I think you can find solace in knowing that once SA is open for modding, there most likely going to be some spinoff which will add tank or APC or something.

Its a shame though it will be up to modders though to get it done. :X

 

I just hope the standard vanilla vehicles are fun as well as designed differently from the mod.

We have to wait and see but I kinda trust, that the new vehicles will be done differently and better then in mod.

Will be happy times to search for vehicle, then spend hours to get parts for fixing it and then go out in a blaze of fire....

 

I remember, back in a mod, when I heard a car I scrambled to hide in a bush or under a tree.

Holding my trusty weapon in sweaty pals...thinking if I should spray the car or not....something simillar as with hearing the chopper flying about.

Why do people keep bringing up molotovs? Do you think a tank has wholes in it? Do you think they fill with water when it rains?

 

they do have holes, or you think the crew doesnt need to breath while inside it?

 

The main vehicle on the Communication Base that i server on brazillian army have holes in the top for air circulation and 11 barrel 'doors' in the sides and back, so the crew can shoot infantry with their rifles.

 

And they dont have special tires, as a dumb recruit popped a tire of one of them when playing with his rifle while guarding the base. (Fucking conscripts, man)

That's the kind of armored vehicle i'm suggesting here, exposed gunner, vulnerable tires that you can shoot out and disable the vehicle.

 

They're pretty much a vodnik. anything more than this would be too much.

 

This is not a tank, ofc, more like a LAV or Infantry transportation vehicle.

Want tanks in the SA? Make a war mod or wait for someone else to, the base game is survival not war, except against zombies(though not really)

 

Cars will be enough of a threat, if someone has a car and you don't they already have a huge advantage over you.

Especially if it's not simply a case of get in, or out, accelerate, reverse. If they add in features like being able to duck behind the wheel people can hide from gunfire and run you over.

That would be cool.

 

On that, off topic but when cars are added I think they should eventually make them first person only, especially if they do that ducking I mentioned above, since in third person people could just drive like that and be invincible where in first person if you do that you have to be careful you don't hit a tree or something.

 

 

I would probably play a war mod with tanks and such but having them in the base game would just be a hassle, I want pvp with people that need some legitimate skill to kill me not just blow me up from a distance and anything else that moves.

again, i'm not talking about freaking tanks, man. I'm talking about armored vehicles, just a long term objective to groups to get up and running instead of putting a tent in the woods of elektro and deathmatching all day out of boredom.

Yup Helicopters and tanks should not be in stand alone let a modder make a script or a mod for them.

So your telling me your going to be the guy running down the road constantly getting hit by cars? There going to be shit offroad and if you still manage to get hit by one thats just bad.

Wouldn't mind a Russian T-Series chassis used as a base for an improvised APC like the Kangaroo carrier. Would be fun to play around with. (They just need to add shooting from vehicles with rifles. (Seen it in a VBS2 video so it's entirely possible, don't let them lie to you and say it's not.)

 

Or any APC with tires like the LAV just make the main cannon non-functional or blown up or w/e. But a good base for further end game vehicle modifications. It's not like those vehicles have disappeared. I wouldn't mind it, since we'll be getting small improvised explosive devices. I wouldn't mind a few AT launchers with rare as hell ammunition. Hell, make an AT-4 launcher rare as hell spawn, and can ONLY fire 1 shot, then the weapon is useless. (Like real life) 

 

I wouldn't mind tanks as long as the main gun can not be used. I don't want to see players leveling structures with the gun, but using the vehicle it's self as an battering ram against fortifications. 

I think of them as mobile fortress. Protection for the crew but almost 0 combat capability for the endgame.

You think they keep the hatch open at all times as a friendly invite for molotovs/grenades? And an IFV is an armoured vehicle, not a tank

How do you know? When they're upgradable they might add offroad tires, or there might be quads/off road vehicles. When they're first introduced they'll probably be broken enough to go up near vertical hills anyway, maybe even go through trees and whatnot.

 

Yeah I'm aware that that's the point of a tank.

But it's not the point of a zombie survival game good lord...

 

Ok yeah let's talk about that, obviously you have limited shells, limited fuel and limited everything. Why in the fuck, in a zombie apocalypse, would you be using a tank that makes a huge amount of noise and an even bigger amount of noise when firing when it's going to attract every single zombie in a mile or more radius?

You would mow down a few, easy but then you'd run out of fuel and have to sit in your metal coffin and die or go out and get eaten.

 

They are not viable or realistic in a survival situation against zombies, at all. A well stocked army could maybe survive but a bunch of asshats who woke up on a beach would just get mutilated.

 

So there's another reason why they make no sense to be in the base game.

so sorry that i want more then a tent in the woods to work for- or think that hundreds of man hours put in by a group of people to fix or build something should have a steep advantage for your trouble.

 

I'd be willing to bet you didnt even read the entire OP or any of the suggestions about how to implement them that would pretty much solve most of the issues except for the vehicle it's self being very hard to kill.

It is what people like you and me would likely do. Grabbing a big car, stuffing it full of supplies, barring every door, putting razorwire everywhere else, making it bullet-proof by adding 10 layers of whatever you can find, etc etc etc. 

That's what DayZ should depict.

 

The improvised truck is 1000 times more stylish than the military tank.
Remember the Mad Max fuel convoy? Can you imaging having a T41 in it? It would ruin the fucked up picture of ragtag survivors that do whatever it takes.

 

In my opinion we should avoid everything that leads into a military simulation, and cut down greatly on that working military gear, but go fully for "what would a normal person do when in this situation with the little resources a normal person has."

Well, I for one.. if I found a tank.. I would hope in that sucker and do my best to try and operate the driving portion of the operation. Or convert it to scrap metal, or just convert parts of it.

you all want dayz to be identical to the movies you watch, or walking dead, FOR FUCKS SAKE, the game is not a movie!

 

It is supposed to be authentic, not to simulate the old cliche that a thousand zombie movies brought to the genre.

 

If you can attach 2 tons of metal to a truck and think that you would still be able to drive it, why the fuck do you want to exclude vehicles that are made like that from the beginning? and the most pathetic thing: YOU WANT HELICOPTERS

so finding and operating a tank would not be possible in a heavy militarized post sovietic region, but finding a fucking chopper and fixing it (cause no one needs a 2 year long preparation course to be able to do it, right?  :rolleyes: ) is possible?

 

Cut the crap, you're all just affraid that you wont be able to use half your brain to disable armor in the game, and that your non existant tactics will not be enough to overcome it.

 

I disabled a fucking stryker that was trying to run me over with a m4SD in epoch, literally shot 4 of its tires out while dodging its failed attempts to kill me, for you it must be impossible, as you say they're invincible, they should be even more with the unrealistic damage factors of the mod, right?

The only thing in this front that I would consider ok would be up armored cars and trucks.

 

Basically installing metal plates on cars and trucks that slows them down but makes them resilient against most small arms with only a few able to penetrate inside.

 

Tires are still vulnerable.

 

Tanks and helis however god no.

remove the guns and they are technically the same shit, only difference is that the last one have less visibility without exposure and it wont need an entire new vic-upgrade system that will take a year to devs to get working.

You do know that vehicles are going to be completely different in stand alone right in order to have such things as upgrades on cars be possible right ?

 

I am pretty sure the devs had mad max armored cars in mind when they made stand alone.

gibonez got it right with his picture comparison.

First 2 are cool and fit.
The third one is just generic, boring and doesn't add much to the expectation (although stereotypical, ofc) that I have when I hear "Zombie world".
