A Stretch for Cars but Maybe one Day?!?

Recommended Posts

Okay this came to me in a dream, unrealistic..? Maybe for now but it would be super cool.

To start, this isn't another post about cars belonging to a person and not the server, thats just silly.

Just hear me out, crazier things have been implemented before. Assume all cars have been fixed fully before we begin.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.  Okay when cars are spawned, there's a small chance the keys are in the ignition.. Lucky duck to who finds that!

2.  However the doors are still locked... Bastard locked his keys in his car before he died.

3.  Whatever just smash the window right? easy fix.

4.  BEEP!BEEP!BEEP!WEEWOOWEEWOOBEEP!BEEP!BEEP! (Sh*t!)

5.  Cars have alarms... On an empty server it'll attract zeds from a radius that the alarm can be heard. On a packed server, youll attract some Bandies from the same radius.

6.   No worries, the keys are in the ignition, remember? Vroom you start up your car, the alarms no longer on and your on           your way. Congrats! The key serves as a lock for your new baby. You'll need a new window though.

But remember, only a small percentage has this luxury.

1-5, with the exception of 2 are the same; find a car, look in the ignition (nothing this time) smash the window, alarm goes off, but now what?

1.   You're going to need proper tools, lets say for this you'll need:

a)pliers - already in game - for all those wires

b)skrewdriver - already in game - you'll need to jam this bugger in the ignition to service as your key

c)hotwire kit - new - for obvious reasons

2.   Seems easy right?? Well the alarms been going off this whole time, and every zombie/Bandy in the area are running to         you now.

3.   Finally! The car starts up and Vroom! You're outta there.

The second section would also serve as a guide to breaking into someones car that is parked whilst he is looting or logged off with the keys. And just think of the chaos that'd start, say someone parked and locked their car in electro to go food shopping..whatever.. and all of a sudden they hear their alarm... That'd make for a good firefight over the car. Also a keykit could be put in to make your car properly yours.

From the get-go parts of the game have been setup so you need a buddy, with the hopes of eliminating KOS altogether. A very ambitious goal, but it'll be pretty tough to take a car in a high pop area or even in a town with zombs without someone who's covering you as you hotwire it ect.

Just a thought, my first idea, i looked around a little bit before but didn't see anything this in depth. Sorry if i stole your idea!

I have no problems with keys and alarms. Keys were in the mod as well as key making kits, where it was lacking was if you lost the key the car was useless. So having a hot wire or making a key from the barrel of the car would fix this.

Its a great idea, also when hotwiring a car, it should take at least a minute to start it, enough time to gather zombies around. It should definetly be "is it worth risking my life taking that car?" situation.

Im not a big fan of any vehicles, however cars are on their way, so please make them rare, and all should be in such a bad shape it would take a long time to repair it?

Your point?

The fact that something was in Breakingpoint doesn't really make it more likely to be in. And honestly, keymaking kits would be next-to-impossible to find, they just had an abundance in Breakingpoint because it was focused much more on roleplaying and combat.

Oh so you have no point... nice thanks for coming. I never said that because it was in breaking point that it would be in SA, your comprehension skills are second to none. lol

So complicated.

How about this;

-Killing zombie (previous owner) closest to car spawns key.

-Unlock and start vehicle.

-Drive off.

My point was as follows; you stated that it was "in the mod" )It was not.) My response was pointing that out.

Mindlessly insulting me because you fail to understand my point takes you nowhere. Besides, your grammar skills are second to none.

If you're breaking forum rules, I am too, whether I get banned or not.

I agree with a lot of stuff people are saying:

- As far as cars being rare and in really bad shape, definatly. Cars should be something worth sounding an alarm off for and risking your skin. The only reason why i said the cars were fully fixed is because i didn't want people to bring up "well even once youve broken in you still wont be able to go anywhere!" Very true, but the original point of this post wasnt fixing cars and how that should work, the point is there should be more of a risk while taking a newly spawned car or someones car. But as far as newly spawned cars, yes make em in bad shape.

- Concerning the hotwire kit taking a minute or so to boot up I agree! Maybe like a luck thing, sometimes it takes a minute, other times it takes two or three. Hotwiring the car should leave you exposed to all enemies, zeds and players. Not only will this add the risk factor to breaking into or stealing a car, it'll also (hopefully) create a need for players working together to take a car, as one would need to hotwire while the other covers them from the zeds and players.

- Hotwire kits and keymaking kits should be very rare, or at least extremly rare to find in pristine. Only ones in pristine condition should have a 100% chance of working. That way people trying to use a worn kit on a car run the risk of it not working

as far as the zed closest idea.. Meh.. Too easy! That defeats the purpose for sounding the alarm altogether, seeing as you can just kill the zed with a melee and unlock the car going unnoticed. The idea for the alarms is a good/fun one because (hopefully) finding a car will be tough as is, and this will make actually getting away with your car really hard.

Cars in the mod were too simple, and lacked the risk that there would be in a real scenario to take. Adding more parts to fix is great, and i always thought about that back in the mod days, for instance "what are the chances the battery would still be alive?" or "what about exhaust components? making the car louder to zombs if say the flex pipe was rotted out." Which is a whole new can of worms/ a kinda good idea that goes along with car alarms being heard and stuff.

Again any other ideas to add on to this, fire away, and if you think the idea is a bad one tell me! and tell me why you think so.

Thanks for reading

While I like some parts of your idea I have to say that I think car alarms should be left out. One reason being older vehicles seldom have alarms, and the other reason is that there are plenty of other ways to make it really really hard to get the car anyway. Consider for example the following scenario:

You find a car, but x number of tires are flat, the battery is dead, and sparkplugs need changing. Also there is no fuel. Since you're not carrying more than one tire at a time, nor more than one battery at a time, and maybe two cans of fuel, if you're alone this means you will have to travel back and forth to the car no less than 2+x times as a bare minimum. So, now add to this the time it would take you to find the components. Fuel needs a container to be carried in, but say you settle for the one can of fuel so that's one run to and from a fuel source with a jerry can. Perhaps you can use water bottles and canteens or maybe even a cooking pot to carry the fuel, but the water bottles will not be good for water afterwards and the cooking pot will take up both your hands while you carry it, and a mechanic can be added to make you spill a little fuel if using the cooking pot so that you only get a fraction of the fuel to the car. Now find a working battery, carry that heavy bastard to the car, then find a tire and carry that to the car. Then find sparkplugs. What if those are rare? Either way, say you undertake this whole mission to fix the car. What says that someone else already carrying the last missing component doesn't get there and repair it before you? Or simply spot you traveling back and from the car all those times and decide to ambush you?

Alright, assume you manage to fix the car at the bare minimum. You now have a weak battery, and a 10% full tank of fuel. So, you get onto the hotwiring (and I'd say skip the hotwire kit. It's not that hard to hotwire older car models. Newer ones are a different matter), and for that you need some tool to break open part of the dashboard, some tool to cut the wires, and then duct tape to insulate the wires so they don't blow a fuse from touching some other wire connections behind the dashboard. This would take a couple of minutes. So, once you're done with that if someone hasn't seen you already (zombie or person) you're lucky. Now comes the exciting part. Have you ever considered how loud the starting engine on an older car model is? Remember that weak battery you put in? It's gonna take a couple of tries to get the engine started. During that time you will be making a lot of noise.

If you still manage to survive all this without getting killed you can drive off. I'd say there's no need for car alarms. Also, all of the above makes this hard to do on your own, so it should definitely be a group effort.

In closing, I'd like to add the suggestion that they put something similar to this into the game (rare item of course):

It works such that the driving gas in the can fills the tire, but it also sprays a mix of solvent and sealant into the tire, so that when the tire spins it coats the inside. This is no permanent fix however. It only allows you to drive a short distance, say to a repair shop. Or in this case, out of the hot zone and into a garage to hide or something like that. :)

good idea, please go post it on the official list. we don't need tons of individual suggestions, we made an official list for a reason. If you could post it there, then it can officially be added. Thanks.

One think that could make it interesting is, about that with a zombie carrying the key. You could make so that sometimes it happens. But maybe the zombie is on the other side of the town. You kill it and find a key. Hmm this might fit in to the car? It would make it fun to explore the town to find the key. And maybe there is no key. Then you searched the town unnecessarily and you just wasted your time.
