Help with finding current location?

Recommended Posts

Well, I was on my way in DayZ Standalone to the Northwest Airfield from the Northeast Airfield, and turns out I got lost. I ran for a total of 3 hours and hit 2 different ends of the map. I found this little area with buildings in it, THESE ARE THE FIRST AND ONLY BUILDINGS I'VE SEEN SINCE I LEFT.

Here are some screenshots of the location. I would love it if someone could point out where I was on the map, I tried to take as many screenshots as possible of the area. Thanks!

Possible route I took: http://i.imgur.com/aXLHQ8N.jpg (I have no idea after I passed Devil's Castle.)

That's all I have, I can't really describe where I went because I have no idea, a map with a red dot where I would be located would be amazing.

Thanks, RYRK.

You are at Lopatino which is West of NW Airfield. Check the map, locate the Lopatino and move from there http://dayzdb.com/map/chernarusplus#3.089.094

If you follow the dirt road to the East, you'll end up at the West Walls of the NW airfield.

Is it sad that I knew exactly where you were by the first screenshot?  As others have said grid ref 019 046.

I recommend going out and learning some navigation skills.  Learn how to find North, go into the wilderness, get yourself lost, and find your way back to civilization.  Avoid relying on a compass if you can.

I personally have my HC character roaming around the wilds of the North right now, been up there for a few days now, and I could probably triangulate my location down to a couple hundred meters.

I have been there before with my friend. I think they're planning on doing something with it... maybe.

Find a road sign.. read what it says (will be in russian). Then use this map to find that location: http://www.izurvive.com/#c=-49;-107;4

Hard to read a road sign when this is the first town I've seen in ages. Thanks anyways.

Turns out I ran about 36,000m. I also haven't been past NW Airfield before, and this was my first time visiting it in standalone. As I've said, there was no real reason to go past the airfield in the mod. I have basic navigation skills, but I had no compass and totally lost my sense of direction once I was in those forests. "I'll have you know, I have over 300 confirmed kills in combat." I guess you have amazing navigation skills to find your character when you can actually see landmarks and buildings. It's hard to know where are you when all you see is trees and hills, including the fact that everything looks exactly the same.

he was trying to help no need to be a dick about it, u asked the question then get all pissy when people try to help and its quite easy to navigate without a compass in the woods u can use the sun or clouds to get a bearing then head in the direction u want untill u hit a road or other landmark

It's cool, no hard feeling. I tend to go on anecdotes that some take as an insult or something, but no biggie.

Anyways OP glad you got back on track. Have fun at the airfield and best of luck with your future travels.

Not to poke, but...yes. Learn the map, takes some time but it's worth it. Some areas I know simply because of the bush placements and trees...so do many, many others. No need for a map or compass, use the sun, moon, and clouds. Get lost so much you cannot become lost or never learn the map and rely on dayzdb.

I meant in that town... so I don't know why it would be hard now that you are in a town

as many have said navigate by the sun and clouds but i don't know why the clouds unless they move in a certain direction or something? I was using the sun aswell as the rising and setting of the sun to navigate but up untill recently it started moving south to north haha, in learning my way though now :D

Clouds always move from west to east.

All I hear is the map is too small....and yet here we are with a player that got lost for hours.  Seems rather large to me but I'm not trying to get vehicles put in the game as some are.

Thats the trainstation in the western most part of the map. Funny that I had the same experience as you when i first started playing. I run around for hours and ended up in the same place. I found my first m4 there though :) I also run into farm or factory way up north with around 10 storage garages and a giant lollipop like figure in the middle.
