dtrain7055 (DayZ)

So i have come to the conclusion that dayz really is supposed to be PVP

Recommended Posts

So i was sitting there thinking what next?  i am geared pretty much have everything that i need and almost all that i want.   i can easily survive now, gotten really good with the fire axe to the head of zeds, dont even really keep food on me because i can always just go get some really quick and eat it then.  The reason i see this as a pvp game that is just a little more involved comes from the core of every movie or show with zombies... the intrigue of the human dynamic in it.   look at the walking dead for ex.  we spend all season watching them run around talking to eachother searching for others and a means to survive.  ultimately though we want to see what happens with the other bad guys most recently terminus.   the zombies are cool but i ultimately think that the whole facination with the zombie appocolypse is not really the zombies but the fact that it is a pure lawless state and who you are decides your actions. there is no law there is no jury... there are just survivors who make choices every day that decided if another human is safe or is dead.  if the walking dead only featured a group of survivors that only killed zombies and never had danger from other humans it would have lasted MAYBE 2 seasons.  so the only thing you have to decided when playing this game is do you die a hero? or live long enough to see yourself become the villain?

PVP about sums it up for now.

Exactly this.. There will always be massive amounts of PvP. But once we're able to farm gear and such for a base/camp, I think it'll calm down a bit..

The Walking Dead should've only lasted 1 season, all except the first have been utter shite.

Back on topic, well done for your deduction.

In response to the above post, this will always be a PvP game no matter what mechanics and gameplay elements are added.

yeah thats what i was trying to get at.  im still pretty new never having played the mod and having about 80 hrs in the SA. i too kinda thought there was more than just pvp at first.   now i see that no matter what they do or add in this game that will always be the most important dynamic ultimately.  now can they add things that make it more likely for people to trust eachother and try to work together more sure.  will interactions with other players always the be most fun thing in this game to do ... sure.  but without bandits there can be no heros and vice versa.  you need both to make this game work.  the KOS people are what they need to work on fixing

They should just make it harder to find food, it's not even hard to get your whole mountain backpack full of cans

What I mean is that is should be hard to even get 2 cans of beans, that food is your high value target, not weapons or killing

That's just what I think

Some people don't come to this conclusion even after 200 hours ingame... It is really sad. It is survival game, but it is not about surival from zombies, but other players. Yes, it is PvP game. Always have been.

Congrats, some never come to this inevitable conclusion.

They somehow convince themselves that this is a survival game that is not based around pvp.

Then ppl will Kos in 99% because you don't want that's someone ate your food.

UPD.1.

I tried by friendly so many times, and in 80% i met some ppl who kill me(his friend) while i talk to someone or try to help.

So from now i will kos everyone, because i am pissed of from humans, zombies are not a threat, today i found 2 rises pacls,

I ate one fully and then drinked water on brown stuffed, and god healthy status, found bayonet. My surv. mission is over, i've got food/water for a 5 hours or more + i have best weapon vs zombies for today(bayonet's just perfectly easy to hit zomibe head)

Only murdering ppl, that's the only thing that i have from that point.

And i don't find it funny because sniping mechanic is lame and too far from simulator. Also m4 spray is for hook-handed, so i just have nothing to do except gang-bang ppl on full servers... :( :(

Yep. Once you get out of that "noob" stage where you think everyone is supposed to work together against the environment and build epic bases etc. it gets sort of depressing because you realize that PVP is all DayZ will ever be. Like said above some people after 200+ hours of game play never realize it and they are just easy targets for the ones who are sucking any more possible fun out of the game by KOSing.

I still have hope that DayZ will become an actual survival game one day but the future is looking grim.

But can someone tell me what a survival game is exactly?

Is there an actual example of an online survival game where players do not kill each other?

Im just wondering what sort of draw a game like that would have for people.. I mean if you just take the concept of DayZ and made an entirely new game, that had extremely dangerous Zombies and animals, infections to fight off, most players die within an hour at most. The horror element would need to be quite high to scare people, and keep the adrenaline level up. Otherwise, eventually your skill would catch up to the game and the challenge would be gone and you would get bored of it quickly.

Now take the DayZ mod. Its been alive for over 2 years now. There are players like me that have barely even stopped playing it the entire time. People that have logged 1,000's of hours on the game, continue to come back for more. Why? Not because the hunting and cooking is super fun.. because the pvp is extremely intense and the risks and rewards are quite high. DayZ is perfect the way it is.. the SA just needs time to finish up to get to where it should be. And it will eventually. A game where people can choose to escape the pvp, for as long as they are skilled enough to remain hidden. Others can go full force into the pvp arena..

umm if walking dead was like SA then rick would got KOS'd in the first episode when he shot his gun. there would've never been a group because they would've kos'd each other hell shane alone would've killed most or merle lord knows he'd a kos'd the dude he argued with all the time. the governor would be king because he's king KOS with his white flag BS. so yeah comparing a show to this video game I have trouble doing now and as for PVP meh thaqts what I say dayz has shitty PVP it comes down to who sees who first plain and simple big deal old news.if PVP is all that drives SA then we are all screwed IMHO should be more to this game then that PVP should be more of a side dish not the goddamn entrée.

I don't think the issue is people not realizing PvP is the only thing to do at the moment, I think they were hoping for something more than a giant game of slow paced tdm. Some peeps just want to band together and survive, however they are in the minority. You can't blame them for being upset though, they paid to play how they wanted only to find out that Chernarus is as lawless as the wild west was back in the day

You know in all actuality TWD shows the many aspects of DayZ players.

Bandit/KOS groups intent on their own dominance.

Carebear/Bambi groups just trying to survive..

Lonewolfs that eventually join a friendly group only to get killed by their carelessness.

Theft, Kidnapping, rape, lying, deception, inner group tensions and rivalries.. its all in DayZ and TWD.

All of it.

Even with the game having a million different diversions and things to do , dayz will always be about pvp.

Carebear/Bambi groups just trying to survive..

Why do we have to be classified as Carebears/Bambis?

They could just be players with an RP mindset.

You are not classified as that.

My verbiage and opinions should not dictate the opinions of others. Its just my way of saying things thats all. I am KOS scum, you are carebear bambis. Its more simple that way.

I play with an RP mindset too. I am part of the Chernarus Eradication Force. We are a small group of volunteers that got sent in alone with the task of killing each and every infected human within Chernarus. Our mission is to eradicate the infection at all costs, with the final task of killing ourselves before sending communication back to base that all is clear. This is the only certain way of containing the infection and possibly saving the rest of humanity. ;)

hehe, you might want to rethink those last two orders.

There's nothing else to do, plus PvP in the mod was brilliant. I mean...you could go around eating berries and living in the woods but I can do that IRL.

My evolution has been:

1. Don't kill Bambies, try to make friendly contact and help those less fortunate than you, and survive.

2. Don't kill Bambies, try to make friendly contact if possible, armed people get one chance, help short of arming them, and survive.

3. Don't kill Bambies unless they won't talk to you or act aggressive, try to communicate with single armed players and don't shoot them unless they act flaky, won't talk to you, or you can't get away if things go south, and survive.

4. Avoid contact with Bambies if they seem like they are heading back somewhere fast to get their gear, watch if they're looting to avoid cornering them, anyone with a helmet, back pack or meelee weapon is NOT a Bambi, assume anyone trying to contact you is a hostile until I'm convinced otherwise, survive, try to make friendly contact from a position of strength.

5. Survive, avoid contact with other people, especially anyone other than Bambies, never shoot a gun unless you have to, if a Zed sees you, likely anyone nearby soon will also, most players are a-holes, but if I'm a Bambi, I'll give them a chance, as I've got little to lose, contact only from a position of strength, or nothing to lose.

I've met up with some great guys, both because I've helped them, and because they gave me a chance. Those 'diamonds in the rough' have been the most rewarding aspects of this game. Plus, don't sweat gear. Zeds, glitches and a-holes can take it away in an instant, it makes you a walking Santa Claus, and it pushes me higher on the evolutionary scale above. There are some great guys out there, they just take a lot of risk, luck and hard work to find! I will continue to look for that 1-in-100 person, because I play with about 6 of them now all the time.

im not really saying that its pvp deathmatch, take no prisoners, kos, and everything else.  im saying it is pvp but you have many ways to go about it.  i just got done playing hardcore today for a few hours... loved it.  was on a full 40 person server and most of the interactions werent kos.  did i get killed? yes.  did i meet some people who just wanted to team up? yes.  did i get betrayed? yes.  but no matter the situation it all comes down to pvp.  i have met some cool people in this game so far a lot more bandits, kos people i think will get bored and stop playing eventually or get bored enough to RP and try to actually rob someone or something... whatever floats your boat.  if you are playing to get geared up and are so scared to lose your gear that you take to the hills and hide from others than what is the point of the game?  if this was a survival simulator with no intent of pvp then why make it an MMO.  i used to be the same trust me.  get geared up, hide in the woods and all that.  now i run up to people because i dont care if i die and see what happens.  today i ran into a new spawn, he tried to lie and say his friends were outside and tried to take my stuff.  hit him in the head like 6 times with a machete.  he knocked me unconcious a few times lol but i ultimately won and got my stuff back.  ran into him again and he tried again same result.  then got capped by some random dude that kos... totally ruind what had just went down for the last 10 min between me and this other guy.  after i respawn was running down the street and a bambi was following me.  ran into town and seen a dead body, looked to my right and there was an armed guy in the street who was at another dead body going through his stuff.  ran up and knocked him out with my fists and ran him for all his gear.  the bambi seen this then tried to knock me out and take the stuff off of me so i knocked him out.  after they both lay there unconcious i ran to elecktro.  ran into the city seen more dead people so i ran into the hospital and seen a guy sniping people so i ran up behind him and knocked him out with my fists and now am fully kitted with a mosin maxed out with attachments a fire ax, the works.  the absolute most fun i have had playing this game so far.  im not going to knock people who want to just "survive" but i have found that interacting with others is essential to the survival of this game. without it everyone will just stop playing and it will always just be an alpha.

I was not in any way taking away from your assessment, in fact - as in TWD - the Zeds are merely the McGuffin of the game. PvP is the essence of the game. I can't see DayZ as a single player game.

And, I suppose, if everybody who played was willing to say, "Hey, friend, let's team up and rebuild this world, create a collective and gather food and supplies and feed the hungry and thirsty Bambies as they spawn in, and make each server a perfect world, the game would pretty much suck as much as it the world did before Day Z.

Then you would never have the pleasure of exerting your own sense of justice on the sniping murderer with the clown mask, or having the chance of being that clown mask wearing murderer. This game, is thus, quite ingenious.

PVP will always be part of the game. the whole point of DayZ is that its Open world/Sand box. no rules no playstyle funneling thru development. every player is given an apocalyptic world in which to do what ever he or she chooses, be that for good or evil.

Adding more conetent, especially enormously time consuming end-game stuff like full base building or hig end vehicles will simply shift the PvP from death match on the coast to squad/clan fight sup north for military and vehicle assets. The only way to ever cut it down would be to masively change the development philosophy towards trying to make players play a certain way- at wich point you might as well take the dayZ name of of it and call it something else because its just a zombie MMORPG then.
