Trust issues

Recommended Posts

Joined a 40 max server today and bumped into a player. We got chatting, he gave me a water bottle as I was very thirsty, near death even. We even chatted about how annoying it is when players kill one another for no reason. For a split moment I thought how awesome the game was until the player reappears from venturing outside and shoots me in the legs and then the head. What happened?

After being shot twice like this I'm slowly getting the hint lol

the problem is that 90% of "friendlies" will shoot you in the back given the chance, most only use that as a way to avoid being shot when cought or spotted first, welcome to the game where everyone is your friend untill you have something they want.

Its sad though as I don't want to find myself getting into the mentality of shooting on sight because most others did it too me. But hey ho, better re-spawn and try again

that's deep man haha. And despite the odd occasion of being betrayed in the game I have really enjoyed it

I just ran into a guy at an airfield with no weapon. Told him to leave and I wouldn't shoot him while he was wildly crying "don't shoot me! Please I'm friendly"

Then he ran off. Right to my friends on the other side of the airfield. They told him to leave too.

A couple of us ran out and he came back in with a 1911 pointed right at our friend that stayed in the jail. Caught it in time and nearly shot him before he made like a ninja and vanished.

This is why I don't trust people in this game.

That's the problem. People have the mentality of "trust no one in dayz". So they shoot on sight. Or they are that ass fresh spawn who decides to act friendly and kill you.

I have been a fresh spawn in elektro, and I spotted these 2 idiots prone crawling up the sniper hill in full camo thinking they were the shit and invisible.

You know what I did? Instead of fucking hitting them in the head like I should have according the the dayz community, I said hello, talked to them, then ran off.

Well I have to say, I haven't even had a chance to have trust issues, as I've been killed 4 times since I began playing a month ago and each and every one was by some KOS before I had the chance to say hello.

What happened is that you're not very good at viewing the situation from someone else's shoes.

As long as the person shooting you is a stranger, there is no such thing as "being killed for no reason".   There are all sorts of benefits they get from killing you, and thus there are many reasons to do it.

Don't attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by simple convenience.

And this is why the KoS/griefing mentality of Mod will continue in SA. This is why the community will fragment into private hives as soon as modding support is added. Rocket has shown time and time again that he is heavily influenced by the vocal minority and ignores his own vision. Without mechanics being added to influence teamplay and trust his whole plans for cooking, hunting and farming should just be scrapped as they won't be used.

But it's cool. As long as they add modding support and increase the max. server population to 150-250 people (like promised) the game will be saved.

Honestly, private hives would support any sort of gameplay that anyone wants.  I'm not too worried about it.

Sorry to go off-topic here, but am I the only sceptic at the prospect of modding in this game?

Don't get me wrong, I like and support the modding community by-and-large, but to me DayZ just doesn't need it (well... By the time it's finished).

Granted I never played the DayZ mod, but to me it all seemed like a step in a different direction.

Edit: On topic: Ever grouped with strangers? I don't think I've ever felt so happy with myself/anxious the whole way, the first time I 'grouped' with a bunch of randomers. Part of the fun IMO :).

Thats why I joined a clan asap.. so I have a group of people I can and do trust..

Though I already met some pretty friendly people, even one who gave me a pistol and gave me some tips and food.

I've had virtually no back stabbing encounters in  DayZ. I was back stabbed 2-3 times when I just started playing the mod. After that, I kept my eye on my new "friends" and I suspect that was what kept them from being tempted by an easy kill. Never let your guard down, don't give them a chance. Only consider them an actual friend when they're in your steam friend list. It helps.
