Overall opinions on the SA so far?

Recommended Posts

First of all I want to make it clear I havnt bought the SA yet. I've been keeping a close eye on the forums and latest YouTube vids. I have many many hours in the mod and I feel I know how the game plays enough to gather an opinion.

I will start with what I see good in the SA.....

You can enter all buildings

The zombies look much better (tho there seems to be a huge lack of them).

Added on to some cities.

Can take scopes off guns.

These are all very solid improvements but there are some huge things keeping me from buying the SA.

First off, I am pretty disappointed its the same map we have been playing for 2 years.

Also they seem to be putting a lot of focus on customizations. Don't get me wrong, this is cool but it seems very secondary to some things that seem to be missing from the game yet.

A huge part of fun I had in the SA was searching for awesome guns and stashing them. Even if I couldn't stash them at the time it was awesome searching for and running around with a camo M4A3, LMG or many of the awesome looking guns in the mod. In the SA the M4 looks decent and the rest very bland/old looking guns.

We played with the Enfield, M4, Winchester for a long time before the SA came out. Why give us basically the same guns? Tho these guns are different they look and perform about the same as the Lee and etc. At least give us some guns that look more like some of the awesome looking guns from the mod.

Good loot was a huge part of the mod that is missing in the SA. Why put in 7 new fur coats and no cool new gun? Instead another lame/boring gun. No good loot in the SA and it looks like they aren't even going in that direction.

If I shot someone in the chest and it destroys their gear that's fine but the last thing I want to do is find a new pair of shoes because mine have degraded. I would much rather spend that time looking for an awesome gun.

Another thing is something like rotten fruit. My dude is starving and I think I found fruit but oh no its rotten. Seems pointless. Take that out and put something in that has a purpose.

I havnt even played this game and cant bring myself too because I get a headache just thinking about things like these.

Out of all the time on the mod we came on this forum and was supposedly part of the development of the game. But I don't remember anyone ever thinking degradable gear would be cool. Or having the same map for the SA. Or boring guns. Or taking most of the zombies out of the game even tho they are improved.

If one wants to respectfully disagree or correct me please do. I am tying to find reasons to buy the SA, I just cant find them right now. I almost feel like the SA has taken a step back from the mod and it shouldn't be like that even if the SA is still pre-release. $30 pre-release at that.

I sure hope this game comes together in the end.

To be honest, I'd stick with a game like Arma 3 based on what I'm getting out of your post. Lots of concerns around things that will likely (hopefully) never be in DayZ. More guns, less survival sounds more like what you are looking for and it's a released game, not prerelease.

I hope so.

I think one of my main concerns is the direction they seem to be going. It seems like they havnt done much besides put in customizations. While this is cool it seems like there is so many more important things like simply some cool guns.

I just read on another thread that zombie difficulty is hard enough now that some people have troube looting. That is not a bad thing but I personally would rather have a shit load of more zombies rather than a small amount of hard ones.

Harder zombies aren't bad tho and I could accept that if they put some more purposeful things in the game.

You hope more zombies and awesome guns to kill them with will never be in Day Z? Or a new huge map? I respect your opinion.

I didn't mean more guns or easier to find guns. I mean awesome looking guns need to be in the game rather than the bland ones we have Or add 7 new awesome looking guns rather than 7 fur coats.

Im fine with loot being hard has shit to find.

Yeah I think you should forget DayZ. There are Wasteland and other mods that might suit you in Arma series. Maybe later if mods and private hives come in DayZ you should check the game again.

I think you have misunderstood me as well.

I don't mean easier to find guns or loot in general. I just think we need awesome looking guns to find rather than the boring ones we have.

I'm just saying that if your focus is guns, you likely should look elsewhere - at least for a while. Lots of survival and core game mechanics needing worked on and there are better games for guns already out. Might try breaking point mod, if zombies are an interest as well - and lots of guns too.

I like Breaking Point. But its definately lacking in the survival department because its so easy to heal. Its like a private hive in the mod. You need hardly any concern about your payers well being. It takes the survival aspect right out.

its alpha, it will be nothing like this on release to be honest.

right now the main content is guns, finding guns and finding ammo and a bit of food. so its a bleeding blood bath right now, for the most part but its not all like that. but its ******* hilarious if you have the sence of humor for it or a hell of allot of fun if you like hc pvp.

but it will not last for long so if you love it get playing, if you dont it will change gradually over the year, if you will break your computer and cry if somone shoots you from a bush when your getting water for your pony then.........

Opinion is low.

  • Rocket is a weak figurehead for development and always has been. Claiming a new product is a flawed concept and then announcing his upcoming departure is no way to build a sense of trust with his community or a sense of confidence in the development. Imagine buying a Tesla only to hear Elon Musk call the Tesla a flawed vehicle and that he's going to be leaving Tesla Motors to someone else.
  • Development is slow like the mod and, what's worse, infrequent. 0.42 took over a month to release. Sure they might have had problems, but you can release small content patches independent of mechanics patches unless they're passing around the files on a USB.
  • Player CCU spiked with the new update, but it's almost back down to where it was (28k CCU). We'll see how the weekend goes, but it probably won't break past 35k. The pattern that's emerging is that there's an update, a spike, and then it returns very quickly to pre-patch levels and then continues to drop.
  • Development seems to focus on the wrong things in the wrong order. Rocket is currently working on hunting, apparently. Hunting serves no purpose in DayZ at the moment, especially if you can just get energized from a can of beans. Their priorities should be respawning loot, respawning zombies, and base building before adding in fringe content like hunting. Hunting it the kind of mechanic that complements having a base or living on a particular server/region. Hunting by itself adds nothing to the gameplay. People will still KoS in Elektro; they'll just have to go into town and deal with zombies less.
  • The zombies going through buildings is apparently an issue with the building models not having a roadway applied for pathfinding, but new buildings are added still without the pathway. We should be seeing a few dozen buildings updated each week, and the new ones should have the roadway included as part of their production cycle. If they know the issue, they ought to be fixing it ASAP, especially if it's just painting in a path for zombies to follow. The art team is working on more guns instead of that or items for base building. Crossbows? Who is gonna use a crossbow except to try it?
  • Whoever is doing the map is doing a nice job, but there are a ton of police stations with high value loot all over the coast. There's one on the way into Elektro, ffs. It's just another reason to run south and participate in the deathmatch.
  • Etc.

I don't see how they don't have several sweet ass guns in there yet.

In the mod, no matter what gun you had, even if it was your favorite gun, there was always a chance of finding a gun you would switch it out with. You would have to make a decision as to which sweet ass gun you would keep. If you had car or tent you could stash.

Now you get an M4 and there is nothing to look forward to looting.

It's because they are more important things right now, like survival equipment.

Except for any of the other rifles.

Yeah, pathfinding needs to be fixed, but server performance is still an issue that takes precedent over basebuilding. Guns can be  added right now, bases can't.

I agree there are more important things but I don't see adding 7 new fur coats over some awesome looking guns at least.

They can make the models and textures though. There's no reason they can't push those items to their repo and let em sit until the other teams need em.

So's everything else in DayZ.

I have high hopes for this game. I don't have that many opinions, so I guess I could say that the game needs heavy, HEAVY work on it.

Outside of performance, I think adding some sweet looking guns and some tents to stash loot would be a huge improvement.

OP says it himself

You can enter all buildings - this alone blows away the mod

/thread

All the "negative" things he can come up with aren't even the problems the game has right now. He's crying about improvements to the game over the mod like they're a bad thing (having unusable junk everywhere like there would be so it actually feels like you're in a real world / rotten fruit to tease you when you're starving / not having guns in every building you go into / gear degradation)

Well I know I probably worded this wrong but I am fine with guns being hard to find. I just want the possibility of the gun I do find to look awesome. imo at the moment there is not one awesome looking gun in the game.

And I know there are improvements (tho I don't think rotten fruit is one of them) but I think some of the things they added are a headache instead of an improvement. My opinion yes, feel free to disagree.

There are plenty of "awesome looking guns" in the game at the moment. More will be added, so will other stuff. This is not really an issue in any way.

You are of course free to make up your own goal for playing this game, but "finding awesome looking guns and stashing them in a tent" being your end game sounds extremely boring and pointless to me.

There is no end game in that. Stash, stash, stash and keep stashing.

What guns are you refering to?

What is your goal or end game in this game?
