notaqua 7 Posted March 26, 2014 I don't know how many people will support this, but it bothers me enough to ask for it. Please put an option in the sound settings to disable the "buzzing" sound of bugs flying behind your ear in the game. I understand this is part of realism and everything, but it's already really hurting my enjoyment of the game. I sit inside all day being an uber-nerd PC gamer because I DON'T want to hear bugs flying in my ears. The game sound effects are realistic enough to drive me crazy just like a real bug would buzzing in my ears. Nobody likes that. And the worst part is, the sounds are driving me crazy already, and it's winter now. The windows are closed and all the bugs are dead, so I know that they're ingame sounds and not actual bugs... come summer, I don't know if I'll be able to play the game. I will be constantly paranoid and freaking out over whether or not it's an actual bug this time. Call me a girl, IDGAF. Please give me the option to disable that sound effect. Would be nice, thanks. byrgesen 1341 Posted March 26, 2014 I doubt they can turn it off, without removing the entire background track mate, so your chances of succes here are very very slim :) Play some more and get used to it tbh.
Elle 562 Posted March 26, 2014 just so I understand this correctly... you want the devs to take some precious time away from overall game development so they can add a toggle to let you turn the flies off. is that what I just read? on a side note: being an "uber-nerd PC gamer" one would think that you would already be aware that games representing realism in the outdoors are going to have appropriate outdoor ambient sounds so it might be more efficient to ask for the devs to make a toggle for ambient sounds overall. just sayin. doublebrain 255 Posted March 26, 2014 Just put a headset on your ears and youll know that no bug could even get in there!

And I think what Byrg said is probably right, so I'm SOL
odin_lowe 3686 Posted March 26, 2014 I love the environment sounds in DayZ. I wish we could hear crickets in the evening, and frogs near ponds... More environment sounds for me please.
monolith1985 109 Posted March 26, 2014 i agree with more environment sounds, ambience is good. however i dont like ambient sounds like that gate sound or another that sounds like someone hitting a metal barrel however i would like the option to turn off the bugs, and birds themselves, while it is nice having them in the world, in the aftermath and dayzero mods bugs and birds were turned off which was one factor that improved FPS. So if we can already make the terrain look low quality, and bushes and trees practically see-through, then it would be nice to have an option which helps lower end PCs, but at the same time not affecting gameplay (core mechanics, exploiting, overall graphics)though it would be nice, its not a major thing and sits very low on a hopeful to-do list
Elle 562 Posted March 26, 2014 That's what you read, yes. And I think what Byrg said is probably right, so I'm SOLI would agree you are most likely SOL however I can see them adding the option to adj volume for the ambient sounds in the future so it may not all be a loss for you, you will just have to sacrifice all those fun birds and gates and that funny someone hitting a barrel. I love the environment sounds in DayZ. I wish we could hear crickets in the evening, and frogs near ponds... More environment sounds for me please.I have heard crickets in the game near sunset and for a while afterwards. at least I hope they are game crickets... frogs would be cool - good idea :)
So Sexy 259 Posted March 26, 2014 (edited) Havent you ever been in the woods? This is a realistic game, plus it would give an advantage to those who would turn off the bug etc sounds. Edited March 26, 2014 by So Sexy

BeefBacon 1185 Posted March 27, 2014 There's a sound made that is very similar to the one made when you open a soda, and I hate that. Puts me on edge for no good reason. Spent 20 minutes in a room with my rifle pointed at the door because I thought there was somebody on the floor above me. Besides that I see no reason to remove other sounds besides a few tweaks. For example, sometimes I'll be in the middle of a forest and I'll hear the gate squeak ambient sound, which is odd.
notaqua 7 Posted March 27, 2014 I know, I know, I said I understand that this game is meant to be realistic. How about make the bug noises just a little further away from your ears, so it doesn't give me the same feeling as an actual bug behind my head? Compromise here? Compromise here?heres a compromise, add a toggle for the ambient sounds but not the effects. that way you can turn off the birds, gates, weird guy whackin the barrel etc. but not the sounds of incoming zeds, gunshots and those sneaky lil footsteps. but you will be missing so much when the frogs are added oh and crickets, we have to have crickets for sure (cause I still aint sure). I would imagine a muffle would have to be included for the sneaky lil footsteps so as to not grant too much advantage to the person who toggles off ambient sounds. just a thought. antonioajc 500 Posted March 28, 2014 You think a bug like that can be easily removed?
