MCNine 13 Posted May 10, 2014 (edited) Remember the dayz mod days when shootouts at devil's castle were some of your best times? Well, i do. Recently, i have visited a few castles throughout Chenarus and to my surprise i find no loot/ no people wanting to kill me. Is this just me or are the days of castle shootouts over? JokersWarPig 16 Posted May 10, 2014 I as actually at Devils Castle last night. I found nothing besides a water bottle. It was a shame really, I wanted to atleast take out some zombies.
kakysas666 191 Posted May 10, 2014 Black mountain usually spawns military weapons and attachments, found RDS once and lots of m4 ammo.
MCNine 13 Posted May 10, 2014 It was just nice taking all the time to get the gear, cars, and friends and head up to devil's were there may or may not be a a crew. On several occasions in mod i would be on a low pop server on run into 2 man teams just chilling. If the developers could give the few castles a little more attention it would make for some interesting raids.
pale1776 375 Posted May 10, 2014 Personally, in the Devils Triangle (DC to NEAF to NWAF) Id like to.see more castles, or ruins. Think the old church in the opening scene of A2, or the abandoned ruins in Altis. Something, ANYTHING worthy of being cool or defending.
Dreypa 98 Posted May 10, 2014 Well, in the mod. Castles were often abundant with supplies / objectives. And usually based up on epoch. Neither can be found in the SA. Plus the stairs in the SA castles are entirely too narrow and buggy, both times I've been to devil castle i broke my leg walking down them. And fell through Rog's stairs. I wouldn't dare climb up those again.
MONKAYPOO0 6 Posted May 10, 2014 I miss the castles, they were good. Standalone has a lot of places to gear up now though that even if they add more military gear to them they wont be the same.

I wouldn't dare climb up those again. This is what i am hoping to accomplish. Maybe we can reach the dev's directly to give us some better loot options. You right about those stairs being glitchy. In many ways the castles were deathtraps if you didnt know how to move correctly. Still love them and hope we have a reason for people to go there. Make the top of the castle a prime spawn point for something extremely rare.
maybeme 22 Posted May 10, 2014 They need more attention. I stumbled upon one in my first life in hardcore, and as soon as I walked up, right outside the door, I desynced, and it resynced and my leg was broken, then I got a "You are dead." screen, so I'm not going near any for awhile. WrecklessMEDIC 129 Posted May 10, 2014 I used to run to Zub Castle on my way to Starey Sobor back in the mod. Great place to gear up. I swing by every once in awhile for nostalgia.
TheLoneSurvivior 37 Posted May 10, 2014 Castle's are boring in the standalone
Sedstr 18 Posted May 10, 2014 (edited) I found nothing but zombies, lots of zombies, more than I find at airfields.Thankfully all I have to do is run down hill and they kill themselves leaping after me. Edited May 10, 2014 by Sedstr
BadAsh (DayZ) 1513 Posted May 11, 2014 Currently action is concentrated on that small upper right corner of the map where everybody spawn. So castles are definitely not where its happening atm. Hopefully hunting will disperse players more, and even more hopefully spawn locatioons will be changed.
Bororm 1156 Posted May 11, 2014 They'll tweak loot tables I'm sure and perhaps helicopters will spawn there again once those get added back in, like in the mod. I think that sort of thing is going to come in beta, when they balance stuff. I personally think they should add a really rare spawn broadsword or something to one of the castles =P I know it's not realistic, you're not gonna find that shit still sitting in a castle, but it would be fun! We will have those epic battles at Devils again.. one of my favorite places to fight in dayz. Only better place imo is NWAF but Im biased so that does not really count. I agree, even with no real changes to the castles or the area around them, we will see more action at them again someday. Right now, there just aren't enough people in a server and there's a complete lack of motivation to visit them. Newer players likely don't know they exist, and three of the five you kind of have to go out of your way to get to (Devil's and Black Mountain can be seen from a distance and attract your attention).Once there are vehicles, traveling will be less of a chore and people will be more prone to exploring I think. They will want to see what they've been missing. I also foresee castles being a great place to setup camp once that's a possibility.
Katana67 2907 Posted May 11, 2014 (edited) I think they need to actually change the building models of the castles themselves. They look, and play, horribly. They're low-res grey blobs with idiotically simple interiors. Likewise, there's no real reason for anything to be spawning in the castles we've got now. They're not museums, they're just empty warrens. Sort of silly to just have decent loot spawning on the bare stone floor of a random castle. They need to update the interior and exterior models (are shelves out of the question?), add a bit of variety to the castles themselves (i.e. not just one spire and that's it) and perhaps fortify them as to give them both an apocalyptic feel and make loot spawns a bit more plausible.
