Go North!....or west.

Recommended Posts

So yesterday I logged in on a HC server. Having died a while ago and been playing on a regular server mostly (due to my low fps, 3rd person is easier to handle). So I'm at the coast at Three Valley's (This is one of my favourite spots on the map. Head up the road to the red roofed barn and look up the hill to the right and you'll see a radio tower. Climb that and then take a look at the view). I look through the 3 houses there, all looted. I run to the brown barn then the red roofed barn and the house further up, all looted. I come back to the coast and see another fresh spawn (who doesn't have a mic) and then another FS runs by so all 3 decide to go to Electro. We get to Electro and no gear anywhere (my friend later joined me, he spawned at Berezino and that had been picked clean to), everywhere has been picked clean.

So the guys I'm with decide they're going to swap servers. I did mention we should push north but no go. So I'm starving to death and just go for it, taking the north road out of electro. The first house I come to (about 300m up the road?) has one can of food in it. I then proceed to carry following the road and every town i pass, all the doors are closed. It's not until I get to Stary that a few choice houses have been looted (Garages, the piano house - you know, all the ones that spawn guns) - it was quite odd seeing these specific places looted, obviously someone had been determined to find a bang stick.

So I got geared up pretty good for my efforts. Energized and hydrated, backpack and a fire axe (found that in the house with the tuna) and a few other bits. I have a double barreled with 2 bullets lol. It was touch and go for a while, but going through and looting inland saved my life. So why did the other players choose to go to a different server is my question? Does everyone just stick to the coast and if they find no gear, just server hop?

Inland is the way to go. I think the coastal region appeals to many because it's easier not to get lost.

About server hopping: I think we all did this at some point--particularly when we're new to the game. (I did that the first few times I played.) But that should stop once a player learns about fair-play.

I have found  this to be the case more times than not.

90% of loot runs with me finding all the "boom stick" spots to be picked clean, but the food is always in abundance. Now for experimental, that is a different story...

Not so much concerned with the server hopping, just seems odd that with all that map, these guys decided to just stick to the coast and waste 5 minutes waiting to go to another server. The issue is compounded with the stupidity of the map parts. Maps seem rare enough anyway and yet when you find one, it's pot luck whether it's the area you're in. Do we really need 8 maps and is the lack of them keeping players on the coast and do we want people using the cheat map (which they'll do with a lack of maps in game). Maybe they just find running up and down the coast the easy option.

Butthurt OP is butthurt.

P.S: Still no original content to be found, but that's not surprising around here.

 @ Jexter. Slightly off-topic idea.

I hope we see an in-game map eventually. Maybe something which utilizes a Fog Of War function so you can see only the parts of the map which you've already explored (this can reset per fresh spawning). I don't think it's an unreasonable idea nor should it mess with player immersion--consider it your toon's memory.

 Thoughts?

Actually I don't see OP being butthurt at all - I just see some fool trying to regulate posts and make snide comments.  If you don't want to read it - keep moving, no need to be the DayZ forum police - that is what the mods are here for.  Stop crying like a baby bro.

Original thread is original.

^just sounds like "WHAAAAaaaa! WHAAaaaaa!!" to most of the people reading it.

There's a map in the game already. You must find the pieces and assemble it.

I know. I have one piece. I'm talking about a key function (M). :)

If people would stop wasting bandwidth on unoriginal ideas that have already been posted by using the search function, there would be no snide remarks. You're not helping the community by spamming similar threads every few pages.

Also, didn't realize OP had a big brother. You're very intimidating; I'd best change my ways!

Oh. The Mod has this feature, but I don't know how I feel about it. I like the idea of navigating by landmarks; that's how I learned Chernarus+.

How is pointing out the truth making me butthurt? 2nd idiotic post and +10 stupidity points for failing to understand the nature of forums.

Now go and prove there's nothing original because I think you're talking BS.

^^ True. I like using my wits to find my way around. But sometimes I need a map and it's a hassle to Tab/alt out to look at my Bookmarked maps. I use DayZDB & DayZHQ (I like the topographical features of HQ).

You're claiming there have been no other threads posted regarding high traffic areas being looted whilst less-visited areas remain untouched? Is that actually what you're claiming? Because that's all I've read in this entire waste of bandwidth.

I've literally seen "stay away from the coast; go inland" a HUNDRED times on these forums, which is the essence of your thread.

Unoriginal thread is unoriginal.

EDIT: Typo. Fucking phone. :/

Oh really, care to prove how it's harming the community? And who put you in charge of bandwidth? Were you teachers pet and hall monitor at school too?

No my post was about why people choose not to move north and what keeps them stuck to the coast - so well done for not even reading a thread your criticising fool.

No, just tired of seeing repeated "ideas" pushing valuable content to the bottom of the forum. I've lost faith that people will eventually learn how to properly use a fucking forum.

If you people would stop thinking every idea you have is brilliant and original and instead focus your energy on doing a quick pre-emptive search, then maybe Rocket would actually use these forums as a credible source of community feedback.

He uses Reddit for a reason.

I read it; I read every thread I post in, and this will be my last one I make here.

How about this: your idea has merit and I agree with it, it's just been posted numerous times already.

everybody goes to electro or berezino, it's boring, they need to move one of the firestations in electro to a different town.

So what do you think is the reason people stick to the coasts and how can we persuade them to venture into the unknown. Maps for one - just one map of the area, we don't need 8 ffs. Road signs on the maps are as they are written in the game - that's pretty fucking obvious right there. How about adding in a small section of story on the main screen, like a "You wake up on the shore blah blah blah" then hinting "There's a good chance a lot of the coastal towns will have been looted already..." kind of thing.

I asked my mate at work who just started playing and he said he stuck to the coast because he didn't know what he was doing. That's fine, maybe that's just the way things are but how are you going to keep players on your server if people are just going to server hop when they find no gear. Restart every hour?

Maybe spawn locations should be placed all over the map and not just on the coast. More diversity means more chance of finding some loot perhaps.
