Caught a whole clan of people cheating(site mods, there's proof).

Recommended Posts

Hello,

First of all, I want to say, this isn't flaming. I'm not calling for any specific action. I am simply bringing some cheaters that are helping to spread exploits, and also recruiting on this forum to the attention of the site staff. As well as sharing my opinion. I was told by a forum mod to post this thread if I had real evidence. Which I do. So read on survivors.

So I have posted this here so that the site mods can clearly see, I caught the clan Sector 3, cheating while watching one of their twitch streams, then confronted them in their recruitment thread, where they admitted to it. I was recently told I should not have done that. Sorry about that, truly, I was only trying to help.

I hid my opinion on the matter to reduce tl;dr for people. Read it if you want to.

In my opinion, when you have spread item duping, and mag glitching around like Sector 3 has, an apology isn't enough. You have betrayed the entire community, not just the people you cheated against. You need to be made example of. Other cheaters should know that if you get caught, there will be consequences. It is my belief that cheating should be zero tolerance. I was recently a second chance kind of guy, but after arguing with the leader of S3 about this, I no longer feel that cheaters deserve any quarter. Apology or no.

This is because cheating, especially on the scale these guys were doing it, is like a virus. Every person that sees how, and learns that you can get away with it, will potentially pass it on, only for the cycle to continue ad infinitum.  From there it grows exponentially. That means these guys have potentially done untold damage to the DayZ community.

Now, you might argue that this is no big deal. That the devs will patch it eventually, and it will be a thing of the past. But it's not just about that. It's about the culture that is being created within the community while this is taking place. It creates players that just don't care if they ruin another persons experience, and undermine the game's overall success. This is alpha, imagine how big this problem could be by launch...  It is this rotting, viral, sub-culture within DayZ, that needs to be nipped in the bud when ever and where ever it rears it's ugly head.

The leader is completely unrepentant. He doesn't feel bad at all, never said he was sorry for his clan's behavior, and did nothing but make excuses and call me immature for calling them out. To which I responded... unfortunately. Read through the whole argument if you want to know why I say this. It's long though, and is beside the point. The real meat and potatoes here is the confession. That should be all anyone needs to see.

I am reporting that confession, in the hopes that something can be done about it.

Here's the confession. Written out, right on their recruitment thread, for all to see.

imo cheating in an alpha test = GTFO.  Just ban them until full release...  They are clearly not capable of handling an alpha or beta test w/o resorting to ego driven cheating.

Ok. I agree with you to a certain extent. The problem is, I don't think they are ruining the experience for other players. Using hack tools/scripts that allow you to run faster or teleport or insta-kill all while being invincible ruin other players' game experience.  Duping a few mags is bad but doesn't warrant a perma-ban for the whole clan in my opinion.

Duping is a huge exploit. Hacked mags are as bad, if not worse. Keeping those hacked mags, and then duping them, is the same (in my eyes) as the hack that created the hacked mag in the first place.

Dupers, cheaters, exploiters, scripters and hackers should all be punished for their abuse.

This can easily escalate to the point they'll get hacks and cheat. He doesn't even feel bad about it...

We need a Ban hammer on this please. Such behavior is intolerable. You did good.

Yup! that's pretty much how I feel as well, while doing things such as dupeing is part of testing*, duping and entire kit of gear X times over and a hacked mag instead of dumping it somewhere to disappear is a long way past the line there is no excuse for this sort of behavior.

*a simple test to see if its still there and not keeping the duped items

Remember to not post exploits and not ask for them to be posted, even if you think it'd be funny or just mean it as a joke.

Ok. I didn't read the whole post comprehensively. Duping hacked mags is fucking horrible. Ban them all.

It wasn't just that night according to one of their own members. This is a new confession to add to the old one. Now there are two. Here's that post.

These guys are habitual, and the night I caught them, they were 10 or more, with perfect, duped gear, beating down a team of 5. So it wasn't just a few mags, it was an entire teams worth of gear. guns, food, clothing, ammo, everything. For a whole crew of dudes. I'd say that s ruining the experience for others for sure, and according to the new confession, not the first time they did this.

Duping items seems to be as bad as any other hacks. Albeit it seems to be an exploit of the game rather than a third party script or program but still it is an exploit.

On the post here itself, the problem it has is that it highlight the exploit in question which many wouldnt have known until now ... :/

I was not sir.  I am rarely a fresh spawn. :D Usually found nowhere near the coast. I know better. But I do use the same name for both the game and this forum. Anybody else is a pretender. ;)

Next question is, is there anything being done about this? I don't mind if it takes a little to get it done but I feel there should be some repercussions to their actions as this is clearly a beyond testing, goes against the spirit of the game and letting them off will encourage people to do/spread these kinds of exploits as they know that nothing will be done about it.

You do realise that to some extent the firestorm over it isn't helping. All your doing is publicising a clan that knows how to dupe....watch there recruitments inbox triple now.

I know duping is bad, but we all know its out there. The best defence is most peoples ignorance to how its done.

Ever heard the phrase "theres no such thing as bad publicity" ;)

This is the eternal debate. I feel ya. I'm never sure what to do on this. I decided that in the end, it is better to set an example for potential cheaters, than try to keep them from getting the info to cheat. If they really want it, they are gonna get it anyway, IMHO.

Yes there is that, the other consideration is can anyone here actually do anything? I don't know, after a bit of thought the only thing that strikes me is a formal complaint lodged against the twitch channel.

Deletion of the clan thread and the banning of it's owners?

And this is a clear and prime example of an individual who boasts a standard of impeccable morals over his sinful counterpart at S3 claiming authority to pass judgement over morally insignificant individuals, can anyone say ironic?

To answer your question, no, I do not believe Bohemia has the power to do anything to anyone who cheats/exploits/hacks.  That's all up to the server hosting site.  Which then makes me wonder why would they design a game that's online that they have no power over?

Except they wont get banned or anything? All we can hope is that the exploit is removed asap now.

Seriously, Guppy and Prime, you are not the authoritarian police of the Dayz community, there are no laws or moral standards in this game other that your personal and subjective opinions(which if you realize hold no grounds for accusation or persecution). I agree it is a reprehensible crime against my standard Dayz of ethics to run clan wide item exploiting and on top of that make the claim of hard work and diligence as public advertisement which is in fact fraudulence and cheat, you dont see me proclaiming to the forum the evil of other people like i was some white knight.

You know what f* it yeah flame S3 and the leader lets see the guys clan's popularity fall and fall.

Vegeta. what does the Dean hall say about his power level.

After 9000 years in development we hope you enjoy our alpha.
