Stafftiner 4 Posted March 14, 2014 I recently read a rumor in a german DayZ forums, that you can notice if there are enemies nearby you in game (by pressing "P" and checking bandwidth of other players). Me and a friend were standing like 5m away from each other, our bandwidth had a difference of like 10-20. The more he was then walking away from me, the higher got the difference between our bandwidths. We tried that on different servers, at different times of the day, in 90% of all cases it was always same result. The closer we were standing together, the less was the difference between our bandwidths. Do you guys think that there's any truth in this rumor, or just coincidence?
cywehner1234 582 Posted March 14, 2014 Why are you posting this on the forums if it is true? Inb4 lock and hide.
xRann 126 Posted March 14, 2014 (edited) A spike and high threshold bandwidth would be a sign that you and the server are having much more communication, when you consider how items are processed it very well could be a noticeable result of proximity to another player. I don't think you'd be able to narrow it down and have near identical bandwidth and use that to find who you're near because usage is not cookie-cutter per client but situational for each client. *editI have no gear but you have a fuckton. You wouldn't need much in terms of information sent to you for my state. I would need a bunch of information and would experience higher bandwidth while being updated with that. **editThis is also related to http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/180088-desynclag-in-game-solution/I can't remember if Rocket was talking about it on twiter or reddit, but as more work continues on the net bubbles we should see less bandwidth usage and desync due to the way items and whatnot are processed and distributed. Elle 562 Posted March 14, 2014 interesting... I have noticed that I get a rather substantial "bump" in my performance when players join the server I'm on - tested this with low pop servers - suddenly everything hangs up for a sec or so and I press P to see someone just logging on. haven't tested any other stuff related to the P menu however. enforcer1975 1111 Posted March 14, 2014 So now everyone also goes PeePee all the time to see if they have someone closing in on them while sniping from a hilltop? Electronic warfare ftw!!!
Judopunch 523 Posted March 15, 2014 When other players enter your network 'bubble' you start sharing information with them. The bubble is somewhere around 1-1.5km. Depending on the number of people's bubbles overlapping it has been posted that your 'bandwidth' increases.
Estyles 14 Posted March 15, 2014 When ever I get a lag spike I just assume a player is within 1 km of me and it has proven right far more than wrong.

DMack 60 Posted April 18, 2014 Back about 10 years ago when I was playing WoW I had a HDD that was crapping the bed. It was noisy, but the great part is that when someone was about to come into view the HDD would start making a loud grinding noise so I always knew when someone was getting close. LOL Kuddos for figuring this out.
res 373 Posted April 18, 2014 This is old news. But still cool that more people find out about it.

Dawgstyl 51 Posted April 18, 2014 This has been tested by so many of the guys in our clan, it's only right every once and a while. Here is why, the bandwidth showing up can change drastically from PC to PC depending of the video settings. I run to video cards (crossfire) and all setting maxed out and a few of the guysrunning with me only have one card, the bandwidth can be as much as 3k off between myself and the group. So someone running the game on all low settings or clouds andso no turned off will have a lower rendering(bandwidth) per location. I have seen many places on the map that have the same bandwidth so some one in tent city can render thesame as someone on the other side of the map. Those running 2 cards test it out and you will see...
chrismgtis (DayZ) 35 Posted April 18, 2014 (edited) I know for a fact that it is true and it works extremely well.
