What I predict DayZ will achieve by the end of the year.

Recommended Posts

I wonder how long it will take the fanbois that endlessly defend the game from every ounce of criticism to realize that the foundation of this game, the engine, is never going to adequately be able to handle thousands of zombies around the map, vehicles, thousands of items/re-spawning, dedicated storage for thousand of items, base building, random map events, heli crashes, and 100+ players on the map.  It just isn't going to happen.  By the time they implement all that you'll be pressing the weapon button 50 times before it responds and rubber-banding every 5 seconds.  Hell it'll take them 2 years before half that stuff is even in anyway so I guess it doesn't matter really.

There's no fanbois here really. I do see reasonable and knowledgeable post rebutting the utter shite coming out from people who don't know anything about game development. I haven't heard one person say DayZ is the greatest alpha ever released and if BIS mess it up and make it shite nobody is going to play it (unlike WarZ - now there's a bunch of fanboy idiots).

The fact is as it stands right now is DayZ SA is a good game. It plays well and thousands of people are playing it, almost non stop when it isn't even finished yet. Personally I'm limiting my play time on it but the core experience seems solid enough to me so far and things like weapons and zeds will get fixed.

I certainly see no doom and gloom. There's no evidence they're not going to be able to deliver what they want and maybe even more - I certainly wasn't expecting to have to hunt food, just run up to a cow and whack it over the head but now, who knows what we'll need to do.

would be nice to see some more experiments and tweaks with the zombies would be great if every week or 2 weeks they tweaked zombies slightly then came back to us,. Rather than just leaving us with broken zombies for >1 month

Yes i know the AI pathfinding will take longer, however they could easily do small tweaks every week . This could be a small tweak to AI Code, that goes through experimental than to stable. Then we could have a thread about feedback, and people vote and give thoughts on improvements week by week improving the base AI zombies,, until the new team has the pathfinding solution.

For example!!!

Current Zombies: Sprint Speed is 10% faster than Character

10 zombies average per large town (approximate)

Suggested Experiments:

May Week 1 : Sprint speed same as character

                       Melee attack 20% faster animation

                       Damage slightly higher

                       10 zombies average per town

May Week 2: Zombies only walk or jog (10% slower than character sprint)

                      Melee attack 20% faster animation

Damage is almost fatal for every hit- 40 % damage

30% risk of broken bones / bleeding from every hit

May Week 3 : Zombies only walk and slow jog (20% slower than character sprint)

Melee attacks same as above with 50% risk of bleeding/ bone breaking

Increase zombie numbers significantly and include Hordes

I would also like to see an infection system , where by if you are hit by a zombie or grabbed you become more and more ill until dying some hours or days later. No known cure

While your overall idea is interesting, fixing the zombies is not as simple as you'd think

.

But regardless, having a permanent infection feature would be essentially pointless, and not fun. I'm fine with you getting illness from the zombie's uncleanly, bloody hands, but to actually get the virus wouldn't be fun nor would it make sense (Dean has said no to players becoming zombies)

i dont want player to turn into zombie but i think the zombies should be more dangerous and if one grapples or gets a good bite that should be it, the timer should start (random one day or couple days) after which you just pass out and die.

I think the base game is a bit easy, and this would be one way i would make people FEAR zombies and force them to kill the zombies before they get too close.

I have also suggested much less food/drink loots, especially when hunting is enabled, and drinking raw water should carry a risk of infection unless boiled

I want a really challenging base game that forces people to think they are in a real zombie apocalypse, i feel currently zombies are no threat and don't make you afraid

ps. i know its not easy and we have to wait for the big AI pathfinder fix. I would like to see a few more regular tweaks than just leaving them broke until when Q3, or Q4 this year?? its a long way to wait.,

I really appreciated the recent update- Melee requiring a headshot to kill..Why doesnt the same system work for fire arms? I can shoot a zombie in the toe with a pistol and it dies...thats ridiculous, head shots only please

Not expecting much anymore.

Current team is not capable of ever going past alpha status.

The only thing I can safely assume: the forums still will be full of fanboys shouting "alpha!" at each other.

Well thats safe to say is bullshit, the team has good financial backing and has set realistic goals to be done with the beta and into full release by end of 2014/start of next year

I hope by Christmas we will have already all the good stuff!

-Animals, hunting and cooking

-Vechicles

-Persistant tents, backpacks and stashes

-Zombie AI pathfinding, increased ZOmbies, and zombie respawn

-Respawning Loot

-Private servers with lots of different options

Why is everyone calling them zombies, they are infected humans.

So fix infected humans, reduce their speed a little, add shitload more. Reduce loot by half, and I'm happy

because some of us like zombie culture, and call them zombies. The Z in DAY Z Stands for ZOMBIE in my world, i dont care if you think their infected, each to their own opinion

You will, i'll be around, doubt you will be. My group is looking forward to getting a private server around that time, so I'll come back and invite you if you havent pissed off to the latest FPS Craze

The most important thing to fix is the lagg and and stuttering of the game.

This is the most important thing to do along with zombie walking accross walls and can't going up the stairs.

Yeah defiantly walking through walls. And since the new update ive got a pretty slow laptop that runs the game at like 15 fps and I cant get the headshots with the zombies, its a good feature but I think they need to fix the lag and everything else first.

while your system is probably in part to blame, I recently got a really nice sysetm and it still stutters in cities. its the current build man.

i feel dayz is going to either:

die due to h1z1, forest and breaking point arma 3

or

the devs will finally move at a better pace and show some bloody progress

BP is fucking tits, they even created a new map from scratch with all enterable buildings etc, releasing in a week or so...i mean come on...they are university students working in their free time ... for free and its already #2 mod for arma 3...

h1z1 time will tell, but out of the box they will have a better setup than SA currently has with potential for larger maps and more players and less lag/desync...arleady proven and implemented

like wholey fuck the next 3 months are going to make or break SA.

It wont die because of H1Z1, I'm not going to take anything away from H1 because I haven't played it (recent stream looked pretty good though) but I think there will be major differences between the two that will cater to different people. Dayz I think will be much deeper and more hardcore with detailed health and disease systems and stamina compared to H1Z1 which they said in stream probably wont have limb damage and looks like you just heal with med kits like typical games.

Also the style and settings are pretty different for example some like myself prefer the russian setting over yet another american setting.

Breaking point and 2017 are just mods which will have there limits, and can not be compared to creating a game from scratch.

Personally ill give both games ago but I already prefer Dayz, Theres still a LOT of time for improvement and content.

On a side note the RV engine is extremely impressive and anyone who says otherwise is talking utter shit. Sure it has its issues as does the Forgelight engine both are impressive though and have there own strengths.

Oh and I cannot fucking wait for The forest.

Because in the Rezzed video, on a couple of slides, they are actually called zombies.

anyway, what I would like to be confirmed by the end of the year or put in place.

1 - Fixed zombies,

2 - More zombies and hordes.

3 - Different strengths of zombies, fast and weak, slow and powerful, better animations on attacks, crawlers, lungers etc...

4 - Hunting

5 - Camping

6 - Less food spawns

7 - Slow vehicles, bicycles at most.

8 - Island cities

9 - Agriculture

10 - Cooking and recipes.

11 - Character spawns with severe hunger and thirst (not being able to run to the other side of the map without drink and food)

12 - Barricading

13 - More designs of houses, apartments etc...

14 - Character customization, beards, height, weight, hairstyles,

15 - Larger populated servers

Sadly i think DayZ is sort of a victim of it's own success.

Many people who played the mod for a long time heard there was going to be an SA. First thought 'Awesome and optimized and polished version of what we love'. Thats not the direction rocket has chosen tho. I really feel that this total re-invention of every single aspect of the game play, balancing, and mechanics is both overly ambitious, and even if they pull it off many who love the mods fo what it is will find almost no parallel in the SA and be bitter of having purchased it in the hopes of a "refined version of dayZ mod".

The game has great potential. They could do a LOT with it. It however, is not the same animal that wen viral several years ago and that we all fell in love with.

This is SO true.  You basically described me.  I started playing the MOD 2 years ago, moved on to EPOCH and was really excited for SA.

Let me just say that I work in the software industry, particularly in an agile dev environment, so believe me when I tell you I understand "alpha" but I am so disappointed with SA on so many levels.

I absolutely HATE the direction Rocket seems to be going with it and after almost 2 years of development the state the game was in when they released the alpha was mind blowing to me.  Even more shocking than that is the speed (or lack there of) that they have been progressing so far.

Everyone keeps screaming "alpha" but the truth is this isnt an alpha.  What happened here was a kind of venture capital start-up financed by a paid so-called alpha release... this isn't an alpha this is pre-alpha development.

Hopefully the announcement and showing of H1Z1 will be the boot to make them work that extra bit harder. You'd think almost 31million dollars would help the development speed up.

Really shouldn't care one way or the other what dayz does when H1Z1 comes out. H1Z1 is going to blow this game out of the water.

Edit: Plus its going to be free to play

That could be a bad thing depending on how they handle monetization.  I would prefer to pay a monthly subscription than have pay-to-win in a game.

But yes I agree, H1Z1 has the backing to wtf pwn-sauce DayZ SA.  On the other hand Sony has been known to shit all over what should have been pure gold... see Star Wars Galaxies.

Hizzy will be great when it comes out, probably the best game ever. Will definitely set bench marks in gaming the like we have never seen before. More than likely move into beta in week one and then with zombies, animations and everything else perfect i expect we will be looking at a week two full release polished game.

If I see even 4 of the list you posted (besides 6 and 11, which can be done in a few hours), I will be impressed.

At this rate you will see maybe 2 of these features working by q3, maybe 4 by q4. Notice how I said working. They might have all of them by q4 but they will be so broken.

There should never be any kind of timer. I'm not going to play for 2 days waiting to die I'd just kill myself. Infection should be like 28 days later. You get bit, you get infected. You get a black death screen whilst your AV is taken over by the AI, does a human changing to infected animation then joins the rest of the zed server population.

Yes Zeds need to be harder and in EVERY zombie film one bite and ur fucked. Why is Rocket being such a pussy about this?

Oh and H1Z1 is just a rip off of the bird flu virus, H1N1 and N is like a Z but turned over.
