Server hopping will only stop when random loot is implemented

Recommended Posts

So, I was tired of being a nice player after seeing everyone else fully geared and decided to do some server hopping.

Well guess what happened,

I tried a lot of servers and all the airfields/military bases were completely empty, and that means nothing but prove that everybody is server hopping.

If we had a full random loot location this wouldn't be a issue because everybody would have a reason to explore the whole map and airfields would just be a regular "house".

Unfortunately flashlights lights during the day are way more important than that.

The thing is, they are trying to find a proper way to implement it, without causing massive server lag. We all want it dude but it would be better if they take their time and figure out the best way instead of rushed... or we will all suffer terribly.

I also believe I read something saying they are working on it, with zombies already respawning it should come soon, im sure the system will be similar to that.

We all just hope it will be sooner then later fo sho. I have some faith it will be.

Been said a million times before, but there are many people involved in the project.  Are the people who work on creating items and mapping etc supposed to just sit and do nothing while the staff who work on netcode and collision issues etc work on the major bugs?  Everyone in the crew is working on the parts they are there to work on, some things just get done sooner due to ease of solution than others.

Just be patient, I am sure they are busting their asses to get the major items solved... some things take more time than others :)

I have no idea why people are bashing the flashlight working on daylight.

I ran for 45 minutes across the map on an empty server to find military loots at NWAF, only to find it had been looted and I ran all the way for nothing. Rage quit that day.

I recommend you to join a server with "rapid" restart times. I've my favourite with a 6 hrs refreshing rate and that works fine. You never come to a place completely clean, no matter how many ppl are playing :)

Unless they make loot respawn every 5 minutes, players will take the least path of resistance to make them appear to be uber leet players who worked hard to get their gear, which is of course, server hopping.

[...] and airfields would just be a regular "house".

I agree to some degree, but the chance of finding spesific items on spesific locations is necessary. That's the locations where people need to be on the alert of other players.

I did my own share of server hopping in the beginning, not understanding how much I cheated (yes, I'm an idiot), where I logged out in hiding on a military base, and logged back in to servers with low pop on that seemed to just have been restarted. I hope that there is a way they could implement a system that didn't allow people to log out from any location, but not sure how they could do that. Could maybe do it like in they do in certain MMOs, where logging out inside spesific building regens your health or something like that.

The goddamn ALf-pic made me laugh...and forget what I was going to rant. Damn.

"Flashlights per day is more important":

Ah, I know. look at my signature. Now back to me. Now back to my signature. Read it (not the part about the server rules). Think about it.

And from the last live stream, I quote Hicks:

No ETA on respawning loot, but it is being worked on; only ETA that can be given: Soon.

I believe they just need to add comparable weapons/gear in other places, nullifying the need for everyone to focus military areas. Those items should be more or less cosmetic choices rather than the sole method to kit out. Also randomizing item spawn rather than set to server reset would go a long way. Most players can easily figure out when to hop where to get first dibs.

As far as I know, this is the way it will be implemented (if the Devs didn't change their mind) : At server start only a random, small amount of loot will spawn. Everything else gets a random timer (half hour was minimum as far as I remember) for intial spawn, if somethig gets looted, the loottable gets again an randomized timer like it was an initial spawn...

i approve

a proper loot system is in development, conside we just got spawning zombies. it is probably not far off.

However im desperately awaiting this...fucking server hop timer is only relevant if loot spawns (not only on restart..)

No, would make airfields totally useless as a place for geared people. Why go to an airfield if military loot can spawn in a city full of buildings you can enter? See the issue here? People would no longer server hop the airfields, but everywhere else now.

With respawning loot you are still most likely only going to find military gear in military areas which will cause those areas to be perma-camped and make it near impossible for some people to get that specific type of gear.

Introduce loot respawn.... problem solved

Exactly! along with hard coded "buffer periods" prior to chance of spawn on the majority of gear.  This could mean (for the sake of an example) that the majority of higher end loot on the map would not start having a chance to spawn untill 30 minutes after the server comes up.  If rarity was also factored into the spawn rates within these hardcoded buffers, it could in some cases take hours and hours (or possibly days) for some of the extra rare items to show up.

In the end, a combination of what I described above, along with private server hives is going to be the only real solution.

Low pop servers should spawn next to no loot - that's how you deter people from server hopping.

If a server starts with a high pop and it dwindles down, loot should start to "decay" and disappear until the server starts filling again.

Loot respawn should only be on regular servers.

I do not want loot to be easy to find all the time.

I want to struggle to survive, not be pampered by the game giving me loot every ten minutes or whatever the time would be.

Please no loot respawn in HC servers!

Loot respawn alone wont stop server hopping; loot respawn with a server lock will. When you log into a server you are locked to that server for a complete cycle of day/night and server hopping stops. People also server hop when playing hero/bandit role as well as just gearing up. Being locked to a server for a cycle alone would stop hopping but without loot respawn would still be a game of getting on a fresh server first, gearing out and waiting in the hot spots for others to come for gear. The implementation of police stations and med centers in multiple places (at least 14 more from what I have read in forums) will also help out. Mostly some patience on the part of the players to allow the dev team to address the issue IN THIS PRE ALPHA game is needed.

If the loot respawn is tweaked and balanced well it will stop server hopping. Of course the amount of loot has to be lowered, because right now, when a server restarts, there is too much loot around. Also military loot has to be lowered as well.

The only ways to flat out stop server hopping is to flat out stop the game.  AKA shut down all servers, so there are no servers to hop.  Or create a huge timer on log in/log out so that after you log out you must wait ~5 hours to log in.

Even in the mod with respawning loot people still server hopped in deer stands and airfields, so that they could try and shortcut gearing up.

As for military areas getting camped, this happened in the mod as well, read the mod section or google dayz mod sniping and almost all of it will be in cites or airfields.  And that is what makes night play worth it, and why I don't want nightvision.  If you can't see 500m at night you can't camp with a scoped rifle to wait for people to look for gear, and most campers don't want to wait in a building for hours because they are taking a bigger risk.

Random Respawn

Grade / Type / Location / Time

^ should all be variables.
