I read a lot of things here... i can tell that's the only thing that keeps me from writing something that is above me(great post, it's taste just like raisins)

Well, in my opinion, this step should be kind of automated.

One way would be that the Zombies recognize obstacles by the 3d Objects themselves.

The other way is that the outlines would be generated automatically by an algorithm. So that you are free to change the map at any time, because you can easily regenerate the outlines automatically.

So for me, there is no argument to wait for everything being designed so they can finally make the outlines. That would be a flawed process in my opinion. You could never easily just change the map design later on, without creating a rat-tail of postwork and testing. But you have to easily be able to redesign the map at any time. You just have to.

So in my opinion really zombies are just player models with different meshes (aka clothing/faces) that are controlled by ai.  The building models are already made so you cannot walk through them or players could walk through them as well.  So why is there such a large gap between players walking through walls and the ai controlled models walking through walls.  The barriers should already be in place otherwise everyone would be running through them.

Hah, I had no idea they used nav meshing, and here I thought DayZ would be NOTHING like modding Fallout3 or New Vegas. I can attest to how much of a pain nav meshing by itself is, I worked on a fallout3 mod with some rather experienced modders, couple that with the fact that you have to outline each building so that the game sees it for NPC's and there is weeks or months of work there.

The entire game has to be covered in a large navmesh, in addition you add into the fact that the buildings are all currently not finished, many of them are just "cereal boxes with doors painted on them" as yahtzee said, and many have areas that you really should be able to enter but can't, on top of that you have AI behavior for stuff like climbing ladders and stairs, and the possibility of altering or removing buildings later on, this all means that if they appeased everyone now it would delay the release of more bug fixes, features, hacking prevention, etc because those code monkeys are now working nonstop on those buildings. then they could be thrown away which means re-editing the entire region again. Work SMART not just hard. In this case I find what they are doing of saving for the map to be finished to be the smart option. It is best to save this for now while they work on implementing all the features they want without gamebreaking glitches and then focus on debugging them. Annoying? Oh GOD yes, but for now it is the wisest choice, much to my chagrin.

Well considering there are only a fixed number of building types, I don't see how it would be an obstacle for redesigning the map once you have all the planned buildings implemented.

They dont have to navmesh the whole world, its more like they have to navmesh where they zombos can't go (blocking them with a verticle plane they cannot pass through), rather than where they can.

This is the biggest crock of shit I've ever read.  Why in God's name would they not start applying the fix to the many buildings that will not doubt stay in the final version of the game?

This post really pisses me off because it insults our intelligence.   Dean found a fucking way to climb the world's tallest mountain... it cost nearly 100,000 dollars and untold amounts of resources and preparation.   But you are telling me he can't find a way to fix the god damn zombies yet because we don't know what the final building tally will be?

Are you fucking serious?   You know what, I'm going to just say what needs to be said and I guess I'll be banned and never able to use the forums again.   But this needs to be fucking said on behalf of all the DayZ fans out there that really believed in this project like I did.   We really believed that this game could be something special.

But we are to believe after all this time, they can't find a way to fix zombies yet?

Fuck Dean, Fuck DayZ.  Fuck Bohemia.

I guess I'm done.

Have fun with your broken ass zombies guys.  Sorry we got fucking sold out.

bye

They have an entire 40 person team working on only zombie AI and pathfinding in Slovakia...so give it some time. However, I have noticed that some buildings the infected don't clip through like they used to. For example, hangars. They now run all the way around and through the front doors, when they used to clip through the walls.

bring back rick1633 woo!

Lol.  I almost got banned.   Im sorry i was such a dick but I really care about this game.      I am like this becausevim worried they are shopping the title around instead of working on the core.  And that may result in the game being abandoned.

Im all for harder zombies, but i feel that making them harder *before* finalizing map layout and sorting clipping is the wrong order. its a Game-breaking issue that should be prioritized ahead of a zombie damage/animation/speed re balance. Get the physics and core shit right at 100% THEN tweak values and fine tune balancing!

If you know anything about BI, you would know they dont abandon games just like that.

You make it sound like BI is EA's missing brother lol ;)

Take Arma III for example, they worked on it for almost 3 years, then threw the entire workload in the trash, because they werent happy and started over again.

BI is the kind of company who would rather give it more time, then release something they dont like.

@topic

I forgot all about this thread, its very very important tbh.

As i see it, this is the last thing that will happen, simply because its such a time consuming task and its much much easier to tweak zombie speed/damage/agro, then having to go through each and every house, adjusting the navigational mesh like this

Stay patient guys, it wont get fixed faster if you yell louder imho, have some faith in the great company that is Bohemia Interactive :)

no worries!   summer is coming !   i m sure he will make a month vacation again! and let others work harder!

edit:

he didnt climb it even!  he paid others to guide him!!!!   instead of goin up there he could have put time into dayz sa!

i am bit worried if we ever see a full release.   at first we are getting hyped like mad    --> then he just goes on vacation (to climba freakin mountain) ---->  and then there is this lousy, slow Progression of the developement! with all the bugs (which seem to be ignored by the devs mostly).

Great rebuttal.  Way to take apart all my valid points.

Don't push it bro. You got off the hook cheaply last time.

If you can't make your argument without all the trash talking, then you should consider not arguing at all.

I'm sick of all these naysayers. First, they foresaw SA not coming out ever, when we got alpha version, they move out to predict another doom's day scenario (Rocket and/or BInot giving cr@p about SA, H1Z1 being the next savior of game industry and not P2W fiasco etc).

I doubt you were forced to buy DayZ SA alpha or that you had to sell your kidney (or better half of your brain) to be able to afford it. Just give it more time, BI is not going anywhere.

This whole post should have been the nav mesh tutorial vid for hammer lol

That might have hammered (no pun intended) home just how fiddly and time cosuming nav-meshing is.....even on tiny l4d levels :)

Off the hook?

He should have never been on the hook to begin with.

He can express his opinions however he wants- Angry or calm, his choice.

The fact he was nearly banned for posting that is disgusting.

Are you for real? So I can swear at you in any abusive way and it would be all ok?

Or have you, by chance, did not read forum rules at all?

He was not flaming, he was ranting over things.

I guess all rant videos should be removed from Youtube, then?

I am for real, all websites should allow 100% freedom of speech.

Ok, then I'm probably one of the oldschool dudes thinking, that one can 100% express himself easily enough without swearing all over the place.

But yeah, maybe I'm just biased against obvious haters, it might be the case.

Well, the problem isnt HOW, the problem is WHEN.

How long it will be till zombies can be a threat without being walking glitches that spawn over your head? Arent them the main threat of the 'zombie apocalipse' premise?

what? so now they're starting to ban people that say bad things about the game?

You know, this remembers me some game's forum, you know. That game that has a Z on the end too, they started to ban everyone that would post something negative about the game too, and i remember all the DayZ crowd used it as a joke here on this forums.

This is just... ironic.

Well, i guess my days are coming to an end too. LOL

Stop being drama queen. For post like this, nobody will ever ban you.

If you start using F bombs every second word, suggesting that content players are licking Dev's intimate parts, then yes, you can get banned, but mostly just for week or two.

I knew there was going to be a shit-storm after they beefed of the zombie speed and respawns.  It's identical to the people who said it was impossible to effectively melee in the mod.  They refused to believe that there is a way of doing things other than the way they happen to do things.  They got comfortable running around completely ignoring zombies and now they don't know how to adapt.

Edit:  I think the zombies are fast enough... There needs to be more of them... and it needs to be possible to sneak around them.

These are the people that would die in a RL Zombie Apocalypse btw
