ruullor 56 Posted March 2, 2014 I would think that power plants would go offline within hours of nobody tending to them, let alone they would go offline once they run out of fuel. I cant think of any (nuclear, solar, wind, hydro) that would run for more then a few days with nobody tending them. mosibfu 71 Posted March 2, 2014 In Imaginary Russia.. they have solar cells on top of the street lights
TheLastEmp 295 Posted March 2, 2014 We'll say solar cells/wind and really effective and durable battery technology :P There has been a lot of discussion about having some sort of Generator in the larger towns (or multiple generators) that you can restore and put fuel in in order to get more of the street lights illuminated. We'll see what happens going forward, but I can't foresee them disabling the couple street lights scattered around the place that do still work somehow.
oregonized 673 Posted March 2, 2014 I just assumed they are solar powered street lights. /shrug
Whyherro123 2283 Posted March 2, 2014 A lot of the streetlight in my city are solar powered, and that in a lower-level city in the US.
Caboose187 (DayZ) 3036 Posted March 2, 2014 Umm, I believe it's a glitch and those lights are not suppose to be on. For whatever reason they put them in to even make this glitch is beyond me but there is a lot bigger priorities besides these street lamps. Also if you actually walk up to them you'll see that there isn't even a light on them
antonioajc 500 Posted March 2, 2014 A lot of the streetlight in my city are solar powered, and that in a lower-level city in the US.I don't think that's the case in Post Soviet State. I think they accidentally left those street lights there from Arma 2.
enforcer1975 1111 Posted March 2, 2014 (edited) A lot of the streetlight in my city are solar powered, and that in a lower-level city in the US. Don't compare a backwater country with the USA. What's standard in the states isn't standard in the rest of the world. They still go minimum lights or even turn them off in some parts of the community i live in and that's in the exurbs about 17km outside of the city. And there is no solar panel attached to the light poles unless the Chernarussians are 100 years ahead of us and invented the cloaked solar panel or maybe each light source has it's own nuclear power plant? combatcomm1 234 Posted March 2, 2014 Prob testing the lighting???? Hmmm?? Maybe?? Sound plausable?? I think they are testing it for the future "turn the power grid back on end game" feature. But that could be wishful thinking.

But that could be wishful thinking. I like your wishful thinking. I've been getting angry at those lights for months now. At I'll be consoled in thinking they are testing it for end game content. Even if it doesn't happen I won't be angry at those lights for several months.

Karmaterror 982 Posted March 2, 2014 Its bugged me since release this lol. In the mod they chose to have them off, so why on now? I personally think it adds to the desolate post apocolypse feel to have cities and towns dark.....bar the odd burning oil drum :)

Highlander007 249 Posted March 2, 2014 Why should street lights work? They shouldn't. But I'm really interested in what the fanboy base has to say about it.

Fry76 23 Posted March 2, 2014 There are some electricity cause I visit at Topolka dam often to check that it is fine and working. But most of wires in citys have been destroyed by bunnies, that I cannot repair. Am I convincing?
River Lizard 47 Posted March 4, 2014 At least make it so a player can shoot them out if they wish. Ideally making it so you could fire up the electric plant again and all the lights come on in a city (even in buildings (hallways, rooms, etc..) wouldn't that scare the crap out of a few players looting in the dark?!!!! Of course I'd hate to be the dude at the power plant....I'd think after about 5 minutes he'd have a world-of-hurt coming his way from other players looking to shoot him!! Monkfish (DayZ) 339 Posted March 4, 2014 I would think that power plants would go offline within hours of nobody tending to them, let alone they would go offline once they run out of fuel. I cant think of any (nuclear, solar, wind, hydro) that would run for more then a few days with nobody tending them. Or am I just being to anal about the whole zombie apocalypse thing?Pretty much all modern day powerstations are automated, people are just around to keep an eye on things and intervene when shit fucks up - amusing aside, if you can call it amusing; every nuclear disaster has always been the result of one or more person's fuckup :D - so as long as nothing major goes wrong or the fuel doesn't run out, powerstations will just keep going. Of course, this won't be forever, things will eventually fuck up (which is why people are there) or it'll run out of fuel or something else will stop it, but it stands to reason to expect the power to be on for a short time after a zombie/virus-based apocalypse. How long? Pfft. How long's a piece of string? There are so many variables to contend with it would be impossible to say. I'm not sure what the timeframes are between the release/spread of the virus and now, but if it's a few months then the power may still be on. Or it's just a graphical glitch/map fault that's so low on the priorities list it's written in the footer.
