No... just no..

 

Forest are like the safest place to be in DayZ .. and I don't think they'll ever add any other "monsters" or whatever you wanna call it than zombies.

 

Pack of hungry wolves or ravenous bear should prove some challenge without breaking immersion (in my opinion).

I still want infected Apes. Broken out of the Zoo of Cherno. Jump from the trees, steal your helmet, throw feces at you and bite you in the head.

 

Srsly:

....but as Dean said in a Q&A session, they are aiming for 3 types of animals: Predator (Wolves and Bears), Prey (Food), Companions (Dogs, horses)...

EDIT: In uber seriousness Irish has a great point, but there should be a risk to reward thought process to traversing the woods, do I possibly fight this

What about the sybirian lynx? They are semi-dangerous in reallife, and in addition with "pet-animals" like dogs (wich lynx like to attack ) they could be a danger for all who are travelling with their dog alone through the woods.

According to wikipedia, the average territory size is about 250 km², we could tweak it down so that we have maybe 10-15 areas where a "territory" could spawn. One territory could contain maybe atleast one grown lynx and 2-5 juveniles. There are so many possibilitys, as they mark their core-territory heavily with their urine, wich smells really badly, so you could know when you are very close to the core of the territory, where the probability of an encounter rises extremely.

I think the woods will be more dangerous once they add in bigger prey. As it was already talked about with bears. Even wolves in packs could pose as a threat to a lone adventurer. 

 

I would like to see a bigger variety of wildlife though. I'm hoping that as development gets further we will see more wildlife added. I think we should see big game cats (if they are native). Possible threats when running through the swamp as well?

 

I mean this game isn't just about Player vs. The infected. It's also Player vs. environment.

Has anyone read the World War Z book? There were loads of weird things that were as dangerous as zombies.

 

1. Quislings: Insane humans who imitate zombies, they could be like zombies but less clumsy and better at fighting

 

2. Ferals: Humans, often children who have lost their parents, that have devolved into animals and will try to kill you. They could be like zombies but use melee weapons and are more intelligent.

 

3. LMOEs: "Last man on Earth" solitary humans living on their own in the wilderness. They are normally insane with loneliness. However, you can assume that the LMOEs are the players.

 

4. Feral packs: Packs of feral domestic dogs (not wolves) who hunt and kill survivors. Possibly could be the most dangerous things in game other than players.

 

5. F-Lions or 'Flies': These are domestic cats that have grown in to about double the size of a normal cat due to natural selection. They are called 'flies' because they appear to be able to fly. They either drop from trees or make massive pouncing attacks from cover. These probably wouldn't be able to kill you but can you imagine how scary it would be to be walking through the woods and have a bloodthirsty kitty just come out of no where?

 

6. Of course there are other wild animals as well. In eastern Russia you could expect wolves, bears and even tigers.

O.o I do that sometimes, but but nobody falls for it...i want a "imitate zombie" animation^^

Well, these 2 points I can answer with asomethign Dean said: He wants to be the Players to be the only living, not infected humans in DayZ.

They are normally insane with loneliness. However, you can assume that the LMOEs are the players. *lol*

dogs will come...but as companions. Maybe there also will be feral dogs introduced as well.would be nice...

Not again the cat thread^^ And DayZ isn't set that far in the future that natural selection can bring out a breed of huge flying cats O.o But on the other hand...cats can survive without humans, sicne (in comparism to dogs) most of them are still able to hunt their food alone...or eat their owners when they are dead

Add the Slenderman to roam around the forests. That should get everyone up and running and thinking twice before entering any forests.

That book was pretty stupid, IMHO. The zombies weren't even good, and the military sucked balls because the author didn't understand how modern artillery or .50BMG bullets work.

It wouldn't necessarily take that long. Some cats are already pretty large, if ALL cats instead of them were killed by dogs or zombies then the new generation would all be larger cats. I still think killer kitties, even at a normal size would be a nice jump scare for walking in the woods.

 

I would really like to see the dog packs too. They would be proper scary. Imagine you are walking along and suddenly hear barking behind you. You couldn't out run them for long so you would have to find a ladder or a tree (if they could add that). Then you would be trapped and would either have to fight or wait for help. Also fighting 5 or 6 dogs that would be recognizable as current breeds, that jump at you and try to rip out your throat would be terrifying.

What!! The book was awesome! and he had an entire chapter about the military with tons of info on how they couldn't beat the zombies with modern weapons.

Sorry, about to go slightly off-topic, but....

Do you know what kind of damage a .50BMG round will do to the human body? A zombie won't be getting back up from a .50 hit to the torso, as described in the book, it would be torn in half at least. A zombie with no legs is essentially mission-killed. Walk up to it, pull out a sidearm, and finish it off.

Plus, you don't use artillery in a LOS situation. The Paladin described in the books has an effective range of 11 miles,  and fires a 155mm shell. The effective casualty radius for a 155mm shell is 150 meters, and turns everything within that radius into PASTE. The military should've been sitting 6 miles back, lobbing HE shells into the wave of zeds. The Infantry and Crew Weapons (LMGs, HMGS, Mortars, etc) would just mop up the chunky bits left over from the artillery bombardment.
