Jex 1104 Posted March 31, 2014 So with the recent patch my FPS went up a little so I was playing more 1st person. I was running around with an axe, a rifle over my back and wearing an orange raincoat and a red hard hat and a red mountain back pack with the intention of supplying anyone I met with whatever I had. I expected to be shot but I survived 12-15 people, gave them some gear before some douch murdered me and this guy (I met earlier, we grouped up) by glitching through a 3 story house in electro. I could have got away but he shot my new friend first so I just taunted him running back and forth laughing as he sprayed about 60 shots trying to get me. Funnily enough when I respawned, my new friend was 20 feet from me. Then some German assholes came over, fully geared, told us to get down and then just shot us. Every 3rd person server I've been on I've been KOS'd.
pacific_coast 632 Posted March 31, 2014 3rd person is used to camp with maximum field of view, so you can get the drop on someone running into a town hardcore isn't any safer, really.we're better players without the 3pp crutch wall hacks.

The second DayZ becomes completely 1st person, I'll be happy as a clam to prove you wrong. Thing is, 3rd person servers are more popular/populated, so if you want action it's easier to find on 3rd person... which means more engagements, more bullet dodging, and more out-smarting people who try to jump you using 3rd person. Of course, it also means you have to use this ability yourself.. not necessarily to see through walls (although that sometimes happens without trying).. But to see around corners/over walls, yes.
Jex 1104 Posted March 31, 2014 I was playing on 40 player 1st person servers too btw. Whilst you may have the ability yourself, you can't use it against a player camped on a roof if ur on the street below so that argument fails and also isn't the scope of this thread. Anyone else finding 1st person servers more friendly?
doctorbadsign 645 Posted March 31, 2014 I don't think its necessarily true, just seems to be one of those ideas that everyone has that gets banded around (like the rabbits making zombies noises thing). I've been killed and had friendly experiences in equal measure in hardcore and regular servers.

Only that you have to play smart and consider that you're not the only one able to use it.

I agree with this^^ So many more variables to factor in when playing vs 3rd person users. Makes it a lot harder IMO :)
DemonGroover 8836 Posted March 31, 2014 I find interactions can be a bit more of a shock and surprise in 1st, especially looting in towns and cities - and if one of you has a gun it is very easy to panic and shoot without thinking.

Every 3rd person server I've been on I've been KOS'd. I can't really say if it is MORE FRIENDLY. Only thing I know is, that there is a distinct difference between the perception of how you encounter another person. There is no birdseye behind which you can hide in first person. The encounter itself is absolutely different between 1st and 3rd person perspective. I personally prefer 1st person, so I play hardcore and most of the time I stumble into s.o. I don't get immediatly shot. But, that's just me :)
xbatmanx 10 Posted March 31, 2014 I found 1st person players a little more willing to help out. I am so happy that they have given us the choice to play either way.
Buffaloe 87 Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) I find interactions can be a bit more of a shock and surprise in 1st, especially looting in towns and cities - and if one of you has a gun it is very easy to panic and shoot without thinking. That is definitely true. I killed and got killed this way a lot. I gotta admit, when I first played SA (never played the mod) I was really surprised that 3rd person was so popular. Actually it even surprised me that it was there at all. First person seems much more natural to me (especially in this kind of game), and even if I play on a reg-server I mostly stay in first person. I wonder what makes people prefer 3rd person though. There can't be that many people who suffer of motion sickness :D Edited March 31, 2014 by Buffaloe
TheHunan 2 Posted March 31, 2014 So the HC servers are only FPS? hmmm may have to try that.
TheHuntsMan87 194 Posted March 31, 2014 Well good for you for helping people out...it does take alot to go over to someone without that doubt in the back of your mind they could turn any second. I jave found that playing hardcore severs {well 80 percent of them} most people are more friendly towards you...no idea why but i have to admit when I want to have a great game im always the first to head over to the hardcore servers. Sistinas1973 50 Posted March 31, 2014 I get kos on both. The only thing I would add is I believe less kiddos are on HC.
makomachine 263 Posted March 31, 2014 Not more friendly in my experience. People just can't be trusted....

Jumbaliah 113 Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) First person servers are already dying off. You guys really should have waited to cry and moan about it until the game was fully released. They won't even make it past Alpha. First person just feels so unnatural and doesn't capture the entire beauty and point of this game. Any time I played on a "hardcore" server it seemed the best thing to do to avoid being shot was just run circles around someone. While that works most of the time in 3pp as well, it is infinitely and unrealistically more effective in first person only. Both perspectives need some serious work, it's alpha we know, but as it is first person < third person. Inevitably first person servers will die a slow and painstaking death just as they did in the mod :) Edited March 31, 2014 by Jumbaliah
Jex 1104 Posted March 31, 2014 I remember one kid I helped out. I set him up with a gun, axe, medikit. Anyway I run off to loot some and head up the firestation in my bright orange coat and red hat and he's up there but doesn't hear me come up. I scared the crap out of him and he hits me with his Axe so I run down the stairs yelling, "I just gave you my gear only 2 minutes ago!" So he then remembers who I am and patches me up. After this he told he panicked and just started hitting so it just goes to show, even in bright red and orange you panic someone and they might react violently even though they were friendly. To Jumb - presumably floating over your body feels natural to you? What is it about FPS where dayz is the only game people argue how bad FPS like dayz is the first ever game to invent First Person Shooter. They've been around years and are the "natural" way to game as you're looking through your avatar's eyes. Maybe ur eyes float behind ur head? They make the game much easier (Ether and Karma) which is undeniably provable and yet this "3rd person is harder" is still bandied about so please state your case because I'm not buying this for a minute right now and have a very good argument proving how easy 3rd person view is. weedmasta 784 Posted March 31, 2014 3pp servers aren't any more friendly than 1pp servers or vice versa in my experience.
sabaka (DayZ) 70 Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) I have found hardcore to be more friendly overall and I have two theories why. 1 - children prefer 3pp. I have never run into little kids on hardcore, and in my experience kids are more likely to shoot you on sight then talk trash over direct because you didn't see them first while they were hiding behind a doorway using the magic periscope to see you.2 - role players prefer 1pp. If you are genuinely treating this game as an immersive survival game you will not be using the magic periscope. If you're not using it you don't want it used against you so you play hardcore. This type of player is more likely to work together.Experimental servers are also friendlier than regular, because they require you to actually click 2 buttons to opt in so that filters out so many cod bozos. On experimental hardcore I'd say that the vast majority of my interactions, even while geared and armed, were friendly. I've even traded ammo and weapons with groups of people and no one started shooting as soon as the others turned their backs. 3rd person is also very obviously easier because it basically removes the need to actually understand tactical positioning or have any situational awareness. If you aren't sure how visible you are at any time just go to magic periscope, hold alt, and scout your own position. Once you're satisfied just camp, using the magic periscope to see others without exposing yourself. On this note I don't think that 1pp players are necessarily any more skilled, but I do think that bad players gravitate toward 3pp. Since there are so many more 3pp players it's hard to say which group is more skilled on average though. It's possible that many good players play 3pp just to gank the bad players that invariably play 3pp. Edited March 31, 2014 by sabaka
jukaga 271 Posted March 31, 2014 I've recently switched over to hardcore servers and while I'm not sure people are more 'friendly', they definitely are more thoughtful. I've had several tense encounters that ended with both parties walking away, when on regular or veteran servers those scenarios would have likely resulted in shots being fired. I prefer the tension and perspective in 1st person as well.
solodude23 649 Posted March 31, 2014 I've also found 1PP to be more friendly and also found that there are less kids, griefers, and general douchbags. Is there a connection? Who knows. :o

eleventhavenue 204 Posted March 31, 2014 I recently tried to play on a 3rd person server. I got KOS'ed literally after two minutes. A guy with an M4 was just sitting behind a stair in a random house, just waiting for people. Judging by the corpses, I'm pretty sure that he'd probably been there for 30 minutes... ... and recently on a 1st person server, a guy with an SKS surprised me on the coast. I traded a can of food with him for a few 7.62x51's for my Mosin...I can pretty much only recall being KOS'ed once or twice on a hardcore server... Maybe 1st person is more friendly? In my experience: Yes.
