DayZ on MAC?

Recommended Posts

Nothing has been confirmed, but they have mentioned a few times that they want to port the game over to other operating systems once the windows version is finished.

Using bootcamp myself with a Windows 7 install on a separate SSD, previous gen Mac Pro. Should be fine with good framerate on a recent-ish iMac or MacBook Pro too.

Better than waiting for a port, which probably won't happen until full release.

This, except I'm running it on a Retina MBP.  The frame rates aren't bad if you tweak the settings that some of the guides on here mention.

Don't listen to the Mac haters - I used to be one of them, and then I got assimilated  ;)

Depends on the mac. Many high end PC's still have some issues at this point. To soon to tell IMO.

Topic Cleaned.

Don't get carried away and don't post useless stuff. This is not a discussion about whether Windows is superior or not.

I get the impression that the OP was asking about running the game on OS X, not Mac hardware, given the way he phrased it.

My Late '11 MacBook Pro w/ 16GB RAM and an SSD runs it on "Normal" settings across the board just fine with an acceptable FPS. I'm by no means totally unable to play the game on max settings either, it's just incredibly choppy. This is all at the native 1680x1050 resolution, for the record.

Make sure you adjust your power savings options, and graphics card options if it has two in it. Also you may or may not get some more fps out of this guide: http://dayzintel.com/dayz-standalone/dayz-standalone-performance-guide

I've already done everything on that page that doesn't directly relate to graphics, as my game runs just fine on normal or higher settings without needing to limit draw distance and what not.

As for the power saver & graphics card options... does that apply to Windows? My understanding is that Boot Camp by default uses the discrete GPU (not the integrated graphics). I also don't think there are any power options affecting my gaming either, the thing absolutely guzzles power while I'm playing (yes I keep it plugged in, duh).

I'd love a Mac port, I'm sure they will once the game is released or maybe in late beta.

I wouldn't hold your breath, it would be the first Bohemia title to have a Mac version.

To avoid disappointment wait for official word from the devs and don't make assumptions.

You'd think if they were going to port it to Xbox/Playstation they'd do OSX as well. But we will have to see haha.

I don't think a Mac version would be quite profitable when it's already possible for Mac users to play via BootCamp but we'll see. I'm not saying it won't happen, but don't get your hopes up until it's confirmed by the devs.

Take a look at whats playing on an Apple via Steam. With that said, DayZ will never be playable on the Apple side…only Bootcamp/Win.

I run bootcamp and windows 7 on my macbook pro 15", I also have my main gaming rig that has windows. Of course my main gaming rig runs better, but the game runs decent on my macbook with bootcamp, if this helps. It's nice to be able to play the game when away from home.
