Two million units sold

how on earth are you being conned?

you paid £20 (or whatever equivalent currency you use). for a game that you were TOLD was unfinished, you were also told that when it is finished, the game will cost a lot more than what you have currently paid.  At no point were you told it was a finished game.  You paid the money KNOWING that the game was unfinished.  You aren't expected to pay any more money, so there is no 'conning' going on at all.

Imagine you paid £20 to a kickstart campaign to develop a new game. Then imagine that the development was much slower than expected. Then imagine that if every time someone questioned the rate of development or voiced concern they were shot down for even asking..It's not unreasonable to expect a decent return for your investment. Just because you are comfortable throwing your money at something and you don't care about the quality of service you are getting, doesn't mean everyone is the same.

With kickstarter and with early access, you make a conscious decision, you trade early access for a certain risk.

However!

You were reasonably warned, both from playing the free mod and on the sales page itself. Speaking of the sales page, the sales page also described the roadmap and already in December 2013, this roadmap informed you that the alpha was scheduled for the coming 12 months.

So far the warning still applies and so far we're both still in alpha and still in 2014.

It's on you to control your own wild expectations and manage your patience.

the fact remains that you were informed of the state of the game at the time of purchase and you still went ahead and purchased it.  My issue wasn't with your other concerns, my issue was the fact that you accused Bohemia/Rocket of 'conning' you.  I was simply pointing out that there is no 'Con' in play.  You have paid £20 for an unfinished game that will cost more when it is finally released, It is not going to cost you any more money than the initial £20.

Just wanted to shout out to the Devs a big congrats! Keep up the GOOD work in spite of the many naysayers and complainers. Just know that there are a plenty of folks who support your time & effort towards making this game and all you do to make it better each day.

remarkable success for an experiment in game design. congratulations are in order.

i, for my part, do not expect all the revenue from this sales to go into DayZ. that would be, in my humble opinion, rather unreasonable. of course i am looking forward to the increased possibilities that the success brought to the game: additional studios, migration to steam, 64bit, even replacement of the renderer. but i also look forward to the things that are behind the horizon, to dean hall building his own studio and making the games he wants to without any limitation from a parent company or publisher. i am actually absolutely excited about this - its a success story of a man with a vision, and i am so glad i was here to witness it. its an inspiration to me, not to give up and settle but to follow your dreams.

Congrats dev team!

Know that all of your hard work doesn't go unnoticed or unappreciated.

I know that the community here doesn't always let you know that.

Keep up the good work!

Just adding my congradulations...this is so much more than I expected. I thought we would have only the hardcore mod players buying in at the early stages. Seems everyone wants a piece of the dayz action...and so they should. This only re-enfoces how much of a truly unique experience DayZ is.

Keep t up devs, hoping for good things over the months to come :)

Ps all you whining  saying its taking too long....

ALPH.....ADD

BETA.....FIX

It really is that simple :)

So anyone who has doubts or concerns should just ignore them because you don't consider their opinions valid? I hope you never end up on jury service.

Wow congrats... Better pull your fingers out though, theres gonna be a lot of whiny backseat devs who obviously know more about your engine than you do in that 2million.

Edit: lol 2 whiny posts before id even finished typing..

They have been handed what? $40 million in cash to design a game that they are not designing from the ground up but are designing by modifying existing games. They have a little less than half the amount of money that Rockstar used to design GTA5 a game infiinitely more complex than DayZ.

There's no evidence for your previous statement, on a jury you're to base your verdict on the evidence.

My issue wasn't with your other concerns, my issue was the fact that you accused Bohemia/Rocket of 'conning' you.

Looks like you missed that all important word I used...WHETHER.

Changes the context from the 'certainty that you are suggesting, to a possibility...a questioning. I never accused them of any such thing. You''re the one making half-cocked assumptions and unfounded accusations.

He's not really making emtpy assumptions. You heavily implied the possibility of beeing conned. Which is a pretty pointless assumption lacking any foundation.

Also:

You are really proving your simple-mindedness here.

I don't really feel like participating in a discussion here or defend the game in fanboy mannerism. But the blind accusations based on nothing but impatience and naive conceptions are annoying me too much.

Can we have a reasoned discussion without your personal insults towards people? Surely we can manage that?

GTA 5 Cost £170 Million To Make And Market, Officially The Most Expensive Game Ever.

So infact, you are miles off. They made about a fifth and that is SALES.

I'm not going to bash on the devs, I really appreciate how much time it will take. I would like to see however, a comprehensive roadmap with approximate dates when features will be released. If that already exists, please link me to it!  :beans:

Approximate dates is a bad idea, while gamers often struggle with impatience and handle uncertainty very poorly, they handle delays even worse. There are still people holding a grudge over the delay of the standalone December 2012, even though they know a release this early would probably have meant, they would have gotten the mod packaged as a standalone.
