Find a flaw in my logic, because this seems too simple.

Recommended Posts

Not to sound too negative, but any clan server I've joined I've been kicked off of within minutes of connecting. The only exceptions are when clans are lurking around airfields waiting for unaware passersby. I'll personally pass on that.

I'm sure there's something that could be brainstormed to maintain the incentive to rent a server. But wait, this is the DayZ forum, where everyone knows best.

You certainly seem to think that you do.

Taking away the ability to manually join a(any) server will have affects "globally". Not just on players that want to join a particular server and server hop to take all your loot that you're obviously entitled to.

No, I'm just trying to come up with a way to combat the plethora of complaints on these forums regarding server-hoppers and ghosters. Also, I get tired of seeing a hundred 2/40 and 1/30 servers, and maybe a handful of 40/40 servers. I've yet to see you make a suggestion.

Some people prefer 40/40, death match servers where you find someone to kill every 20 minutes and some prefer servers with ~15 people. Yes you could make a filter but why, there are much better ways of solving ghosting and the other stupid stuff.

I, for example would love to play on one server all the time, where you know the other players, can have clan wars etc... Private hives, I miss you :D

Sometimes you wanna go

Where everybody knows your name

And they're always glad you came

You wanna be where you can see

Our troubles are all the same

You wanna be where everybody knows your name...

:D

Attempting to patchfix server hopping for loot prior to loot respawning is a waste of time, energy, and oxygen. It will get sorted out, so chill.

You haven't found a flaw, you're acting as if you came straight out of Elwynn. QQ? Really?

I've been trying to come up with an actual fix to the current state of the game. My suggestion has nothing to do with loot respawn. Loot respawn will not fix the server hopping. If loot is random, hop to where the most loot spawns (Cherno/Elektro) on a low population server. So yeah, amazing idea dude.

I've been taking people's suggestions and implementing them into my thought process; so far I've been able to address the two main issues stated:

  • Persistent storage, and;
  • Differences in latency with friends due to location

So far all of your posts have been pointless. But keep farmin' 'em.

Hi.

Sorry but tents will never follow you, there's just too many players, eventually your tent will spawn on another.

Your idea would be great if the servers were all owned and paid for by bohemia. Of course then we would probably have to head down the crappy subscription road. Why would people pay for servers that they can't use. Who gets to boot the script kids if the server owner isn't allowed to access his own server.

Regards.

Oh no. Server hoppers ruin everything thread.

So Q for you- when you need a weapon/ammo/loot, do you jump on a 40 man server? Jumping on a 40 man server probably means you KOS or are one of those annoying bambis who punch people out for loot. (Lets go start another KOS thread and how KOS is so terrible baaaaad, mmkay?)

Or do you pick a low pop server? (explain to me how thats different that server hopping).

Because letting the game limit me in MY choice of server is bad design.

If I want to play in a 2/40 server I should be able to.

If I want to play in a 39/40 server I should be able to.

If I want to play on the server where I've gotten to know the "locals" I should be able to.

I don't want to be forced to a server because the latency (at that exact moment) dictates that that's where I should go.

Third-party private servers are ok for a mod or an online add-on to a single player game, but in a fully-fledged standalone online game, the servers should be centrally controlled and run. I think that's the only viable way to run the game when it gets closer to release.

Once you have that, you can lock characters to servers, which allows you to eliminate server hopping and ghosting, and makes persistent storage work properly. If people want to play on different servers with their friends or a clan they should be allowed to keep multiple characters on the go at once, but each time you join a new server you should have to start again as a new spawn. I don't see a problem with that - you could limit it to, say, 5 characters per player. That's the only way to really create the persistent game-world that's required to fulfill DayZ's potential.

And yeah, you should be allocated your server automatically, with group formation tool in the game menu.

The system in place now is fine at the moment, while new features are introduced and tested; but it would be a bit Mickey Mouse for the finished game to operate in the same way.

Many servers still have 'join=kick' or 'reset' in the title. other servers have a whitelist. other servers don't save your character.

Would you like to be automatically assigned to one of these?

So how do you avoid it?

Shit is broken. If you debate that, you're obviously part of the problem. Server hopping happens. Ghosting happens. People run around on empty servers gearing up, then switch to full servers to kill people. WORKING AS INTENDED.

Cute meme reference. They hurt, don't they?

Wait so your trying to give us a solution? But the thing is I really don;t see what the problem is.

I feel that's the direction BI needs to go if they're serious about DayZ. Having private hives for a game like this in its mod version is one thing, but this is its own product. Unfortunately, this isn't Counter-Strike where you just jump on a server and kill people; we need some sort of stability from the producers of the game and can't continue relying on the public (because the public isn't moderated, and stuff happens, e.g: kicking for no reason, server restarts when you kill an admin, etc.).

Server hoppers do ruin everything. We need to design a game for the future, not tweak its current state. Current state DayZ is a joke. We all know you server hop, you've made a thousand threads about it, but it's not working as intended. Argue it all you want, broseph.

I don't want to be forced to a server because the latency (at that exact moment) dictates that that's where I should go.

1) Not when it's considered exploitive behavior to do so. In the alpha it's not such a big deal, but gearing up on a low population server only to switch to a full server when you're ready to actually play the game is once the game's released.

2) Then add them to your friends list. If you don't want to add them to your friends list, obviously you don't care that much about playing with them.

3) This game is 100% designed around player interaction. You're not only robbing yourself of the game's core intent when you run around on a deserted server, you're using a weak excuse to supersede a gimmicky mechanic.

I despise Bronies. It's a sickness.

Me too.

That would be an easy fix by the time the game launches. Once these badmins are actually policed and server rules enforced, they'll be fixed easily enough.

Well as long as they are female it's cool by me. xP

Heh,but i'm not the one to talk,i watch romace genre anime.

Now impale me to a stick.... :)

I do too, it's all good.

Cause I want to join my clans server.

But what's to stop you from farming your clan's server for loot and then switching over to full servers to do whatever it is your clan does? It doesn't matter if you're murdering or medic-ing, still exploitive. If you're a serious clan, I'm sure you already have a website/forums and a Team Speak server set up. It'd be very easy to organize with those tools.

I'd rather once loot respawns see the character tied to the server.

"Server Hopper? Never heard of her!"

oh oh there I've gone and done it.  people are about to flame me.

I'm not going to flame you, I just don't want to be tied to a single server because sometimes it's full, sometimes it's not.

I like how you completely avoided my 2 questions, but just sit down puffing out of your butt "server hoppers do ruin everything."

LOL.

Nice argument, bra.

Maybe one day I'll meet you as you're looting a low pop server. Or better yet, when I exit and re-spawn right outside the jail at NEAF. KAAAPOOWWW! Who's got an M4 now, booty bandit?

Cute meme reference. They hurt, don't they?

You failing to understand that the timeout for switching servers is planned to be adjusted to an exponential increase and loot going to respawn, WORKING AS INTENDED. Shit isn't broken, it just isn't implemented yet. There's a huge difference, guy.

Meme's don't hurt, friend. Nor were they anything special other than taunts because you have shit behind your desire to try and complicate joining a sever just to "fix" server hopping and it's quite apparent. Please, continue because this is becoming very humors to me.

I don't server hop for loot. I also like how you use overzealousness to try to prove your points, though. It's indicative of someone who's not very skilled at conveying his ideas in an intelligent way. But, that's cool. The in-game threats are cool, too. Reading some of the stupid deaths you've suffered (and unfortunately felt the need to articulate on the forums) basically removes any credibility from any threat you could make, haha.

Also, bra = ittybittbra_strapless.jpg. Did you mean, "brah"?

Link me to a developer saying the way they intend to combat these issues is with an increased timer. That's news to me. It's also the worst idea ever. There are too many factors that can take place to justify using an "exponentially" longer timer: client crashes, admin kicks, etc. There's no failure of understanding, I follow the twittersphere and other forms of social media pertaining to DayZ quite closely, and I haven't seen that mentioned. So yeah, toss me a link.

"Hey guys, what's the best way to fight the current exploitive behavior behind ghosting and server hopping?"

"LOL LONGER TIMERS."

The memes were accurate and depicted what I could've wasted more time typing to you in a few seconds of Photoshop. A picture's worth a thousand words. You should follow suit.

Again, you're contributing nothing. Your trolling is weak.

Actually auto assigning servers is counter productive because instead of having popular servers, you just have servers which won't end well as seen in other games (i.e. leaving a lot of servers as just dust-collectors). Also, people rent/want to play on private (clan/community) servers as well. How will a person get on his own server?

Another problem you mentioned yourself, queue, why should people have to wait for the server to free up instead of just finding a server that has enough slots for all your m8s?

And you are saying that because you don't like to play one way others should too. I could continue to crush your so called logic but well, it should be all self-explanatory if you just stop for a moment and think.
