TheLast-StaR 16 Posted May 12, 2014 (edited) I'm aware that currently the only options we have now are our own soundtracks from whatever source it may be .I'm just wondering about actual game music and ambient sounds. At the moment it feels like I'm having a picnic at the park hearing the birds chirp and happiness every where ( aside from Berezinho).I feel ambient music will help boost the survival horror aspect. You'll also hear random gate fences, leaves and branches snapping and gates closing. I don't see where the problem is, as for music - just grab an in-game addon like Overwolf and play some tunes. Grimey Rick 3417 Posted May 12, 2014 (edited) EDIT: Off-topic post pertaining to cheaters removed. As far as I know they don't intend to add music to DayZ. Edited May 12, 2014 by Grimey Rick

If you hear a branch snapping, it's because it fell from a tree or someone/something just stepped on it.

calabam 55 Posted May 12, 2014 Yeah the sounds that where brought over from the mod are crap on some servers seems as if there bugged and you can hear people drinking noise over and over constant zombie noises even if there none around also why is it when somebody actually asks for something in this game half the folk who reply 'oh deal with it ' or some other excuse is there actually anything wrong with wanting something better for the game !? Fuerii 26 Posted May 12, 2014 (edited) Appropriate sound effects will come. Music? No. You don't hear music while navigating a forest....And calabam, the reason that happens is because a lot of the ideas thrown around on these forums are bad. Either they go against the simulator spirit of this game, or against the "play how you want" sandbox. Music breaks the simulator feel in my opinion. Realistic ambient sounds would be great though. Katana67 2907 Posted May 12, 2014 I miss the hoot-owl sound effect from later versions of the mod.
LimeMobber 47 Posted May 12, 2014 The noise seriously needs to be fixed. The last few weeks my audio when playing is an endless loop of zombie noises when none are around, pop cans being opened when I am alone, guns being reloaded. I get this constant mash of useless sounds that do not in any way match with what is going on. So when someone really is around the corner and drinks a can of pop I have no way of knowing it is real or another fake sound.
sobieski12 835 Posted May 12, 2014 Instead of adding more ambient noise, how about fixing the ambient noise that is broken. * Combination of ammo * Opening soda cans* Players eating* Players reloading * Zombies noises
ZomboWTF 527 Posted May 12, 2014 Instead of adding more ambient noise, how about fixing the ambient noise that is broken. * Combination of ammo * Opening soda cans* Players eating* Players reloading * Zombies noisesyeah, even if i know that it is an alpha right now, this bug has persisted for far too long, it makes you paranoid, and later ignorant to sounds at all aside from footsteps and shots
Weyland Yutani (DayZ) 1159 Posted May 13, 2014 Already been covered by Dean Hall and it won't be until the end of development. Sound comes last.
emigrates 261 Posted May 13, 2014 Have you ever been out in the woods miles from the nearest farm or road? I live in Wales. Random gate noises and soda cans being opened don't occur naturally. If you hear a branch snapping, it's because it fell from a tree or someone/something just stepped on it.That's other peoples sounds you're hearing, set to a global output as opposed to your personal output, ever noticed how much more frequently it happens the more players there are on that server? Besides the obvious bugged global ambient sounds you're hearing, I don't mind the ambient sounds at all and definitely would not want music. If you want music, make a playlist and download Overwolf like I suggested before.
Coltz 5 Posted May 13, 2014 While we are on the topic of sounds. Some of the sounds ingame are just completely inaccurate, to the point that i started to use my crowbar on the walls of houses when people are nearby cause it makes a gun firing sound. Just to scare them away LOL.
eleventhavenue 204 Posted May 13, 2014 I certainly hope they (the sound designers) will refrain from adding ´´creepy´´sounds to add to the ´´survival horror´´ (such a specific phrase and yet it seems to fit everything) aspect of the game. For me, an important aspect of the Chernarus feel (and I think the visual designers consider this a lot when making Chernarus+) is nature's reclamation of society. Nature goes on like ordinary, after all, it's not like the plague is some kind of environmental catastrophe. For sound, I would like: - Birds fitting for the environment: Birds for coniferous forests (like woodpeckers? I'm not sure what local wildlife is in a southwestern Russia analogue), birds for broadleaf forests, and disoriented doves living in the city ruins. - Buildings should make sounds. Old wooden buildings creaking, bricks tumbling down the wrecked international hotel, wind turbulence around large buildings, and rain smattering on windows. - Thick forests makes rain feel and sound differently. lauda 44 Posted May 13, 2014 Is that a bug or did someone actually decide it was a good idea? Good idea or good enough for for a 24€ Game? The game is a simulation, so maybe they want to simulate fear, paranoia, hallucination and stuff like that :P And in the apocalypse everything is ruined, even the Game
emigrates 261 Posted May 13, 2014 Is that a bug or did someone actually decide it was a good idea?I'm going to stick with bug, considering it's dependant on the amount of players.
lauda 44 Posted May 13, 2014 (edited) I'm going to stick with bug, considering it's dependant on the amount of players. Bugs are there to be fixed, but nothing happend for 6 months. They are recording new sounds instead of fixing the engine. Is it so hard? The bug sounds are still there and the breathing sound of the female char now sounds like porno, what a progress........... Is it so hard? The bug sounds are still there and the breathing sound of the female char now sounds like porno, what a progress........... The engine is getting one hell of an overhaul at the mo. Waaaaay past fixing bugged sounds, that's an issue for beta, they cant spend all there alpha time fixing bugs and have 2 complete features in beta. They need to get all there 20(or whatever) features in and functioning one way or the other. Then when we enter beta its a whole year of dedicated bug fixing....balancing ect ect. Now is the time for big acomplishments,...IE, network bubble, Guaranteed network messaging, 64 bit servers, renderer upgrade.....if that isn't fixing the engine I don't know what it.... emigrates 261 Posted May 13, 2014 Is it so hard? It's not exactly pressing a big red button saying "Fix". If you think you can do it, why not teach them a thing or two?

Ghostflux 100 Posted May 13, 2014 yeah, even if i know that it is an alpha right now, this bug has persisted for far too long, it makes you paranoid, and later ignorant to sounds at all aside from footsteps and shots Even the footsteps in this game could use work, some surfaces make nearly no sound while others make a ton. It's a good concept but it doesn't work well enough. Doors also make no sound, they don't all have to be squeeking, but some noise would be good.

Also zombie aggro in the middle of the forrest. I guess it's not a priority atm.
