Weapons Drawn or Put away and KOS policy ...

So I hear the below ALOT on the forums:

"I shot so and so for having a weapon out to teach him a lesson"

Why is having your weapons holstered or not matter ?

I mean I get the general idea that way people supposedly know your "friendly"

But here is the deal the vast majority of players are NOT friendly. So it is in my mind to keep weapons at the ready in urban areas and millitary bases. I also expect and would not fault someone else for doing the same.I never shoot first but I rarely stop moving either and always have a plan to be in and out of an area in as little time as possible (some NWAF runs in under 15 mins)

So many bandits like to camp easily defendable areas like an ATC or Prison stairs that running in without guns drawn is akin to suicide..

I recommend the policy to be meet each other as equals. If you encounter each other dont force them to put their weapon away or simply assume someone is a bandit just cause he has his out....

Instead meet in the middle and say u can keep ur weapon up but as long as u do I will keep mine up. If a shootout incurs both are likely to take dmg at close ranges as opposed to one becoming the prisoner in a game theory scenario.

Also most people will shoot you whether you have a gun drawn or not....

All that said wait til someone fires upon another unjustly before opening fire.

im a new player just bought the game less then a weak ago and these dumbass ppl are the ones that ruin the game and turn most players away like as a new player u run forever to a spot that u may be able to get a wep (with no ammo) then these scrubs just shoot u while ur unarmed for the most part lol then u have to run all over again to get shot with barely any gear ? was worst 30$ i spent on some real shit

Dont give up. Make the trip to NWAF and hole up somewhere far north away from the maniacs of the coast. Then move on down south when you feel like observing but stay low key.

Google a map...or follow the train tracks all the way to the end of the line (when your back is to the coast make a right and follow the tracks. Make sure u get some food and water before u leave the last city on the coast and hid up into the wilderness.

Once u hit the end of the line head due east over the grassy hills and your there. Should take you two hours if u follow the tracks but there are cities and castles on the way insight of the tracks u can checkout.....just dont hid to NEAF unless u feel like dying.

Keep playing or give up.  This is the game, those people aren't ruining the game, they're playing it.  You can't expect everyone else to change because you're new.

 

Also, learn to navigate.

Many people have brought up some kind of system for identifying bandit's / hero's and while I scoffed at the idea before, I have come to the point (in only 3 months of playing) that something should be implemented to ALLOW people to take 2 seconds to calculate the other person before shooting, talking, ect. I've come to realize that you have to pretty much jump on the band wagon and kos whenever you are in a) Elektro, Cherno, Svet, or Berenzino and b ) an air force base or military installation. Aside from simply roaming around the map, those places are where everyone's at. Hell, it's not even as if you have 2 seconds to calculate the other person. It's an immediate kos or die. No question about it. I'm quickly losing count of how many times I'll be moving through a dense town area and out of the corner some guy approaches and is shooting before I have time to "react" properly. 

 

I've become so wary of people. I still hold to not shooting if I have the drop on them or can spot them from afar. But I no longer "stop" when I run up on someone unexpectedly. I just start shooting.

I agree we should not be marked as good or evil.

My orginal post is more about why some feel that thus who run around with weapons out warrant unprovoked aggression.

It's not that they do warrant unprovoked aggression...it's simply, you can bet that guy will simply start shooting at whatever moves. When I see people in towns that are not intending on hunting down everything that moves, they either have a melee weapon out (for zeds) or no weapon at all. Non kos players play smart and have no need for fire arms. The guys you see running around town with weapon drawn are either too paranoid and will shoot dust moving, or just want to kill whomever they can come upon.

I generally have a weapon out, there's way too many people and things that want to kill you. Combine that with the disconnect between hitting the button and things happening and you are basically dead walking.

1. I run around an airfield...geared rather well...weapon out..break my leg. Get saved by 4 dudes all fully geared too.

 

2. I come from the new town, halfway decent gear...sawed off shotty, axe...civilian clothing. Have the shotty out, stroll into Hangar.See 2 People, start to pack weapon away, they fire...bad shooters, must have wasted at least 1x60 mag to break my legs than kill me for "having a weapon out". *dumb mf´ers *

 

 

 

so...ye...you never know. It all depends on how you approch or beign approached.

 

if i enter a town and later see houses open I dident open i sure as hell have a weapon at the ready.

 

What i experienced since sometime is...after i had a friendly Encounter usally the next Person i see i either get fired upon or tries to kill me...thats Balance in DayZ  :D

I've noticed this mindset as well. It's ridiculous to expect from others to risk their lives by holstering their only viable means of defence.  Only madmen would keep their weapons holstered and if they have them drawn it doesn't mean they're out for a kill

I would have loved to merge this thread, but it was taking a downwardspiral already due to some gentleman trying to start a war over it.
