A Typical SKS story

Recommended Posts

Me and a friend are coming up to Electro. We hear someone letting loose with an M4- probably a selfish bambi killer & we want to avenge the bambis shoot someone in the face so we sneak our way toward the gunfire. My friend takes the low ground, while I take the high. To make a long story short, my friend is killed and I sneak down the hill to find my buddy with his killer right above him, looting his body.

I am armed with the SKS, pu scope, over 300 rounds. Im standing and I take aim- his head is dead in my cross hairs and I pull the trigger.....

A puff of dirt shoots up from the ground. I zoom out and keep firing. More puffs of dirt at my feet. Now more. More. I move a little and more puffs of dirt, my bullets not getting through....

The guy is obviously alerted, whips out his m4 and lights me up.

Thank you, SKS.

You piece of unbelievable dogshit.

maybe you didnt scale your scope well... you put it on 300+ and you are on -100 m from target

or you where just start shooting right after sprinting so your aim is bad

or you have bad aim thats all

it happened to me with SKS too, i saw a guy crawling near the berezino hospital so i came to him and asked if he needs some help with broken legs... he wasnt responding and after few seconds pulls out his Blaze, so i shot him to the head from point blank standing right next to him, and I just saw a dirt coming from the air in front of me as the shot didnt came thru, i then unloaded whole magazine to him while moving because i thought theres some kind of invisible wall bug, and none of the shots came thru, he missed the first shot luckily and the second shot ruined my pants, but  neither broke my legs and neither i was bleeding, i then managed to run away until he loaded again.... long story short, SKS is bugged as f*ck(even tho i like it so i hope its fixed soon), this never happened to me with another gun

It must be the scope, in this game you have to adjust them. I didn`t know that as I was playing at my friends place. I had a mosing and LRS, situation was different but - I was shooting on 3 guys, I am on the highest point in Cherno (the silo), the 3 guys were on the other silo. So the distance was pretty short (short enough to hit directly in the head when pointing on it) I missed all the 5 shots, they all went too much to the left, too much. Buddy told me to adjust the LRS but I was dead already ^^ The distance was like max. 100 meters... I think the problem is the scope and not the weapon itself.

Yeah you can adjust scope but this is not the problem, its a collision bug as have been already said

this happened to me with a shotgun, except it was firing high not low. I equipped it and loaded it. I fired at zombie and it missed them by 5ft high.

I logged off then logged back on later. it was fixed.

Im guessing it was a collision bug because I equipped it in a building and it must have "collided" with the ceiling

There's currently a lot of bugs with slopes and invisible walls.  Usually if I'm prone on a slope I'll shoot dirt no matter where I aim, and occasionally if I'm crouching.  It's one of the more annoying bugs at the moment.

i believe its actually a collision bug with the grass

This, don't shoot while prone. At least for now.

I believe Dirty knows what he/she is doing when it comes to warfare, I agree with the collision bug, and the off chance that Dirty had her/his SKS scoped to a higher distance than 50.

I also have a strong distaste for the PU scope, the cross-hairs are far to wide/bold and leave you with a big chance for error when engaging in combat.

sks is fantastic, my go to weapon

your doing it wrong.

go up north, test out your rifles, optics, ranges, etc.

that way you know exactly how they work, bullet drop, etc.

m4's are for CQ and new players.

pray and spray

My fatal SKS experience...

One morning I was covering the NW side of the airfield at Bilota while some friends were checking out the Administration building.  I was kneeling behind a tree when this guy (all kitted out, M4, camo, assault vest, shotgun) comes walking by in a crouch right in front of me.  I was surprised that he didn't see me  as he was a mere 5meters in front of me.  He moved off to my right (about a 2 o'clock position) and crouched down next to a fence. He was still only about 10meters away and there were no bushes or grass between me and him. I raised my SKS (I only had iron sights).  I put the sights about the middle of his left shoulder and shot once. He didn't move, I shot again.  I'm not seeing blood or any sign of my bullets hitting anything.

He still doesn't know exactly where I am. He gets up and starts running from my previous 2 o'clock to around to my 5 o'clock. I shot three more times hastily (apparently not drawing any blood...but not really expecting to). Then I stood and started sprinting to his left toward some cover.  I was pulling my axe out as fast as I could.  He starts shooting at me with the M4. I turned toward him with my axe drawn. I see him drop his M4 as he brings a shotgun out and starts shooting (apparently he had the unlimited shotgun ammo script). I managed to get two hits on him with my axe (this time I drew blood) before he fatally shot me with the shotgun.

I dunno.  I've killed zombies with the SKS for practice (both at range and up close).  I will admit that he took my quite by surprise, so I didn't check to see what my SKS was sighted in for.  But even so, at 10meters aiming at his shoulder, I should have hit something.  Unless the ballistics of the bullets are based upon fantasy?  I'll have to try it out against a wall sometime.   In the meantime, if they're close enough and don't know I'm there, I think I'll just stick with the axe.

If it was at your feet then it means you have encountered the oft mentioned collision bug. It has absolutely nothing to do with the SKS, or the ranging of the scope or any of that, it will happen just the same with any other gun in the game, if you happen to stand at a bad spot (most places on sloping ground tend to be bad spots).

I disagree. 7 of my buddies all have SKS horror stories, exlusive to the SKS.

Well someone killed me and a buddy (through a wall) with an SKS earlier today, and he shot me in the head with his only shot on me.  I got my gun back then shot a guy with my SKS in the face from 30 meters away with a PU scope on it no problem.  Think my SKS was still zeroed in at 100m.

The only time I've had shots hit ground is when I was prone and was shooting the grass infront of me.

I did some tests and it seemed the sks LOST accuracy when adding a PU scope. No idea why it would do that but w/e. Iron sights, I can nail a Z in 1 shot @ 200-300m. After that, the Z is just a tiny black line and incredibly hard to line up with.

I dunno how this is happening to all you guys, but the SKS is as accurate as always for me! The only problem I have is the unrealistic PU scope which doesn't have it's true zoom.

That's what you get for sending your buddy on the low ground to his death while you wimped out on the high ground not even covering him.  :D :P

Weapons: Long-range scope reticle properly centered

I don't know if it applies only to Long range scope for Mosin .. but there is a fix in the next patch scheduled on 5th March
