Is the CR75 actually a CZ75? It doesn't look like it :/

Recommended Posts

Okay. Every thread I see everyone refers to the CR75 as the "CR/CZ 75". I understand yes that there is no such gun as the CR75 and that looks and sounds very similar to the CZ75 which also happens to match BIS's tendency to use Czech guns which obvs makes sense.

BUT what doesn't add up is that the CR75 model we have in game doesn't look anything like the CZ75 that I saw on google / wiki.. Can someone please confirm to me that this

is not the same as this?

i believe its called that due to it being different. Different back end. Different barrel. I would rename if it i made such upgrades.

But then is the gun we have in game a fictional gun? They don't seem to have done this at all yet with the weapons (other than the names just for copyright reasons)

It's not modeled after a stock CZ 75. Much in the same way that the 1911 isn't modeled after a vanilla M1911 (it's modeled after a Kimber Warrior).

It's modeled after the CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow. Albeit a modified one, as the model in-game appears to have a threaded barrel, which does not come standard from CZ.

i dont believe a gun has copyright #1 but i could be wrong. But i dont think the CR75 is not fictional weapon. But keep in mind this is not factual. This isn't set in stone information.

You can't copyright a firearm. You can patent a design.

Surely the name is copyrighted or patented? Isn't CZ like they're branding? I'm really not an expert on this, I come from UK and so never involved myself with firearms in real life.

Of course the name is protected

You can even trademark the shape

Actually, also what's to say Czech intellectual property rights aren't different from those in the US? CZ is in reference to their name https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C4%8Cesk%C3%A1_zbrojovka_Uhersk%C3%BD_Brod

So how would any other gun manufacturer be allowed to make their own "CZ 75" surely that would just be outright breach of copyright? And so how could Bohemia just come and use their name without permission?

So then surely this is the reason they could not call it the CZ 75 and had to make up "CR 75". If they were to actually in game write CZ that would be using someone else's branding, no?

CZ is copyright, yes. I was thinking in terms of branding designation, like "M16" or "M4A1." You're completely right and I'm a silly, silly person. >.> Sorry.

In DayZ, CZ (Ceska Zbrojovka) is Chernaruska Zbrojovka. So, they could've called it CZ still, but it's a fictional company making the CR 75. So, in the real-world, CZ is comprised of two words, whereas CR in DayZ appears to just represent "Chernaruska."

Not sure if they wanted to do that due to copywright, or they were just being cutesey with the fiction, or they wanted to incorporate some of the discrepancies (i.e. an apparently threaded barrel) from the real-world CZ 75 SP-01 SHADOW into the fiction.

Everytime some one gets in a panic over a gun not being exactly right just refer to this song.

I don't mind it, as it just goes to show that they're taking liberties with weapons already in terms of the fiction. And these weapons have not been the brunt of the "immersion breaking" complaints. So the futility in applying pure real-world circumstance to fictional-ass Chernarus is exposed.
