel that they just don't carry nearly enough stuff. I hope the developers do overhaul the packs a bit to make them carry more. They fill up way too fast.

Yea either way, the inventory system definitely needs an overhaul.

If anything, larger FULL packs should have an Impact on your Speed, on how Long it takes to stop/crouch ect...

Then I would carry nothing but cans of food, bottles, 2x rags, 1x IV-saline bag and 10 bullets for 1 gun xD

That and if they dont care about bullet caliber then they definitely are not going to be super ubber realistic about everything, Having some arcade elements is fine. May not be the ARMA way of things but it works decent even if its unrealistic.
