beedubbs 7 Posted March 20, 2014 First let me start by saying, thank you for giving us patch notes, and letting us know what will be coming in the latest patches. Let me follow by saying I think it would be great, if you mimic the approach that the Riot team took to explain their patches. My suggestion is simple, could we please :) Have a video come out with each patch note, that gives us insight as to What changes we will be experiencing in the newest patch, Why you are making certain changes, What you intend to accomplish by making these changes, and the direction your team plans to take over the next couple patches. A simple video of maybe 5-8 minutes in length (or whatever length you want) that just gives us some insight as to what is going on. I feel like it will be beneficial in a number of ways. -It will allow us to physically see and hear from some of the programmers/team members that are working on the game, which can kind of give us a better connection and family feel with the developers. ( a small, but, i think nice benefit.)-It will allow us to understand the reasoning behind such changes (which I feel is very important)-It will also allow us get a feel for whats going to happen in the future. This is all about creating a better "Dev Team to community interaction", and helping the community learn more about the game and the direction of the game. It works great for league of legends, and I remember being excited to watch the videos, and becoming excited to play the new patch.I only see benefits from doing something like this. (Other then the time it would take to actually create the video/edit/post it , which honestly couldn't take that long could it? Anyways, Hope you guys like the suggestionTake care-waLsh
speckdog 0 Posted March 20, 2014 I COMPLETELY AGREE, I personally think a simple video when a patch is released is a excellent idea! I think it would get the community more into what the patch is focusing on and taking care of. Simple idea that would have a major impact i can't peak for you all but i'm pick up what waLsh is laying down who's with us? Thanks,- Hugh Pharted
byrgesen 1341 Posted March 20, 2014 While i agree, it would be a "neet" idea, i would much rather see them spending time on important stuff. The patch notes are right there for you to read, at every single patch, so its not really that important tbh. We can survive with the devblogs comming once or twice a month, and i actually prefer having a longer video about the game, once in a while, instead of a small video at every patch.
mgc 92 Posted March 20, 2014 Good idea.Have a PR person help us to "understand the reasoning behind changes" and "get a feel for whats going to happen in the future."That will give us something to write about. He / she could do a weekly Q&A with a selection of the best submitted Q.That's a full time job right there. Koala :3 116 Posted March 20, 2014 (edited) I love the idea! :D It gives us that feeling that they would be connecting to the community more? if that makes sense? :o Edited March 20, 2014 by Koala :

Thirdthorpe 87 Posted March 20, 2014 Its a nice idea, and I'd love to see it implemented if Bohemia has the extra manpower to do it, otherwise I would much rather them make best use of their current crew by plugging away at developmental issues. Maybe eventually when theres less important work to be done.
beedubbs 7 Posted March 21, 2014 Agreed, I wouldn't want it to take away from actual productive work, but I don't imagine it would. Thanks for the feedback.
kichilron 8550 Posted March 21, 2014 If you take a look on YouTube, there are a few inside looks already. You can take a look at the Bohemia Interactivie Studios and where DayZ is being made, if you want to see that (which I read partly in your post). As for videos that come out every update: I don't think that that would help much other than tieing manpower. I wouldn't feel like there's much coming out of it. There now is more activity by the "DayZ Staff"-people on these forums, specifically Accolyte is someone who pops in mind directly. They keep us informed about hte patches themselves and I don't think the videos are really benificial. They would really only slow other things down, as someone still would have to produce them.
gemellus 77 Posted March 21, 2014 Smite does something like this: shortly before a new patch, one of the community managers goes on Twitch and reads off and explains patch notes, buffs and nerfs, and shows off new playable characters. This would be really cool for DayZ to emulate.
nuggit 246 Posted March 21, 2014 ^^2 posts up - Kichilron ^^ good view on things! I completely agree. Beedubbs, there has been a lot of videos in the past. Dean has mentioned them chewing up a lot of time and only hindering things as everyone latches on to his every word. It turns into a he said she said debate and then Rocket having to chime in to give his view. Time gets lost quickly and productivity drops off. A simple devblog is all that is needed now, we have the devtracker, which is always full of good info. The extra information is already out there in various tweets and reddit posts. There is always plenty of streams/youtube videos with useful info and chats with Dean about future things in dayz. It is there if we choose to hunt for it. To some it may not feel like it, but it has come leaps and bounds from initial release (anyone remember no bodies after death?). Communication is getting better, whilst not exhausting the devteam. They are committed to making this game better and if that means less communication from videos, for more productive time spent. I am all for it. :)
srgntpepper 85 Posted March 21, 2014 (edited) The patches don't happen at consistent rates. A patch can take a week to like 4 weeks because they just release them when they feel like its ready. So making a video in enough time can be hard to achieve, and having a new video out every week is a bit much. What I do want, is a new dev blog to come out after each goal is set. For example, right now BI wants to focus primarily on survival, like hunting and cooking, and a few other things that go along with that. I think after they achieve that goal, at least most of it(there will always be refining and little adjustments), they should create a new dev. blog that discusses their new goal and primary focus. Ex:next would be vehicles and persistent objects. I do like the weekly reports they do on tumblr, I think they should keep doing that.
