Anyone worried there will be too many ammo types ?

As they begin to add more weapons is anyone worried we will see a similiar situation such as in the mods such as breaking point where there are too many different guns in too many different calibers.

 

This leads to alot of the weapons being useless since there will never be ammo for them unless you find some with the weapon itself.

 

Anyone hoping they continue to add weapons but in common calibers.

Well from what iv read and seen it look like the rural AK is going to show it head which is a nice added weapon..hopefully they will try and keep the weapons and mags on the low side..would prefer to see some make shift guns myself as well

I'm worried about 100 other more game-killing things than ammo varieties. 

 

However, I wouldn't mind having to find the right ammo. Would add some sort of strategy into what you keep and what you discard. Do you keep your powerful gun with low ammo or discard it to pick up another gun that you have plenty of that ammo type for, etc.

I think its a good idea to have a variety, personally. Assuming they don't tone down the amount of ammo in the game, as this would make finding the right ammo nearly impossible. Once they add in all the weapons and ammo types, it will be much harder to find what type you need which will force social interaction to get what you need (i.e. high-risk trading). However, I think they have nearly exhaused their variety for pistol calibers though. I couldn't really see them adding in too many more types (except maybe .40 SW or 10mm).

I love the current system. They need to add some more ammo types, actually... Like HP rounds and such.

Nah, ammo variety is great.

 

Yea its great when it makes sense but would you really want to see a weapon in .454 casull and only one weapon that has this ammo

 

or some exotic wild cat cartridge ?

 

These types of guns just arent common so seeing these type of ammo types around would be weird.

I think it would be great. having knowledge of guns and the proper ammo for them should be important. Plus, imagine what putting the wrong  ammo type in your gun would do. For example, loading a mix of twelve and twenty gauge shells into your shotgun, and then having it literally blow up in your face because of your lack of gun knowledge.

   I want it to be insanely difficult to find ammo for guns. I hate how everyone seems to have an M4 nowdays. Just today, I spawned in, and 10 minutes later I had an M4 with a 60 round, 40 round, and 30 round mag + a hunting backpack + tons of food. Sure I had some help getting the food after me and some guys on TS murdered people, but other than that, it's way to easy to find stuff (I found the M4 on my own, too easy.)

I think 15-20 ammo types is a good limit. The challenge is getting good weapons that fire them.

I'm more worried that the system they're using isn't going to be scalable to a large number of different items.

What do you mean "worried" ??

Ammo diversification is FANTASTIC! It means that instead of a blanket "Ammo is too easy to find" or "Ammo is too hard to find," there can be a balance of low-caliber weapons being easy to stock (9mm Makarov, 9mm parabellum) but serious weapons (rifle caliber-up) is difficult to stock. That is fantastic for game balance.

It's also fantastic for the penalization of bad decision making. "Well, do I grab this M4A1 now and hope to find some 5.56 later, or take this Mosin and box of 7.62?" It also adds the difficulty for non firearm aficionados (AKA most of the players) having to remember "Okay THIS pistol is 9mm, THIS pistol is 9x21, and THIS one is 9mm Makarov, THIS one is .25 ACP, THIS one is .45, THIS one is 5.7, THIS one is .40 SW, and THIS one is 10mm" That adds skill-gap to the game, and all successful games have a rewarding skill gap. Not, "The AK shoots AK bullets the M4 shoots M4 bullets" as you want.

Furthermore, ammo diversification-aside from variety realism-allow for type diversification, which is also fantastic. You have normal, tracer, hollowpoint, armor-piercing for rifles, normal/HP/AP for pistols, and (if for whatever reason launchers are added) you have to make the tough choice "Do I take this HEDP rocket because I can use it against infantry and vehicles, do I take this *penetrator because I know there's some bandits on this hive rolling in an armored SUV, or do I take this thermobaric rocket to maximize zombie kills?"

15-20 isn't NEARLY enough.

 

And you forgot 5.7mm for the FN Five-Seven and the FN P90.

Also:

 

We need 10 gauge, 20 gauge, 12 gauge shotguns. As an American, I'm not familiar with not-gauge shells. I think .416 (I'm probably horribly off and that's way too super big for what I'm thinking of) is used in the M16 Scout rifle (every google search is coming up with video games >.>) which is an over-under. The top fires .22 and the bottom fires bird-shells (it's designed for survival, not fighting). We need ultra-rare Dragonbreath rounds, nonlethal rounds (beanbags and those water-capsule bullets, which hurt like hell and CAN kill at close range, designed for destroying explosives without setting them off), flares, slugs, flechettes... et cetera.

 

Sniper rifles need to come in 5.56, .308, 7.62, .338. There's a breach-action sniper rifle from Finland or Sweden that fires 40mm mortar shells...

We need a 5.56 LMG, a 7.62 LMG.

9mm, 5.7mm, 10mm sub-machine guns are a must.

 

There's a crazy Russian shotgun that fires the equivalent of 4 gauge that's considered dangerous to operate. The company sells a sawn-off no-stock version only the Spetznas carry that can break your wrist in a single fire. Both should be included to see just how desperate people can get in a battle with the undead or not-so-friendly friendlies. The Dog-1 revolver is also a must. Russian revolvers firing 32gague modified shells cannot be excluded. As long as cowboy hats are mistakenly included, why no the Taurus .454 Raging Bull revolver as well? The Viking, Grach 443, and all of Izmash's other pistols should be included. the Drotik 5.45m burst-fire pistol, the OTS22 9mm machine pistol, and the 9mm burst fire pistol (its name escapes me at the moment)

 

 

 

AND!

 

There needs to be 7.62x31 AND 7.62x51 to further confuse people who think all 7.62 is the same.

I would like to see more calibers but there aren't many that can be implemented without adding prototype, shit, or extremely rare guns like Five-Sevens, DEs, SCAR-Hs, and ACRs.

I think there's a limit. I mean there's only so many calibers they can really go for without bleeding over into the obscure. That said, I don't really have an issue with obscure calibers insofar as they remain rare. But here are the rounds that are pretty common in my book, I'm probably missing some hunting rounds or Russian pistol rounds as well in there. So forgive me.

 

5.56x45 and 5.45x39 respectively.

 

7.62x39

 

7.62x54R and 7.62x51 respectively.

 

.22 LR

 

9x19

 

.45 ACP

 

I'd say that covers the majority. I've underlined the ones that are already in. 7.62x39 and 5.45x39 are inbound assumedly, possibly 7.62x54R with the SVD.

 

If they want to throw in some (relatively, although many have common hunting applications) rarer rounds like .300 Win Mag or .338 LM, I'd be okay with that.

p90s and 57s are insanely rare guns.

 

They never took off in the civilian market and very few militarys adopted them.

 

They would be common at all.
