.22lr Damage is absurd.

Personally, I'm more confused about the 50 m zeroing of the .22 Sporter than I am about the damage. In a video that was posted earlier here somewhere they were shooting it pretty accurately at about 400+ m. Can someone please explain how they calculate the zeroing in the game? Or give me the actual D-max?

I think they have a 50 meter zeroing as that's a pretty common zero for 22 rifles. If anything, its a bit much.

 

Most of my squirrel rifles are set between 20-40 meters. Not too much rise at close range, but you can reach out a little.

There you go. I've never shot a .22 so thanks for the info. Can you adjust the zeroing in-game?

DayZ is not a realistic game. It has 3rd person view which itself is a huge sign that you shouldn't expect realism. A .22 to the heart or head will kill you in real life but for the sake of balance it should not be so powerful in the game.

Maybe the problem with .22 LR rifle is not it's power, but that you have to look for magazine.

Without magazine, it is probably kinda painfull to use since you have to fiddle in inventory after each shot.

 

Btw for the sake of balance, I think 2 headshots to kill aint that bad.

I view 3rd person perspective as a sort of "replacement" if you will, for the near instantaneous reactions that humans can make in real life, which you obviously can't in Day Z. 

Plus, why should weapons be -ahem- "balanced"? Balanced against what?

Well, I was more referring to the clunkiness of the mouse, including the horrid acceleration issues, but, yeah, that works too. I played once on 1PP, and it was rather sucky. I am almost certain that I have a wider range of vision (counting peripherals) and can turn my head faster than that derp that is my avatar.

We are getting to some serious discussion here and I love it :) (Though the idea that we are having this kind of discussion over a game in sort of ridiculous)

So

Well it looks nasty in tissue too. 7.62 makes entrancehole size of little finger, but behind the skin you could fit your fist in there, also the hole it makes when it leaves the body is sick, really sick.

But we are talking about game which we run around with food cans in our pockets (possible helmets in our pants,vests and jackets) which hit with anything else than full-size rifle round will propably stop incoming bullets, especially when talking about 0.22lr.

So conclusion:

-0.22lr is weakest round ever, slighly better than airgun and is used to hunt PESTS and small animals.

-People will and have died from 0.22lr

-This is a game, and should not be expected to be irl-realistic because in gameplay view that would suck

-And as a game I think it should take many,many shots to kill a player with 0.22 (Because of gear we are wearing)

There are a lot of documented cases of people being repeatedly shot with M16's and running away and living to fight another day.

And I'm not talking about doped up Afghsnis who took handfuls of meth and pain killers before engagements in Fallujah.

All available data for hydrostatic shock is highly conflicting and thus unreliable.

Indeed. Also you can move your head more instinctively to look at a place you identified a sound as coming from instead of having to scan the surroundings.

 

I prefer playing on hardcore for several reasons, but I'm planning on getting one of those face recognition thingies where you can turn your head irl and your toon's head turns as well.

 

Unfortunately there is a bug that occasionally snaps your view back into a different direction when freelooking, so I'm waiting for feedback on my report before going that route.

If getting wounded would pose a serious health threat like IRL any gun would be treated as dangerous and lethal instead of beeing laughed upon. Right now you get hit, show the shooter your middle finger then stick it into the bullet hole to plug the wound and run away laughing your ass off.

I believe most .22 rifle competitions take place at 50m ranges, maybe up to 100m, at least around where I live. So it makes sense that it's zeroed at 50m. And the current bullshit "cone of fire" system probably makes it impossible to hit anything beyond that anyway :).

I too can sit a meter from a corner or wall and see behind it or over it in real life.

 

DayZ is not a realistic game. For gamey reasons, 3rd person view and balance in guns has to be in.

If 3PP isn't at least attempting to emulate peripheral vision, then 1PP is like playing with blinkers and a neckbrace on. In real life, you have an estimated 180 degrees of vision, where you can see clearly. In Day Z, it looks like you have 75-90 at best.

that's true...still .22 are not very powerful in any game I've played (idk in real life, but in EVERY game they suck) they could use a mini boost, but nothing more

I could, but this was directly relating to the myth that hydrostatic shock is somehow this ridiculous 100% scientifically proven event that causes .556 rounds to blow basketball sized exit wounds on people.

I mean, shit, the guy who essentially founded Delta Force took a .50 BMG to the gut and was triaged as beyond hope, yet survived a full day on sheer force of will and incredibly phyical strength.

My point wasn't to say hydrostatic shock does or doesn't exist, but "round superiority" debates always get under my skin.

Are you serious? 1 shot to head is different from 1 shot to the body which the Mosin consistently does atm.

Not saying it isn't fun, but it gets awfully easy to print good scores.

Indeed the cone of view in first person is a lot more narrow than what a human can see in reality. And I've heard the "third person perspective being used as a replacement" argument before and I agree with it to some extent. Not only that but in first person you can't see on top of shelves, which in reality you would be able to by simply standing on your toes or hopping up a little. In third person view you can see the top of those shelves so I'd say it's a decent trade off.

I don't shoot rifles much, mostly pistols. But the .22 rifle shooters at our range are all hanging out at the 50m range. To compensate, we don't really have many indoor ranges, and the winters are horrible :).
