hannibaldaplaya 1095 Posted April 1, 2014 The more ammo, the more guns, the better. I want tons of guns, tons of calibers, and a good amount of pockets to carry all those rounds.
Katana67 2907 Posted April 1, 2014 I'm not sure why so many people are in favor of limiting the variety in DayZ. Different types of rounds, rare/specialist rounds, make it easier to balance so-called "high-end" weapons through ammunition/magazine rarity. Although, it may not be worthwhile to do given the amount of development (although Torchia and the modelers seem to be pretty efficient), it would make balance-through-rarity much easier. As opposed to finding a box of 7.62x51 which can fit into hunting rifles, battle rifles/designated marksman rifles, bolt-action sniper rifles, and general-purpose machine guns. Moreover, it's not like finding a random .338 LM round for your insert .338 LM rifle here is going to break immersion. If your concept of DayZ is one of pure realism or purely a realistic depiction of a post-Soviet state, then you have misconstrued what DayZ is (and reality as well). Not sure how to approach it. One could make weapons rare, one could make ammo rare. One could make ammo specific to a certain weapon class (i.e. having all "high-end" bolt-action sniper rifles be .338 LM). Perhaps a combination of all three.
Николай13 5 Posted April 13, 2014 (edited) The system is realistic, there will never be one caliber of weapon. But it does worry me that there are so many different calibers and magazines. I do however wish they would add a few more weapons that use the same round, like the Beretta M9 Pistol and the HK MP5 line of submachine guns. Also, if and when the Devs add the HK MP5, I hope they add the multiple variants of it or a way to swap parts. Edited April 13, 2014 by Николай13
DedicateDdos 50 Posted April 13, 2014 Puts a little extra pressure on gathering/looting, nothing beats holding up a fully geared guy with an empty gun getting the ammo you need from his backpack. So no I'm not worried.
Thaeggan 2 Posted April 13, 2014 (edited) It would be overwhelming to players to have a variety of 15-20 or more types of ammo. It might work well for some veterans who have played long enough to stay on top of it and for the real hardcore players. However, I can bet my life that the majority of players aren't fans of such variety. I have experience of playing game called Firefall that started out with 6 resource types for crafting. People liked the system but there were some who demanded more to fulfill their spreadsheet fetishes. Eventually crafting moved to 16 and the crafting side of the game died for everyone except the hardcore spreadsheet users. New users get overwhelmed and immediately turn off from the idea of crafting and quite often the game as well.crafting or bullets, too much of anything turns people off Edited April 13, 2014 by Thaeggan
gorvi 189 Posted April 13, 2014 As they begin to add more weapons is anyone worried we will see a similiar situation such as in the mods such as breaking point where there are too many different guns in too many different calibers. This leads to alot of the weapons being useless since there will never be ammo for them unless you find some with the weapon itself. Anyone hoping they continue to add weapons but in common calibers. I'm hoping to be able to break down unneeded ammo and use a reloading bench to make the type I need

gibonez 3633 Posted April 13, 2014 I'm hoping to be able to break down unneeded ammo and use a reloading bench to make the type I need That would be useful. Take out all the black powder out of shotgun shells , fill a pipe bomb with it. Make make shift ieds with them.
Katana67 2907 Posted April 13, 2014 (edited) Make make shift ieds with them. I really hope this is a factor when vehicles get introduced. Preferably not like the ARMA vehicle damage system where your vehicle just instantly starts burning and is useless from thereon. Blowing out tires, halving engine blocks, causing rollovers would be awesome. I don't want IEDs to just be guaranteed insta-death for vehicles. Having to get out after striking one, wounded, and defend your vehicle from ambushing players and rushing zombies would be a great experience for DayZ. But not sure if I'd necessarily want AP IEDs, I think loading powder for a breaching charge (i.e. when construction gets implemented) would be a better purpose for that. But not entirely opposed to it! Edited April 13, 2014 by Katana67

But not entirely opposed to it! That is the single reason why I wan't IEDS in the game. Set up a pipe bomb on the road, with a tripwire then lay on a nearby ambush point and lay down with a pkm or akm ready to ambush cars once they are disabled by the bomb. A pipebomb would not explode a car but instead probably pop its tires and disable it.

gorvi 189 Posted April 13, 2014 That would be useful. Take out all the black powder out of shotgun shells , fill a pipe bomb with it. Make make shift ieds with them. Smelting down bullets or scrap and finding/crafting bullet molds. Make casings somewhat less rare than live ammunition and allow players to retrieve any spent casings. Friend or foe. Black powder should be craftable by players, yet should take investment and preparation.(akin to making meth in Altis Life.) Something for the future. Deathlove 2286 Posted April 13, 2014 No in fact i think we need more ammo types latter on down the line including some of the none lethal plastic bullet types for pistols, ARs and shotguns. There is nothing wrong with multipurpose rounds. In fact i would almost say its unrealistic not to find different types of ammo rounds no matter how rare they are or tend to be. I understand they want to simplify things but the reality of guns is much more complex than SA gives it credit for atm.

I thought they already said there cannot be multiple different bullet types for a single weapon system Something about the game requires separate magazines for each bullet type or something.
