Loot spawning idea - an idea that makes everyone happy.

Recommended Posts

Ok, so we have people that want loot to spawn at random,

and we have others that want it to be as it is now, predictable.

Rope in a shed, M4's in a barracks, things that make sense.

Now I agree with the ladder myself, I can see why people would want loot to be spawned at random.

It would remove memorization of loot routes and add that sense of confusion and that feeling of not knowing,

which is important in a game like DayZ.

So I said to myself, why not have both?

Why not keep it the way it is now, but add a percentage of random buildings in every town that can spawn anything.

So a house that normally spawns canned food and clothes would now have a chance to randomly place any item anywhere in that house.

So not only would the buildings that are chosen to have the random loot be chosen at random,

but the placement of said item would have a chance of spawning anywhere in the building it's in.

Now, it wouldn't all be entirely random.

Guns would have a much less of a chance of spawning and things like rope and burlap would have a higher chance.

So now you can still have your route that you normally take, but now you never know what you might find on your way.

Thought's?

Additions?

Problems?

I'm sure there is someone out there who can find a reason why I'm a douche bag for having this idea, lol!

Edit:

This idea is mainly to give people a reason to search every house.

M4's would not be found in random houses very often, if at all. They would be extremely rare to find outside an airfield or police station.

I would like to see most guns found in residential houses to be in a locked gun case or cabinet.

I could live with that, I get really bored while looting specific houses since I know there's only food I can find in there. Looting would be so much more fun if it was randomized a lot more.

PS: Way less long range weapons

PSS: NO MORE M4 SPAWNS PLEASE, nothing is more frustrating than finding a M4 from a school building when you know the closest place to spawn magazines and ammo is 4 KM away...

I personally would love to have everything randomized. It would make the journey and gearing up much more exciting and less predictable and would be a good way to keep people from farm-hopping servers.

It's got to make some sense, random houses shouldn't be filled with automatic weapons, and military bases should have more than rotten fruit. Gotta figure out how to balance this out.

Of course.

This is just a general idea.

True that, but still: it's the apocalypse, people, maybe even some military people tried to save their asses as  hell is about to break loose and nothing really matters anymore anyways, left their bases and tried to hide in abandoned cities, or some convoy trying to pass a city got charged by a group of panicing residents who took them down (edit: there IS military vehicles in cities already that look like they had an accident).

Maybe soldiers got infected themselves while en route to some destination...

Having military gear only in military bases is somewhat logical but on the other hand, it would be logical to have that stuff somewhere else too.

I'm not saying M4s should to be found everywhere like rotten fruit, but I totally like the idea of having everything randomized. It would make me look every single house in every single city, it would keep people from server hopping, and it would add a constant danger on every place as people wouldn't focus anymore on areas like airfields, military bases, elektro and so on. More thrill, more fun, more paranoia and last but not least: much  less predictable looting wise and hence more happy faces when people actually find a decent gun.

And again: THIS would reduce server hopping a lot imho.

I would not want something like that. It would take so much from the game if you just find a M4 anywhere in some little village. The new police stations spawn enough guns and they are like everywhere.

BUT. Something I could go along with would be something I could reproduce. Dead soldier in some house- has a gun and ammo on him. Military blockade in a village- maybe some military stuff. Crashed military truck/ chopper- some badly damaged weapons, but maybe one does still work?

I said in the OP that guns would have a way less of a chance to randomly spawn, like extremely rare.

Still- no M4 on the kitchen table. Make it somehow realistic. No soldier would leave his gun in a house but die with it.

I would much rather see a body clutching an M4 in a house than one on a kitchen table, but like I said in the OP, the chance of finding an M4 on a kitchen table would be next to none.

Finding them in a locked gun case or cabinet would be better than laying around.

But ...speaking of realism...is it realistic that no soldier ever left the military base? Or didn't they cary any guns when leaving the base? And after they got infected, they ran back to the base, dropped their gun there and then ran back to the cities?

There already is vehicles damaged by accident in the cities, there is Zeds in military clothing int he cities, where are their guns?

No thats why the gun would be on their dead body. What about you read my posts?

Personally, I would love to walk into a log cabin in the middle of the woods that otherwise wouldn't have any loot in it, only to be confronted by a veritable arsenal of weapons, a few rotting corpses, and no ammunition.

We need some corpses anyway. I love the smell of rotten flesh.

That's just splitting hairs: what would be the difference between M4 lying on the kittchen table or dead soldier with M4 lying on the kittchen table? The outcome would be the same, just with different looks. Same request should apply to military bases then too, as there is heaps of equip lying around and no dead bodies around at all. ..and (in case you haven't read my post) what's with all these dead soldier Zeds wandering around with no gun? These Zeds are in the city without any weapon, so logic tells me their gun must be somewhere in the city too.

Again:

having weapon-loot having the chance to spawn anywhere on the map would

* be more realistic

* be more thrill

* make people to actually play the game and not just camp/ server hopp airfields and military bases, try to be one-man-army, rinse repeat

/edit: I'm not saying the number of weapons should get increased, not at all I'd even prefer to have WAY less weapons in the game (or at least make them harder to farm). This game should be about survivial and not server-hopping airfields.

I enjoy the idea of total chaos random loot.

As mentioned, the refreshment of "exploration" would gain from it.

And yes, might be strange to some but many players are not gamers. There is a fundamental difference which, I am sure, many decades old computer games players can identify with.

An M4 on a wood cabin ? Who left it there ? Was it broken ? Or did the deceased owners had it for spare ? Did they leave in a hurry ?

All these "role playing" won't matter as soon as you put it in your hands, that is granted, but can give a reason to be to that same chaotic entropic scenario of equipment spread everywhere. Damn, even a defib or a press vest could be found in a shack somewhere...

I like it. Maybe the the military zombies don't need to have M4s maybe a 45 that was in there vest or a clip or ammo in there pockets. I think we should have police zombies with the same idea but civilian ammo weapons or clips inside.

I think that certain loot does belong in certain places, however i agree and think there should be a percentage chance (no matter how small) that anything can spawn anywhere.

If there are M4s just lying around in fire stations why wouldn't there be a chance that one was left in a random house?

It would mean that checking every building could be a worthwhile exercise.

The only reason to make loot spawn random is to screw over the server hoppers.

Leaving most or all of the loot as is and adding a bit of randomness doesnt do the trick.

Full randomized loot spawn is the only way;

Grade / type / location and time must all be variables.

You dont want to find an m4 in the outhouse? Come up with a better way to stop serverhoppers.

i support this idea. but i am definitely in the camp of people who want random spawns. the only thing - literally, the only thing - killing this game for me is having memorized what houses and facilities are worth looting and which are always empty. that is nothing but immersion breaking.

hoping they utilize every space as at least a small chance of having loot. even shitty loot. when i blow into a town now, i know exactly which buildings to hit and it kind of kills any reason for exploration, and frankly, playing just now.

I think having random locked doors would be good too, particularly if it meant that better loot spawned inside, imagine going to balota on a high pop server and risking breaking down a door.
