Marlin 1894C [SA Weapon Suggestion]

Recommended Posts

But Chernarus (where DayZ plays, and that not real exist) is not in Czech.

They only used a location in czech as an example for terrain villages/cities and streets.

there was a war in chernarus involving the USMC. Some of which were using M4A1s.

I don't think DayZ and ARMA 2 plays in one dimension. I think DayZ SA plays in the real world because we have UN Barrett's/Helmets, that would also explain why we have M4's.

There's CDF and Chedaki berets and in the predominantly russian north there's Chedaki roadside posters. I would say its pretty safe to say its the same universe; maybe an alternate universe where ARMA 3 doesn't happen.

I want to remind everyone that even in STALKER, half the guns are of western origin. It even has an AR-15 variant, so this occidentophobia is really unwarranted. :/

Pretty sure it does.

Don't forget, Chernarus had it's own UN force.

I would rather see an 1866 TBH. Neither fit the setting (Which is actually, in the real world, is Turkey) but the 1866 is a DayZ classic. Currently in the mod, it does 8900dmg and has an extremely high knock-out chance, fires extremely fast, is quiet... it's a beast i often drop an AK for when i'm looting a city. It would probably be my main weapon of it were in.

The original 1866 uses unique ammunition which you won't find in any gun store. And the .44-40 reproductions are almost as bad. The 1866 reproductions now also come in .38 Special and .45 Colt but NOT in .357 Magnum due to the brass frame, so again another ammunition type would be required. There were some reproductions made with steel receivers in .357.

Anyways about the 8900 damage, absolutely no respect was paid no respect to the gun's ballistics... the rifle is not very powerful to begin with, it fires what is a pistol-sized, pistol-power cartridge, and all original ammunition and also much of modern ammunition is loaded with solid lead slugs which would just put a .44 caliber hole in someone. The damage should have been closer to the pistols and not equal or superior to the rifles.

You can do it with anything actually, even with chupa-chups

Pics or it didn't happen.

Also, I think a .357 is a good choice.

I'm not too worried as to what lever action is added as long as it makes a little bit of sense and gets a few customisation options.

I'd like to express that I don't think this gun should be common and would rather see some bolt actions like the CZ 550 added first.

I think this would be a great addition , I suggested this on ctorchias twitter but didnt see the silver version til after. seeing as it looks civilian enough and im sure can't be an overpowered choice , and after all it inspires us westerners to keep on lookin for that cowboy carbine ;)..

confirmed !

not really confirmed, but highly possible.

Though I dunno, i the 357 will have enough stopping power to dish out

not that I want to go and kill/PvP, but it's good to have a reliable weapon

(But I like the fact, that I could, i I wanted to ;))

If this comes, we need to be able to saw it off then and the velocity/accuracy should also increase with the barrel length.

The devs have made it clear on multiple occasions that they do influence the background of the country heavily on the Czech Republic, even though the land is not exactly where the CZR is.

They do indeed... Chernarussians speak Czech. They should not be looking entirely to the Czech Republic for weapons though, they have to consider it is not Czech. If someone says "Czech army uses vz. 58 and some CZ 805" they are ignoring that the Chernarussian army uses old AK-74s and has no special forces...

I always assumed the M4A1s are supposed to come from US or international forces who maybe intervened with the infection. Whatever. I do not have a problem with them including M4 Carbines. It is a common weapon, it should simply be a rare find to reflect the fact it is not standard issue for the country's army.

But that doesn't explain all the aftermarket attachments... or why none of them spawn with optics... or the strange 10, 20 and 40 round magazines in barracks... anyways, forget the backstories. We know the reason some of this stuff is there.

Process 1:

1. Think of cool stuff which I like

2. Add them

and Process 2:

1. Think of the most fitting items regardless of what I happen to like

2. Add them

The reason is Process 1.

You have a point, I too have questioned their choice of content of even stuff that fits (For example, the Yugo SKS over an actual Siminov), but when people start to think that any western influence is impossible that's where I have a problem.

It's just falling victim to the same thing other video games do; they get the base idea for content right and then screw it up when they try to go in-depth (Like taking any AK variant and slapping the name "AK-47" on there, but never the precious "AK-74u") or, in this case, using the Kimber 1911, CZ-75 SP-01, FNX-45 and AWC Amphibian S variants of their guns instead of the standard M1911A1, standard CZ-75, standard FNP and standard Ruger MKII which aren't all awful weapons choices (Maybe the FNP, but I digress).

Not an excuse, but a moot point anyway, I don't think there's any fixing it (because the devs hardly take advice from the forums) and I'm against them removing stuff from the game unless it's so badly bugged that it needs to be fixed urgently or detracts from the overall gameplay to an extreme beyond just immersion breaking.

The soon-to-come P-1 (P-38) may be the first pistol that actually makes sense, on a lighter note. (Even though the P-1 was not spread around as much)

We have been over this one before.  If you desperately want a lever action in game, there is no reason not to have one.  But since there is one and only one logical choice, let's have it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winchester_Model_1895

The Russian government imported over 300,000 of these; they were mostly transferred to troops in "provincial" areas, such as Chernarus would have been.  They were chambered for the standard Mosin round, and even came with a bayonet.

No reason to go for a pistol-caliber in a commercial lever gun, when one can actually be in line with the back story.  Problem solved.

Yup.  It really is the only logical candidate to fill that slot.  I just hope the Dev Group is paying attention.

It really is the only logical candidate to fill that slot.

From a gameplay perspective:

-a .357 lever-action is the obvious choice to share .357 ammunition while providing a difference from handguns and other rifles

-the 1895 in 7.62x54R provides no tangible differences from a Mosin apart from slightly faster operation

From a realism perspective:

-Russia ordering some a century ago does not change the fact the Russian 1895 is not a particularly common firearm nowadays

-if this was a US map I would not consider adding a Krag, despite the fact it was the service rifle for far longer at 11 years, and half a million of them were produced, because again, it is not particularly common nowadays, it does not "spring to mind" in the top 15, 25 or 40 firearms I would think of

-I don't find someone owning a pistol-caliber .357 carbine any more unbelievable than them owning an 1895 musket

If the devs were only choosing the 20 or 30 MOST suitable firearms they would not have considered EITHER of these. But a lever-action is coming anyways. There's only one "good" reason for adding any type of lever-action at all, and that is to share the Python's .357 ammo. If they were only adding the 1895... why? What good reason for the 1895? Common, not at all. Different, hardly, aesthetics mainly. Makes more use of the Mosin's ammo, nope, plenty of firearms to do that and the 7.62 needs no help.

So that's it. The .357 carbine confirmed.

Hm, Gews.

You say, that the 1895 wouldn't be common in Russia.

So I ask, would the Marlin, the M4, the FNX be "common"...?

TBH; I don't know this. But I highly doubt it..

The 1895 would also be "the obvious" choice for sharing ammo with the Mosin...

Pls correct me, i I'm wrong, but the FNX and 1911 use the same ammo, don't they?

 2 pistols share the ammo.

So why not 2 rifles?

While I prefer the 1895 over the Marlin, I'd be OK with the Marlin, if:

  • we could saw it off and place it in the/a holster
  • the bullet velocity would increase as you and many YT-videos described it (and with it the "damage" done)
  • => longer barrel => less dispersions + more velocity

Also, there should be "various" attachments then, like a stock pouch or ironsights and scopes

Like I said neither of these lever-actions would be "common", I would rather none. But I would also rather no Python. The only reason for adding one would be gameplay, the .357 offers more. It's already practically confirmed.

  • the bullet velocity would increase as you and many YT-videos described it (and with it the "damage" done)

There is a problem with this, because at the current damage is 4500. Increasing velocity to the correct carbine levels would automatically increase the .357 damage to about 6700. Which is 33% more than the SKS, 90% more than the M4A1, and which would be a one-shot kill.

They can't increase the Python's damage without further increasing the .357 carbine's damage, which means people will complain the Python is no more powerful than the .45 autos.

At the same time they can't reduce the carbine's damage or people will complain the Python is too weak.

And they most certainly can't give the rifle the same velocity as the revolver because that would be an unrealistic arcade-balancing ballistic travesty, my stomach turns at the thought.

Dilemma.

So we have a big swamp of sadness and dilemma, because for the Marlin, the velocity (and in-game the dmg) need to be raised, but this would cause trouble with the python..

and that's, where the W1895 comes into play.

It uses the same ammo as the Mosin, and nothing would have to be changed then :>

If one took a random post-Warsaw Pact country, which(of the two mentioned) would one be more likely to find? Obviously, the one that the Russians/Soviets used and dispersed to satellites.  If we are going to have a lever-gun at all, it should not be something that is just commercially available in the US and a few other Western countries.  It is plausible that a hundred thousand, or even only fifty thousand, were left in Chernarus, with a few dozen findable on the map.  It is not plausible to find a few dozen Marlin brand lever guns in .357, guns that have only been available for the last 20 years or so.

The Magnum was necessary, I suppose, as it was the only handgun they had ready for the initial release.  I am hoping that any further introductions will at least make sense to be found in a post-Warsaw Pact country, rather than embarrassing the developers any further.
