When does your "switch" flip during an encounter?

Recommended Posts

At least you're consistent in your ignorance.

I'm going to call you Nancy Grace from now on, because I'm guessing you still think people on marijuana kill whole families.

xD what the heck are you talking about?

Unfortunately for other players, when I'm clearing a building, and they round the corner. I always have a powerful firearm up and ready when I'm indoors. It's a twitch reaction, I will be the faster on the trigger. I either keep both barrels of a shotgun, or a blaze toggled and ready for maximum casualty.

I cannot stress this enough folks: do not follow an armed person into a building, Otherwise, you will be shot.

It just happens. my mind clouds over and I lose all sense of reason and conscience then I black out completely.
When I wake up from wherever I find myself in the middle of field, sprawled out in the midday sun wondering how the Fahrenheit I got there.

There's blood on my clothes and my stomach feels satisfied.

I'll generally only let players live if they provide some interesting conversation. If I hate their voice or if they immediately squeak friendly while moving towards me I won't hesitate to pull the trigger. Another big factor is how well they are geared up, where we are located on the map, and if there's an opportunity for a clean kill. For example, I met a player in the NE airfield while looting one of the buildings. He immediately shouted friendly and engaged in some decent conversation, then we proceeded to loot the remaining buildings together. After looting, I noticed that he had a PU scope on his Mosin and I started to notice by his body language and our friendly conversation that I would have a chance. I asked him if he had any extra blue shirts on him so I could join the chernarus police force and while he was turned away checking his inventory I popped him right in the head. This whole encounter probably lasted a couple of minutes.

*without clearly announcing your intentions and waiting for a response.

If none is forthcoming, run because they're likely waiting for you and plan to hunt you as soon as you leave.

If they say no, say okay and move on.

If they say yes, enter slowly and be as non-threatening as possible but be prepared to be shot anyway because some people are assholes like that. :p

Probably best just not to follow armed people into buildings if you want to make friendly contact. Wait until they're out in the open and approach them in a friendly manner with your weapon pointing at the ground.

My interactions tend to go along the lines of me saying  Alloooo!.. "Zoooooooooom"  Byeeeee!  Sometimes, if they say something funny or just plain respond, I'll turn around go "Zooooooom" again to gauge their friendliness.  I rarely get too attached to my kit, so if they happen to pull out a weapon I just try to weird them out or make them laugh too hard to bother shooting me.

A player approaching me, and shouting "FRIENDLY! FRIENDLY!", or "HEY MAN, YOU FRIENDLY?", will be executed in the speediest manner possible. I HATE it when people break my immersion with that shit. You don't have to roll play, but neither do you have to remind me I am using a key board by telling me to "PRESS F2!" (in that circumstance, even if you have the drop on me, im still gonna try to stab you with bullets).

Just as the title states, when is your big turning point to hostility in an encounter with another player? This is assuming of course we are not killing on sight here.

Think "two men come across each other on the road with weapons holstered" scenario. Neither of you have the upper hand, backup, and are equally geared so gear isn't really a factor.

So, once again, what certain, peeve i suppose, makes you just ice a fool?

It's all about thier actions and speech. I can tell right away whether things are gonna go good or bad so I proceed accordingly. What you really gotta watch out for are those sneaky bastards who seem cool but who will blast your ass as soon as your back is turned. This fuckin game, right?

My alarm goes off most of the time when someone follows me, when they say "I couldn't hear you - can you type it?", or when they just stand there and don't reply. If someone doesn't reply to you, just kill them - they were planning to do it to you.

OH almost forgot.

If you're alone in an area with two people you met that are confirmed talking in Skype or Teamspeak with each other, 98% of the time they're planning to kill you if they stop using the in-game voice chat to reply to you, or if they rarely reply to you.

I try to avoid all encounters and play "Lone wolf" style.

When I do bump into another player (usually when looting), I'll try to back off while attempting to contact them over Direct to let them know I'm not going to attack them if they don't attack me.

I go from Suspicious to Murderous if any on the following happen:

- Player doesn't communicate, but keeps moving closer or tries to get behind me.

- Player follows me after being told to GTFO.

- Player equips a weapon if previously shouldered / aims a weapon at me.

- Player communicates, but sounds 12 years old or Scouse.

- Player communicates, but is obviously in TS/Skype comms with someone else.

Everything mentioned above, combined with the following:

-Wearing a mask.

-Erratic behavior.

-Incongruent stories/comments.. If I sense a lie, I kill.

-Probing for information. (Location of camp, vehicle, how many friends I have around.. Referring mostly to DayZ mod here.)

-Admits to backstabbing/betraying others.

-Irrationally switches weapons/stances.

-Doesn't inform you if they intend on pulling out a weapon. (ie - I am going to pull out my axe for this zed.)

-Keeps moving around you as if trying to get behind you or out of your sight.

As mentioned in other posts, a lot of it is about how they come across in speech. I will often offer people to join TS if they want to join up. If they say they want to join up, but they refuse to join TS, then I become suspicious and break off the encounter.. If they start finding reasons for us to stay together, I know they're up to something.

Vaguely eastern European accents mean that they could possibly be Russian, and if so it's safer just to shoot them, given their reputation. Not a chance I like to take.

As much as I hate to say it, I am so guilty of this. I play almost exclusively on UK/GB servers and apart from a few incidents it seems like most people who kill me on sight are foreigners.

Barring a single unarmed Polish guy I held up (I didn't hurt him in any way, nor did I rob him), every encounter with anyone who sounded vaguely eastern European has ended up with me being shot at on sight. If that Polish guy was armed maybe he would too, who knows. Every single incident of this type also results in them saying something like "lol, bitch... bitch...  you my bitch... mother fuck lol" down the mic over and over again in a broken accent if they kill me.

Without exception every American player I have encountered on a UK/GB server has been a mouthy little shit, without exception. Usually newspawns, and usually run after me (no matter how far away I was) and try punching me as soon as they see me, mouthing off down the mic. I am not saying all American players are like this, but the ones who go on GB servers when it's late here are doing it to avoid full servers in their time zone and probably fit a certain personality type anyway.

I, and the friend I regularly play with, usually just kill people with accents from the above places now. It's not KoS, we wait until there is verbal communication.

The friendliest people I have encountered on UK/GB servers, after British people of course, are Germans. Simple as. I always have time for German players, some have saved my life, sometimes in some ridiculous places like NWAF where you would expect any player contact to be hostile.

I have a vague eastern european accent on the R and in >40h of playing i only shot someone with the intention to kill them 2 times. Most of the times I see someone that is near me i simply say 'Hello' or if they are far away i just ignore them.

Do i really deserve to be shot just because I didn't had the chance to get a grip on the 'correct' accent?I'm asking this because you said you shoot as soon as they start speaking and you hear their accent. If you see me unwielding my gun and greeting you in an eastern accent, will you also shoot me?

If I'm on a CZ or PL or something server, no. The problem is that all but one eastern European I have met on British servers seemed to only be there to troll.

I'm sorry but I don't make eastern Europeans come to British servers to troll, interacting with them on British servers simply is not worth the risk to me any more.

If you just have a vague accent on certain letters that probably doesn't even mean you're a foreigner, Britain itself is full of accents and there are some British accents I will shoot as soon as I hear, but if you sound like you're clearly from an eastern European country and on a British server with me I'm afraid I will shoot you.

I do a little bit of profiling. The following people get shot:

Squeak-teen voice means that, given the chance, the player will likely yolo/hashtag/teabag/dubstep on your grave and make off with your loot given the chance.

Vaguely eastern European accents mean that they could possibly be Russian, and if so it's safer just to shoot them, given their reputation. Not a chance I like to take.

enter thats racist meme here  :D

my killswitch gets pushed the second someone points his gun at me or he enters the 5m killzone around me, after i told him not to do so.

oh and i allways feel threatend  near airfields and or other military facilities.

exeptions are newspawns

Depends. If he pulls out a weapon, or tries to get behind me, usually. Which is often too late, because of latency, so I end up killing him but getting hurt myself. Still, it's better than taking the cowards way out and KoSing.
