DayZ SA's current state in a nutshell.

Recommended Posts

I agree with this thread.

Honestly the more I think about it, the more I think DayZ SA is just a fast cash grab for BIS & Rocket.

"Hey dude this mod is very popular, more so than even Arma II itself... How do we cash in on this? because technically it's free"

"I know dude let's strip out a shitload of things and make it a Stand alone product, then with the time we will make lazy ass updates to make the game seem alive."

I really hope I am wrong but I'm doubtful, they will keep adding little bits and bobs to this game but if you want to stop hackers they will need to redesign the whole engine and make everything Server side/controlled, doubt it will happen though...

Also that disclaimer on the steam page, reverse psychology, do NOT buy = but I want to buy it, lol. It is the disclaimer for any shortcomings that they already knew will exist.

I hope they all prove me wrong, I'll believe it when I see it, talk is cheap.

Long ago (during the closed beta) in the official forums I said "TERA - ONLINE" was going to fail and why, people hated me on the forum and trolled the thread but in the end I was right. It was dying until they made it FREE to play, then it regain some life, but the fact that it went F2P already indicated that it failed as a paid product.

Can't tell if I'm just (in general) lucky or unlucky, but I'd be running around Berezino or Cherno for half an hour and wouldn't find a single person. These are 40/40 servers, too.

I can't say you're necessarily wrong, however, I can say that you don't seem to be taking into account how early in development the standalone is.  In particular, thinking they stripped a "shitload of things" from the mod and called it a standalone game, is way off the mark.

All of these "DayZ SA in A nutshell" threads are absolute garbage.

1. The game is in Alpha, and its set up the way it is ON PURPOSE to test the functionality of everything.

2. You are CHOOSING to go to Berenzino.  If you are tired of getting killed in Berenzino, guess what? DON'T GO THERE.

3. These threads prove NOTHING.

4. The guy that said is a cash grab: you are a complete moron.  Its ALPHA.  Either get that fact through your head, or go play something else.

Jesus. You guys need to seriously think about what you are posting before you post it.  If you don't like it, go play something else.  Its that simple.

Can feel the butthurt when people make direct insults at people.

"I can't make proper arguments and win by conveying my message, so I'll just throw in some insults, name calling and singling out someone." ~best forum posters ever.

Here, I will help you like my teachers helped me in primary school.

"I don't think DayZ is a cash grab or that it will fail because..."

<insert couple of paragraphs explaining>

<Avoid shit answers like a single word or short sentence>

Hello there

OMG you are completely right!!!!!111!?!11

Its all a scam!!!!2!1111!

It may well be not quite what many folk "expect" but damn, there's no scam and it disappoints me that folk seem to want to jump on  that bandwagon.

I will be happily chortling when the final SA 1.0 hits the street and although it may not be perfect I will be so happy watching many folk chowing down on their own words.

Rgds

Scam!!!!1110101010

I didn't say scam.

I said cash grab.

Cash grab relates to greed.

Not Fraud.

2 Years ago DayZ was created as a Mod for free.

Today we have DayZ SA at $29.99 offering basically less than what the mod did.

Currently DayZ is just a Cash grab, whether or not that changes in the future depends on what BIS do with it.

If they make a solid finished game.

We shall see, but no, it's not a scam.

So you're saying.... they saw a market for a standalone game based off a mod of a property they already owned and they decided to make such a game because it was sure to sell well? Those bastards! What are they, some sort of business?

This is dayz current state.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtvoFXxD0bs

Janky, arcade mess.

This.

The game is a game based solely on griefing other players at the moment, there is no survival aspect to the game AT ALL. Now even for an alpha it is hard to comprehend how a game that is supposed to be a survival game has turned into a pathetic mess involving stupid disparities between weapons, unrealistic weaponry (machete and axe) and tons and tons of glitchers. So many people glitching in the neaf i can not remember the last time i went down the airfield without seeing one person inside a glitch who can pop out of an invisible wall and shoot you, in the air control tower glitch they don't even need to pop out, they can shoot through the walls.

I understand it is alpha but i do not understand why this game has turned into this. I was saying to my team earlier this game is a laugh for us, we have fun killing others and that is great but it is not what this game was meant to be, it was meant to be a very hard, unfunny and unforgiving game that was extremely tense, a little scary and had decent realism, sadly at this stage of the game it is anything but, that's not to say it wont improve just that it has a long way to go.

If everyone was constantly dying from beefy zombies, starvation, dehydration AND other players, the development process would be slowed down even further than it already is because nobody would be TESTING THE PRODUCT THAT IS IN ALPHA STAGE OF PRODUCTION.

There is your first grader one sentence response.

So you're saying.... they saw a market for a standalone game based off a mod of a property they already owned and they decided to make such a game because it was sure to sell well? Those bastards! What are they, some sort of business?

EXACTLY!

Thats what happen they saw their famous Mod (which was free) can rake in the $$$.

Heres a story, Valve Bought Counter strike from modders long ago, they didnt make a paid SA for it, they kept it free, Then came Half-life 2 and Counter:Strike Source, again the mod was free, CS: GO is the first one to come out as a SA and I think it's because CS: source is outdated and there is no Half-Life 3. CS:Go was always cheap $15,  Conclusion: fair, not a cash grab.

Cash Grab = Trying to make money with little effort, such as poor sequels to great games/movies in an attempt to cash in on the actual title as opposed to the quality of the work. Like those games that come out at the same time a movie, for example The amazing spiderman 2 currently. The game is poor, but it will still sell due the the combination of the Movie in theatres now. Kids will want it, parents will buy it, etc. (hence why it's all kiddie games)

Why I am leaning on the cash grab idea:

They basically took the Arma III engine, which they already had.

They took the Arma II elements which they already had.

They took the DayZ mod elements which they already had.

They mashed it all like this and sprinkled some updates since Dec 2013.

I've seen Rockets road map to the end of 2014 at which point they hoping this game will be live.

The road map is not very impressive, I won't outline all the things that were mentioned but there is no big game changer in there, what you see now is what you're going to basically get with some extra items thrown in such as vehicles, loot and animals for cooking, few other things go check it out yourself.

FACT: people are still going to PVP, I mean seriously you think they going to all hold hands together and go kill zombies in an engine that cannot support a lot of AI characters?

Forever dedicated PVP zones. That is DayZ.

They could already make this game a 10 times more fun if they just removed dedicated Weapon spawns (airfields, military bases, tents), Why not just give every house a very low % of spawning a weapon so that every house... every location... is worth checking, and looting and exploring?
