huskyblue 1 Posted May 9, 2014 This has happened to me several times now. When I start up DayZ for a nice gaming session and join a server, I'll randomly start as a fresh spawn with all my gear gone. For instance, yesterday I was at the NWAF, and I logged into DayZ to play today. When I joined a server--it was not hardcore, mind you, and I always play regular--I was a fresh spawn in one of the coastal towns. I quickly left the server, hoping that the game didn't autosave my progress, but I guess the game did get a chance to autosave because every subsequent server I joined had me as a fresh spawn. I realize that DayZ SA is in alpha, but this gets very frustrating because I spend a lot of time hunting down gear and weapons, only for all of it to randomly disappear. Is this a normal occurrence for the rest of you? Are there any ways to avoid DayZ from screwing me over like this?
ld-airgrafix 403 Posted May 9, 2014 Started for me recently as well, however when I broke my leg and no matter how many times I restarted I couldn't loose that character, go figure
qww 287 Posted May 9, 2014 it happened to me about a month ago, then, its started happening again, twice in last 2 days, when i try restarting, sometimes its brings back my old character from a month ago last night i wanted to have a game with my friend, but we cant, because hes where we logged out, and i was back on coast .maybe il reinstal the game., and try to delete any dayz folders
byrgesen 1341 Posted May 9, 2014 Best advise is to find a small number of servers that you know works, favorite them, and stick to them. Some servers seem to have connection issues with the HIVE still, so dont just join any random server.

Find that one server, which is perfect for you and stick with it, at least until the game and the servers become more stabile the they are now. But i wanna stress, this is not a game issue or a server issue, its a setup issue, on the GSP's side. Basicly if you find a server, that respawns you at the beach, it means the GSP have no idea how to setup the server correctly, and it should be avoided. You can find the official thread on the subject here: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/167343-servers-with-connection-issues-to-central-hive/ Edited May 9, 2014 by Byrgesen
BadAsh (DayZ) 1513 Posted May 9, 2014 (edited) In my experience most of these "character wipe" threads are usually nothingbut people being killed during the logging out process, due to either ignorance of the logging out process, logging out in a populated area or just pure bad luck (there is really no 100% safe place to log out). Edit: To elaborate, your character stays on the server for 30 seconds after you log out. Plenty of time for any bad guys that stalked you (especially relevant at NWAF) to kill you. I forgot the obligatory "It's ALPHA" statement whilst I was typing it all up so just insert this one anywhere ya like... It's ALPHA!

It isn't a setup issue, if there's a setup issue the HIVE will reject the server outright just as it does with those listed in the original post you've linked there. A server already connected to the HIVE isn't setup incorrectly, a crash, reset, or disconnect is caused by networking issues. These can manifest themselves in many different ways, the most common is a DDoS of that individual server causing it to be unable to connect to the HIVE network while users are still able to get onto it. These are often temporary issues until attack mitigation processes kick in after the logic recognises that the server is being attacked. If anyone has any particular instances of Multiplay servers experiencing this issue please provide server names/IPs so we can look into it. :) Edited May 9, 2014 by Skitrel
Death By Crowbar 1213 Posted May 9, 2014 I used to get some very frustrated with this. But then I realized a few things (partially from experience partially from what people say on the boards here):Sometimes it happens and there's nothing you can do about it. I used to want to steak and throw things and would come at the forums like a bull in a China shop, but I've moved on to acceptance at this point. Where you camp can help - sometimes a zed may have been chasing you for miles and you might not even know it. Always camp on the 2nd floor of a building or wait at least 10 minutes before camping if you're in the middle of nowhere. On high pop servers, never camp where you're obviously found. I camped on the roof of a hospital last night and when I hopped on this morning to play for an hour I was confused to find my 6 slot pants, gun, and tactical vest all gone, but everything else was intact. I was obviously looted after I logged (either that or there's a new bug that got me, it's more likely some one looted me after I logged but was kind enough to not kill me).I try to stick to a few servers I'm comfortable with as well these days. I used to jump on any random server that was daylight and not empty.
Caboose187 (DayZ) 3036 Posted May 9, 2014 Most of the "random" resets are caused by logging off in an unsafe area and you've been killed. Plain and simple.

It is the only way and works for me. Only time I get wiped is on servers I'm not familiar with. Hope this helps! It really is the only and best advice. huskyblue 1 Posted May 10, 2014 See, I never knew that the game kept a player logged in ten minutes after they click the 'Quit' button. I figure this is the cause to most of my "random" restarts. I'm glad I asked because otherwise I would have thought that all my restarts were from a bug in the game.
