"the run" ((what would you have done?))

Recommended Posts

so to start, i met with these guys at stary and we got along pretty well. i had full m4 and all that jazz unlike them who had just some beans to go around and maybe a aphibia or two. in short, we were headed to the northeast airfeild and a group of 6 all in a clan show up, most of them sporting mosins. i know from experience that if used properly mosin will beat m4 hands down, so i said we should not engage and just move away, however they wanted to confront them and try to rid of them, well at first it sounded alright but when we engaged they quiclky saw us and shot back. well, me being the most heavily geared they looked to me to do the job, and i froze up. they closed in and i left them and bolted like no other.. im pretty sure they died or were held up.. im not sure but i lived... but i feel guilt for leaving those guys behind. so what would you have done in that situation?

Guilt is what gets you killed, you did the right thing. If you are outnumbered like that it dosn make sense to let yourself get killed. The bambis who died, tryd to go full-gear with fists, dying is a risk there were willing to take in this encounter.

That's why I don't team up with randoms. I prefer being a lone wolf and taking decisions for myself.

I wwouldn't have engaged by the way. Not yet. I would have tried to stalk them and see if I could pick out one or 2 of them while they are alone.

I would of used the ungeared guys as bait and set up an ambush, and if neccessary, died fighting

I would have died with honor, like a samurai.

Probably not actually, but I would have at least tried to get them out of there instead of just ditching them.

Also any gun can counter any gun if used properly, you probably had the upper hand if you were in close range as well so I don't see the problem there.

Courage, honor, sacrifice.  These words have something in common; they mean nothing if you're dead.

"Oh, I'm a hero!"  fap fap fap

"I'm a sneaky bandit!" fap fap fap

"I'm an explorer and take selfies near trees!" fap fap fap

Trying to lend a helping hand, trying to get better gear, trying to see the world, Humbug I say!  Self-improvement is masturbation:  Nobody else cares but you wish they did.  Self-preservation is where it's at.  Alive or dead, no room for improvement.

Me?  I'm a survivor.

I completly agree with the above statement. Being a hero is about helping people, not getting yourself killed for no good reason.

I would have done the same as you :P No need getting killed off because of randoms.. you all should have stayed way clear.. but if they want to die fighting let them, don't get pulled into it.

Now if it were clan mates that is a whole other scenario.. but they were not :P

If that was me, and randoms with 2 amphibias wanted to attack 6 guys geared with mosins.... Uhm honestly, i would have shot the randoms, and ran out of there as fast i can.... Why? 1 m4 against 6 mosins would be suicide... Even if it were just two mosins it would still be not in your favor... 6 barrels firing at the same time beats your automatic any day... Specially if theyre in a clan and on team speak... 1st rule of lone wolfing is, never engage a group, if you must engage a group, make sure you kill them all at one go...

thanks guys for commenting, I guess the general census is that people are either "yeah it was good" or "it was wrong to leave them" which is what makes is kinda neat to find out how people play in this game :).

This, I will always go it alone, yeah I'd see a stranger and help him if he needed it, but teaming up with someone, not a chance, it's the internet, wouldn't trust anyone.

Find your own moral compass and if it changes from night to night, so be it.

People forget this is a game, it's meant to be FUN. If fun is killing freshies down the coast so be it, if it is helping the less fortunate then so be it, if it is ruling NEAF like a boss then so be it.

I can just imagine your newly found friends faces as they charged into battle, confident their geared up hard as nails new pal was going to swing the odds in their favour, only to see you running in the opposite direction :o

& then you on here pondering what horrible things happened to them that fateful day because of your cowardice...

Beans for cheering me up and giving me a good laugh

i wouldve done the same thing. If everyone was all geared then it would be another story, but it sounds like you only had a decent gun. so a 1v6 is never fun. Even if those dudes u were with had pistols.. At that range it doesnt matter. They had the advantage with the mosins at range. Seeing is that you gave them good advice and they didnt take it, then i wouldve left and let them learn their lesson. Its good to help people but its not good to get into firefights without some type of rifle.

also i wouldnt have been with them that long. When i encounter players. Ill just talk for a sec or 2 then say bye and run off.(if i dont get shot at) I wont group with randoms at all. Ill help them but not group. Maybe when we get all get persistant items then ill try to find the regulars on the server and be cool with them. When you find that 1 server to make a camp. Would be cool then to make friends in your adventures. Till then i just avoid people lol

Well, I would've started by prob avoiding those randoms haha.

I've found that randoms always get me into deep shit, so I avoid them unless I'm holding them up or they need help.

You didn't do anything wrong, I wouldn't have fought them either, a group that size kitted out in the way you mentioned vs. you and your two random friendlies wouldn't have done so great, you guys might have taken out maybe two of them, and that's only if your group got the drop on them, but since they seen you first, and mosins being as deadly as they are, you wouldn't have made it out alive.

It sounds correct.

You are not a hero in this game.
They are not your comrades or brothers in arms.
There is no enemy in a grande battle for honour.

Life actually means something in DayZ compared to all these other shooters.

I think I would have tried to assist (from a safe point/cover perhaps), but would not have taken stupid risk (as they obviously did).
I guess the fact that you survived tells that you made a good call there.

Nothing shameful in doing the runaway. It will let you live to fight another day. Even King Arthur knew this:
