[Outcasts]Massacre 121 Posted March 21, 2014 (edited) Most network cards have options which you can set. Try turning on jumbo frames/jumbo packets I got mine set to 9KB MTU and I'm playing just fine with no desync or lag. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumbo_frame Ps, I'm on a 100MB line with a gigabit router and network card, this will also influence my network performance. Pps, Note this may not work for you but its an option and trying it wont cause any harm. Edited March 21, 2014 by Massacre
The-MCV- 149 Posted March 21, 2014 For anyone wondering where this can be found: device manager -> network adapters -> whatever controller you have -> RMB & properties. I'll try this out too soon.

kimosabbi 48 Posted March 21, 2014 Interesting - if that's working for you. Can an admin/someone involved in game development have a look at this? Is the info being pulled from the server essentially trying to push too much data to client through a small channel? Saying that though - massacre, you're working on a 100mb line....I am currently on an "8mb" line but I'm actually only getting around 2mb. If I allowed it to take jumbo frames etc I'm pretty sure there would be an explosion. How did you come across this, by the way?

If I allowed it to take jumbo frames etc I'm pretty sure there would be an explosion. How did you come across this, by the way? The devs mention in a reddit post that the reason for "waiting for host" / "desync" and / or latency is a UDP packet which is to large. http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/20wmit/rocket_tweets_on_dsync_and_a_hotfix/cg7ij7v?context=1 rocket2guns Yes, for me too it has been barely playable.By the time the desync resolves itself, I get kicked for signature timeout. We have tried several small hotfixes, however the issue is related to UDP messages exceeding the size that can be handled. We are isolating what message causes that tomorrow as we spent today setting up a special network debug environment to test the issue. So I went and checked my settings wondering if anything in it influenced performance and I noticed I had set jumbo frames to 9KB MTU so I figured it might be related but I havent experimented with it just thought i'd share with the community in case it allowed some of you to play or help decrease latency/desync for some. Again it may not do anything at all for DayZ since i havent confirmed or experimented with it but it does help decrease CPU cycles for handling network trafic ( a smaller load from network activity due to larger size packets, which means theres less packets to handle ) so its not a bad thing to have set. Ozar 108 Posted March 21, 2014 (edited) turning off the IPv6 Function helped me as well. But just a Little. Still have Desync and DC's. [EDIT]: i have a 200MB/s Fiber-Glas Connection. Edited March 21, 2014 by Ozar
kimosabbi 48 Posted March 21, 2014 Cool - thanks for the information. Jesus christ, where are you guys located that you're getting that good a connection?
byrgesen 1341 Posted March 21, 2014 Do you have any idea what kind of impact this could have on a "slow" connection?Im talking 1-5 mb/s :) coz thats about what ive got atm.
[Outcasts]Massacre 121 Posted March 21, 2014 (edited) Cool - thanks for the information. Jesus christ, where are you guys located that you're getting that good a connection? I'm dutch and on a 100mb broadband line with very few people on this loop ;-) and i'm running DD-WRT on my routers instead of the factory firmware. http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index turning off the IPv6 Function helped me as well. But just a Little. Still have Desync and DC's. [EDIT]: i have a 200MB/s Fiber-Glas Connection. I'm not seeing any DCs and barely any desync at all. It shouldn't impact your connection negatively but your router may not be able to handle it so i recommend experimenting with it if you notice an decrease in performance you can simply turn it off.
Princess Dookie 35 Posted March 21, 2014 It was my understanding that this issue only occurs when the server gets a bit filled up. When I join a server with less than ~10 players, I will not get kicked, while the rest joining after me, will. If I join a server with more than 12~, I will get kicked in a few mins. I will try that jumbo packet fix you mention, even though it is most likely not the true resolution. None the less, thanks for the info!
Buffaloe 87 Posted March 21, 2014 Thanks for the advice OP. It did actually help.
CrazyCorky 40 Posted March 21, 2014 Looking at it from a networking perspective it does make some sense.I had a similar issue with another game that was having packet loss and turning off IPv6 helped. I also made other changes on my network card and it made a difference.(I'm in class and can't give specifics. Once at home I will.)
Sinphaltimus 262 Posted March 21, 2014 Guys, I believe when the OP says he had 100mbs conbection he is taking about his network card, that's his LAN speed. Everyone here (if you can play DayZ) had the same LAN connection or better (1000mbs or 1gbps) unless you have a fiber card installed in you pc or a much more expensive card which allows more but is usually used in enterprise datacenters . OP, having a gb router will not give you higher speed if your nic is 100mb. The port connected to your computer will autosense 100mbs and automatically connect at the slower speed. But that doesn't matter unless you're internet connection (WAN) is greater than 100mbs. Even at those speeds, I don't think many servers or on the internet could fill that pipe. Those kinds of speeds are for purple who stream HD while downloading huge files and game at the same time with multiple devices in there gone doing the same. Gaming uses much less bandwidth tops. I have crappy DSL 1mps up 3 mbps down and can play DayZ with minimum lag and desync not caused by the server. With all that said. I will check my jumboframe settings when I get home. Don't know if it will help but it's worth a shot. Most of my lag/desync happens connecting to a server or entering an area where others are so minimizing that would be great. Also, the devs know it's something they can fix too so done of this may not be anything that anyone can help with at the moment. I imagine higher internet sites with faster and decent lan gear us the best option.

I noticed this last night, after playing on a low prop server, then I joined a full server and got kicked with in under 30 mins of playing. So will also try out the jumbo packet fix and see if it will help.
w00kie 42 Posted March 21, 2014 My results are in: I have a 12mb line, runs into a 100mb router, then feed to a 1gig hub then I unplugged everything connected from it, apart from my self. Just to make sure no other thing was making a problem. I went on the high prop server, and it didn't work at all :( However this was with IPV6 still enabled, come out then I disabled IPV6. Restarted the computer to make sure all settings changed/updated. Still no affect to the lag/desync problem, still getting it :( Then I went for a low prop server, then I had no problems at all. However good news is they have seemed to have found the problem, check here : http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/181074-join-sever-delay-waiting-for-host-since-latest-patch/#entry1867297
DonTonino 4 Posted March 22, 2014 Your welcome, but note it may not do anything for you depending on the rest of your network gear. My network card doesn't support Jumbo frames, so I can't test it. Now I'm testing the game with only the IPv4 enabled, so far it seems to run smoother but it could be due to other reasons as well
