That's why he wrote that. We currently are in the early stages of development and an entire team was just dedicated to zombie path finding and such. I think we'll be seeing some good changes soon.

 

In the meantime, I REALLY don't mind zombies being a tad more challenging even if they are buggy.

Yes, its in the early stages of dev. But it has been for well over a year. Not just since December when the early release alpha came out. My point was why not the fine tuned focus on Zeds BEFORE now?

The first line is irrelevant. What does clothes have to do with zombies? I highly doubt the guys making clothes have anything to do with zombie path-finding (or anything zombie aside from maybe looks). Making things paintable is an evidently easy change, why not do it?

 

As for your last line, I dunno man. No one can answer that except DEVs - but we do know that most games are in development in the background for years before they even release a screenshot, not to mention a trailer or playable alpha. I don't see this as being much different aside from the fact that we are able to see and participate in the developmental process. Just my two cents.

Clothes have nothing to do with Zombies.. why add them in an early release alpha? They know clothes work. Its silly. They are adding things like this in to keep people happy.. to keep sales going. Thats it. Its not for development and testing purposes. They skipped the part they should have got right first: Zombies pathfinding and collision. Why did they skip it? Because they did not know how to fix it.

 

Why not then focus on player UI, and movements.. Core game mechanics not related to the physics? People respond, "artists don't do that stuff".. Well, do you know how small the team is that is on Dayz? Its not like they have an army of artists and 2 programmers. They made certain choices that come off much more financially minded than getting the project on its correct course. When Rocket said the game was fundamentally flawed, I really think he meant the zombies were totally broken and they did not know how to fix it on top of many other things. 

 

So why, if they did not know how to fix it are we here now? I mean this alpha.. it was supposed to come out last december. Do you remember that? It got pushed back a full year. And when it got released... do you remember a ton of info leading up to its release letting everyone know? No, because it did not happen. Now why, would you not promote the final release of the Dayz SA alpha that had been pushed back and had people waiting for so long? Because it was a last ditch effort to save the project. Thats why. Rocket was at the end of his rope, the game was nowhere near finished. Things had been pushed back for too long. The core mechanics were no where near what they should be, and the stars of the game were completely unfinished in almost every way. 

 

Now we all know Rocket is leaving. It would have been sooner if that alpha did not sell well. It sold well enough to bring in fresh blood and to hopefully get things fixed. I have faith in BIS overall... but I understand it takes them massive amounts of time to get things done also.

Exactly! They know clothes work and thus they know they can add clothes without introducing new bugs to the game. As long as the artists, mappers, modelers, etc are making content, why not add it? It doesn't deduct from the game in any way. If adding this content to the game *really* slowed down other aspects of development then I would get this point - but as it stands I don't. The more clothes, villages, and other content, the better!  :)

Well, there has def been some improvement in terms of movement such as stance transition, ADS transitions, rolling, etc. I'm not sure if you play on hardcore or stable but some of these changes have been quite evident in 1PP. Made me chuckle about the army of artists. This is true and even with the amount of time that has passed, I have hope that due to the team size being doubled we should see some faster improvements soon in terms of core mechanics.

I understand more where you're coming from. I knew nothing of DayZ SA or DayZ mod until December when I ran into videos on youtube and decided to buy the standalone. For that reason, I guess my patience has had a much more recent start as I haven't realized how long it's truly been in development. However, I still believe that the game has much hope, in fact more than ever now, and that the game is not fundamentally flawed (despite what rocket said).

 

It's true that they likely wanted to sell the alpha (with the promise of a finished game) in order to gather money for development, and that's just fine by me. As a result, they want to somewhat appeal to the players and release content such as clothes so we have *something* to play with in between larger updates. I don't see this as a financially minded decision, but rather a "working with the community" decision.

 

By the way I greatly appreciate your ability to share your point of view without calling me a fanboy or throwing insults around! Too bad the rest of the forumers aren't this way!

I agree with all this. It's pretty clear that the money people at BI are now in charge not Rocket or the other devs. I really hope this doesn't turn into WarZ 2.0 but I can also really see it heading that way because of the engine's limitations.

I've been involved in several pre releases and I can't think of a single alpha/beta in any game that has not ran late. We regularly hear of games, anything from indie to AAA that have pushed back their release date. Yes, it is always about coding/gameplay issues but I would rather they push it back than just release it and wipe their hands of it.

 

Just because DayZ sold 1.6(?)million copies and made $30m (just a guess can't be bothered to do the maths.. also in Aus Dollars) doesn't mean that they can inject that money immediately back into development. Unfortunately there are creditors to repay and timelines to maintain. Any new staff they bring in will spend months just catching up and learning the system. As has already been stated that the guys who design clothes and backpacks will have nothing to do with zombie pathfinding, which really needs fixing - then more zombies.

 

I feel that Irish is right though, that Zombies should have been priority over everything else at the start, they are the hook that should have kept us coming back and band us together as survivors. Then survival craft, cooking, crafting, wet weather, sickness etc etc. They basically gave us a FPS with terrible AI and thought that we wouldn't kill each other at every opportunity?

 

As things stand now, with the resources available to them, they should concentrate on zombies and bring them up to par as soon as possible, this includes path finding, wall glitching, hitting us through the floor, why can't they climb stairs?, eagle eye vision and their audio circle. I love the way they can see me from 2km across a paddock but can't hear me running 6ft behind them. I Personally have no problem with almost all hits causing bleeding, they are not punching us.. they are trying to claw our eyes out, just watch the animations.

 

but thats Alpha for you I guess.

as it should. You're a new spawn with nothing to your name and pyschopaths trying to tear your eyes out... you should be concentrating on running for your life. I spawned in svelto yesterday and was IMMEDIATELY set upon by zombieS. I loved it. I by passed the first 6 buildings i saw, i wasnt going to waste time with them chasing me... run to a piano house and found an axe.. now zombies bring it! I ended up severely wounded and bleeding everywhere. and I was only 3 minutes into my new life. This is what Dayz should be.

 

Where am I? what the hell has happened here? will i survive? FUCK!
