zifadel 48 Posted January 15, 2014 (edited) I was talking to my buddy about Dayz, and thought one thing that is definitely missing is weather. A lot of the time you can see your breath, which would indicate that it is cold enough in the game to snow. Adding possible snow fall to potential weather could have a lot of fun in game implications. 1) Visibility - would limit how far you could see, and could make raiding military bases easier in a snow storm hindering the vision of snipers2) Tracking a. Humans - With snow, comes footprints. It would be fun to have your footprints remain for a certain period of time if walking in an area that had snow fall. Either for a new spawn trying to avoid other players, or a cut throat bandit trying to find their next prey b. Animals - once Hunting is implemented, it certainly stands to reason that using animal footprints in the snow to track an animal would be a useful addition for an observant hunter Edited January 15, 2014 by Zifadel
knifeparty 109 Posted January 15, 2014 I know I've already seen rain... snow would be pretty cool. I wonder if making it stick to the ground would be a programming challenge. I kinda like where your going with this.
BuddyRP 41 Posted January 15, 2014 (edited) i was actually about to post something along these lines. the current loot table already consists of things such as winter fluff coats (or whatever theyre called), russian winter hats, winter hunting pants and matching jackets... so why not have a bit of winter within the game itself? give the map and players a little more variety of environment to play with and explore. my thought was far up north around the same elevation and / or higher as the new guba town, make it a snow-covored wasteland / forest that extends across the entire top sliver of the map or at least maybe in the very corner(s).. being in these areas could require warmth similar to namalisk where you need warm winter clothing to survive / stay warm. lakes that are furthest up north could even be frozen over where you could find items that could cut through the ice and go ice fishing right over the lake / pond itself. potential items to add for the environment could be - snow shoes / crampons or cross country skis (faster snow travel so you dont sink within the snow)- a full body snow suite- goggles- winter gloves - winter boots- ice climbing pick ( new mele weapon)ect... the list could go on forever and has a lot of potential i think :) i hope this gets taken into thought! libertine 351 Posted January 15, 2014 Was just thinking about this. We need more weather and and changes in times of day. Arbitrarily choosing to assign realism to the normal progression of time is annoying when you can patch a hole in your face with a bandage and go merrily on your way. I kinda like where your going with this.It would be, from my understanding they couldn't really do random snow and have the snowfall stay put afterwards. They would need to make (copy) a new map and edit it for snow details, paint the ground with snowdrifts, ect.
OrLoK 16188 Posted January 15, 2014 Hello there Dynamic Snow has been done on another fork of the RV engine, whether R has access to that technology is a different thing altogether. We all want it. Will we see it? Who knows? Rgds LoK
