Spidey (DayZ) 78 Posted March 16, 2014 Wow. I don't think there's a single persoon out there in this world who's worse than me. When something happens, I always do the biggest bullsh*t there is and most of the time I kill myself. Well not literally, but yeah, I do things that lead to my death. Right now I was for example at NE airfield, saw a guy in the comm tower with an axe. I had an SKS with 3 bullets. So I sneaked up upon him, told him to drop his axe and stuff, you know how it goes. Well instead of waiting at the entrance and pointing my gun at the stairs, I just went up there , wasted my 3 shots to a wall in close fight and got killed. Seriously why did I do that? I want to die and be born again as a different person plz. This is horrible. :D Just wanted to share this with you. How was your day ?
Guest Posted March 16, 2014 Haha mate it's all about the expereince My number one tip for you is wait. I walked upon 4 guys today, 2 unarmed and one had and axe and another a magnum, I could have easily taken them out, but I was outnumbered.I tracked them down the path to a "base" I say base but it was just a barn that they used. I managed to pick the 2 armed guys out at the entry whils thte 2 others hid inside. I got all their gear and left, Needless to say today was a good day Good luck man
dimitri3p0 99 Posted March 16, 2014 A bit better than that. However don't get down on yourself. I think that because DayZ can be very stressful and emotion-provoking, in a way it encourages us to act in extremes, and I for one also end up doing stupid things too. It can be hard to stay patient when you're heart is racing and your hands are shaking, but I'm learning after many many hours that slow and steady usually comes out on top. Also, having the high ground can be pretty beneficial.Cheers
plexico 386 Posted March 16, 2014 This happens to the best of us, when you first start playing you will find yourself making stupid mistakes and getting yourself killed. Over time you'll become the one killing these people who make stupid mistakes.
nexyo 3 Posted March 16, 2014 My day was almost perfect , i was at the NWA Airfield for about 3 hours trying to find a god damned M4 , then i got in a building , saw a guy looting , and headshoted him with my FNX :D ( his friend was prone on the floor and wasn't moving so i thought he was dead , but then he moved and i got him too ) after that , I ended up with 2 M4 with attachments and tons of ressources :D
ninjaontour 123 Posted March 16, 2014 (edited) The true key to this game is patience. I could probably count on one hand the amount of times that rash actions have cost the lives of my squad and I. I'm fortunate enough to play with a small group of some patient-assed mother-huggers, to the point where if we've got targets cornered in a building, we'll easily wait an hour before making a move. A good tip in this scenario when you've got someone cornered is to cover their exits and wait. If a message comes up in red stating "xxxx is losing connection" you should send in ONE scout (if you have one). The reason for this is because that message comes up when someone ALT+F4's, leaving you 30 seconds to bust their scalp for combat logging. Also, once you've locked down the target, STOP MOVING. A lot of players neglect this, and to their cost. When you set up shop, double tap ALT and use that mode to look around, instead of waving your gun around every time you turn. It's like the old adage goes, "Practice makes Perfect". Anyway, good luck OP, hope some of this helps. Edited March 16, 2014 by ninjaontour
Irish. 4886 Posted March 16, 2014 (edited) OP, you are already on the right track by learning from your mistakes. ;) Beating yourself up, while it may seem contradictory to progress, is often a great motivator to improve yourself. Walking Wounded 199 Posted March 16, 2014 Do wyat ive been doing for 3 days.. no one has anything I want or anything I need. I am the perv!
Lumeria 27 Posted March 16, 2014 Don't worry I suck as well XD. The reason why, for me is a lack of experience in the game and my conscience. If I kill someone I feel about 80% of the time like crap afterwards. This leads to a vicious cycle of not killing someone I should which leads to my death. I also am a bit too trusting which also leads to my death.I feel this will change with time, or I will snap one day after being KoS'd for the 500th time, and just KOS as well, thought that would make me feel bad I think. Forrelist 236 Posted March 16, 2014 Not everything will go your way unforunately. I climbed the top of that pipe chimney in Berezino to see if I could spot anyone nearby. There was a gang of three running directly underneath me in full military gear. Instead of climbing down the ladder, I instead decided to base jump without a parachute. Many rages were had.

I was in Balota with like 3 Canadians trying to get a guy out of a tower... who had a gun. What do I do...? Attempt to storm the castle with a fire axe. Needless to say I ended up on the tower floor cussing at the man with the gun from a black screen stating " YOU ARE DEAD" I always try to do the "right thing" and start a convo and state my business. Normally resulting a 7.62 to the face. Apparently SOME people have forgotten their people skills in the wasteland.

nimmerzz 17 Posted March 16, 2014 To the OP, you gave up both of your advantages. You knew where he was and you had a better weapon with long range. By going in you negated both. You should have waited until he tried to leave. If you were trying to hold him up you tell him to get on ground while from cover. If he doesnt comply you shoot. Or you can just wait until he clears the area. You have to keep the upper hand in this game.
Geckofrog7 1168 Posted March 16, 2014 My dog once climbed up on my desk when I went to get a snack, and successfully wasted my entire m4 mag by stepping on my mouse. It was in cherno on a full server.

What if you hit 2 and missed one, but he was still alive? What if some armed friends of his arrived on scene? Yeah.. Always have a backup plan.

When I first started playing the mod I would get such a rush when danger got involved and I would make stupid mistakes like that as well.Once you accept the fact that you will lose your stuff a lot and get through a ton of these types of situations, you will get better. Just keep it up and slowly you will become more relaxed in these situations and your play will evolve from there. -Learn from each death-Try not to make the same mistake twice-Try new things and get comfortable doing it-Most of the time, they probably feel the same way you do
wmike20052 6 Posted March 17, 2014 Best advice i can give, if you want to survive for a couple days, especially in higher populated servers. Just play the game as if it was you out there in Real Life (lel) and act accordingly. Dont run down the tracks or streets. Stick to the treelines or a row or two further out, stop every 100 or so feet and scan the environment, especially behind you. Also try to learn from each death. Each death should be a lesson. Sometimes you can be on point, doing absolutely everything you have to do, but still get killed by a camper that has been sitting out in his spot for hours, or someone that just logged behind the spot you so happened to rest at. Sometimes its just the luck of the draw. But just remember the most important thing ive realized, if your feeling comfortable, even just a little bit, STOP and get back on point.

Spidey (DayZ) 78 Posted March 17, 2014 I would be glad to give you tips, and advice and even advise you ingame in real time over skype or something if you are interested.Yes please, my steam nick is Nathaniel, please add me and we can do some playin and stuff :) I actually am in need of a partner, or a group as Ive been playing alone for along tim enow, and it seems that, if you are ina group, you are a LOT safer than if alone. Just because of the fact that the more pairs of eyes you have - the more aware you are of everything, so even if you have literally no idea where the cocky sniper is, there is gonna probably be atleast one guy from your group who will know it. Thanks for the tips everyone, actually I think the best way to play this game is to imagine that you actually are in there, like in RL. That way you are most cautious and trying to play safe, because you simply are not willing to take the risk of death. But thats sometimes hard to do, when you are frustrated but want to play, mostly you will just end up running arround, not even caring anymore, just trying to get loot ASAP so you can get back to your character that died and almost got you a heart attack because of the rage :D
Liege 70 Posted March 17, 2014 I think I may be as bad as you... I believe out of about 12 gunfights I have survived 1 (my mate didnt!) I am terrible at the combat side of things. I went to rescue my mate the other day who had been handcuffed and Burlap'd by 2 bandits on the way to elektro. He was talking to keep them busy and himself alive whilst feeding me as much info on TS as he could and they decided to use him for bait while camping in the woods and shoot anyone who came to rescue him.. I finally arrive and I get lucky, they are standing next to him on the road as they are trying to repostion him. my mate is screaming kill em killem!! I'm all like " nah mate I need to get closer so I dont miss." I close to within about 60m and shoot 6 well placed shots at the nearest target, not spraying them everywhere. I would have sworn they hit but no blood... damn desync. the guy moves turns and shoots his mosin twice.. I am dead. My mate pretended he didn't know me and they let him go, bandaged him and let him loot my dead body. positive i guess?
Uutgrunnen 96 Posted March 17, 2014 You are not alone bro. If sucking at Dayz SA was an olympic sport than I would be the defending champion. Think of a stupid way to die and I have done it in even a more stupid way. Perhaps we could start a clan and hold contests in the most ignorant and stupid way to die.

I would probably just exit the game if ur going to wait 30 minutes and why would they need to alt-f4 when they can just exit which is essentially the same thing? If you're not shooting at them after 30 minutes imo, combat has ceased (I would say 5 minutes is a fair amount of time to wait before logging).
