Goodbye Dayz

Recommended Posts

It is astonishing how the OP gets flamed for sharing his opinion and telling he is leaving. From one point I can totally understand his frustration. It is simply a total pain in the a' when you try to test some things (on the experimental servers) and you get killed on sight.

But I guess it easier to flame somebody out of the anonymity on the internet than trying to understand whether what he says might really be an issue, eh?

If the alpha release was made to test and give feedback, I would appreciate if you could at least do so on the experimental servers without getting disturbed. Thus I'd appreciate a 'punish button' on the experimental servers for the time this game is in alpha. You get killed, press the button and your killer will be dead. Your dead body will be revived with the same health condition and gear it was before getting killed.

Lame? No, not if your intention is to test and to give feedback to the dev team. Lame is to shoot on freshspawns because of 'shooting practice' or any other lame excuse for this behaviour.

If you want to test rifles and guns and you get shot, you do this on purpose and simply don't press the 'punish button'.

Anyone else who bothers you on the experimental servers will regret what they did as they just got 'punished'.

When I read on Steam about this game which said for example 'don't buy it unless you want to get involved in the development' (by means of giving feedback and to test mechanics, not by means of being part of the dev-team), I thought it would be a great chance to see an upcoming game where you can probably help to spot bugs, exploits, balance issues etc.

When I downloaded this game my intention was to test and to give feedback. Unfortunately this is not really possible. Or only if you teamed up and get covered. But this shouldn't be the focus in the alpha I think.

While this game is in alpha (in my opinion we are supposed to test and to give feedback, not to play this game!) everyone should have the option to do so without getting disturbed by KOS. (Experimental servers only.)

I've said this in a different topic already, KOS is (from my point of view) absolutely not part of roleplay. Roleplay and PvP, yes! Of course. But in roleplay your intention is to interact with other players. This is simply impossible when you get attacked on sight.

Thus, RP and KOS no. RP and PvP, yes!

Should KOS be possible when the game is released? Of course. Once there are private servers those players, who don't want to do KOS and want to avoid being KOS, can easily join there and are somewhat save.

For the time being, with reference to the players who want to give feedback without getting disturbed by KOS, I'd appreciate the punish button (or any other way) on the experimental servers ONLY (and just for the time of alpha).

I personally believe, that this game could have had way more patches, bugfixes, feedback given etc. if the option to KOS on the experimental servers were restricted.

I teamed up with some guys on the experimental as we wanted to test what was added there and to give feedback to the dev-team. Unfortunately this is not possible as you get killed all the time and these people simply make it impossible to get involved by means of testing and giving feedback.

I do not think I have to explain that what I've written above is not supposed to be a 'cry' post since some of you guys will flame me for this anyway but I hope the dev-team will see this and consider a mechanic that will allow players who want to test and give feedback to do so in the future without careing every second about a player who might kill you.

Again, KOS is fine with the final release or maybe beta, but for time of alpha there should be a way to avoid it at least on the experimental servers. Otherwise the dev-team will get less feedback from the community which leads to delay in bugfixing and development. Furthermore evey delay in developing your game will cause more and more costs to this company. Simple fact.

Goodbye!

It has been a lovely time with you, but i see nothing more than getting hurt over and over again.
Not that you are not challenging enough, it's simply  your residents are not able to play on a human level.

Why do I have to get shot, when I wave at somebody and loud and understandable  say "Friendly! Hello!"?

Because that shows everyone you are weak. OR: it is the oldest bait in the book. Lots of people say that to trick people.

You get peace through strength

I realy hope in an real apocalyptic scenario, the people come to value life more. And that there are much less guns.

Nope. We'll have bombs and IED's too! You don't need zombies, just go to Afghanistan and you'll see

I know, it's not your fault, but as long as this does not change we have to split.

If you have watched the walking dead for example other people seems to be bigger threat than zombies.. Just saying in apocalyptic world filled with zombies would make some sense to KOS other people and take their gear. Well atleast for some people. Also its quite working way to protect yourself... And what is "human level" on apocalyptic world filled with zombies...

Completely agree. If people run at me screaming friendly friendly, they get shot in the head or in the legs instantly. Screaming friendly does not give you a free pass. No, I don't trust you when you come running at me, no I don't want to deal with you.

Do it properly. I was in the hotel in Elektro looting a corpse, I hear footsteps downstairs... So I tell him "Hey buddy, I can hear you walking down there, what do you want?"  He said he was sorry for running into me, but he was getting sniped from a guy in the hayfields and he ran for cover. I asked him if he had a weapon, and he said he picked up a SKS but he did not have any ammo. I told him to come up with the weapon on his back, and don't make a sudden move so we could spot the guy who was shooting at him and take him out. He comes up, I'm aiming at him, he panicks and tells me to not shoot him.. I said that he shouldn't worry and that he could come in carefully. He sits next to me and points me towards the guy in the hayfield. I spot up, but he is just searching for cover behind a haystack.

I tell the guy I could give him some SKS ammo and for him to run out, go around the hayfield while I keep the guy in the field pinned down by mosinfire.. He agrees. I drop a stack of 20 rounds, taking a huge risk, but he's good for it and runs out, circling around the hayfield. As soon as I spot the other guy, I take a shot at him and he ducks back behind the haystack. This goes on for a few minutes until my newly aquired friend runs up behind him and pops him in the head.

Mission accomplished! I put my gear on my back and sprint towards the hayfield. There is my new friend in the dead guy's gear. Thanking me and telling me this is the first time he's got a loadout like this. Full of pride he shows me the fully modded Mosin and the extra M4 the guy had on his back. I told him he did a great job. He then said he would go to a better position to sort out his new gear and explore more in Cherno.

He turned around and right there I shot him in the back of the head with my Magnum. I then told my friend on teamspeak who was running all the way from Kamishovo to come out the barn where he was hiding for a few minutes and get the gear. There we were, succesfully used a person to kit out my friend. Because I'm a dick, and if you trust someone who you've just met for 3 minutes, chances are you will die soon. I will use you for the benefit of my own and my friends.

And that is what is making this game so amazing! The psychology, the social interaction.... Welcome to Day Z. Yeah it's buggy, yeah it's not finished, but it's a wonderful game.

I wish I could give you negative beans.  You had no reason to kill him and he was probably on cloud nine since he met someone who didn't kill him on sight.  Fucking scumbag.  This was a great story too until that 2nd to last paragraph.

It's a scumbag move sure, but his friend is now kitted out so he did have a reason to kill him.

And the poor dead guy could have avoided it if he never turned his back on him.

Nice move? Nope, but fair game and far from being a bambi KoS situation.

I love these topics.  First off, with 1.5 million sales, how many hundreds of thousands of players have stopped playing without feeling the need to get a public pity party?

Additionally, you can't run around on COD Ghosts trying to kiss other players and get angry when all you get is shot.  This is DayZ.  It is a post apocalyptic survival game.  If someone wants to live and they see you, they might shoot.  Why should they do anything else, because you don't want to be shot?

I am not knocking your frustration, I am questioning your understanding of the game.  Some fool wandering around in the open will be called an idiot by a friendly player (like me), ignored (by me if you are in a public area and I don't want to be exposed), tortured for being too trusting (by an alarmingly large number of players), or just filled with lead (the most likely scenario.

I have played entire lives with no guns just to see how long I could survive.  I actually lasted three days moving around the coast and Berezino.  Now I rarely just walked out and waved my hands.  I called out from cover and watched the reaction of the players.  People are people, but if you are honest and listen, you can generally tell how things might end.  There are few legitimate psychopaths playing this game, so you can appeal to a person as another human.  But remember, some people are playing this game for the thrill of the kill, not to talk about their favorite Marvel hero.

See, what I would do is not actually kill him but tell my friend exactly where this guy was so that he could take a shot and I would act as if I tried to defend him. Even give him some of his gear back. That way he'd still trust me even if I kept setting him up over and over again.

Usually it's the noob preaching about morales and justice. That or they are uber serious ego patting nerds. No one should dictate or look down anyone based on a videogame lol.

Wow! just wow!

I used to be REALLY frustrated by KoS'rs until I started thinking about what others have said here. To be killed on sight you need to be in sight.

I stopped getting attached to my gear knowing I can do it again.  Yes it could take awhile to get it again but there chances of running into humans is still there and the tension is still thick in the air.

Me and Danger do like to play with bambi's but it's never a kill on sight situation. We like to make them do wacky things and do the obligatory pants thieving.

In one instance we ended up meeting a group of really good people and players because we toyed with a bambi but didn't kill them.  Now our group went from 2 to 5or6 just because of this chance meeting.

As for the situation above where the poor dude got shot in the back after helping..yup that's a totally realistic situation everyone should be prepared for. At the same time you have to take those chances.  Anything can happen in this game.

This game is NOT CoD, it's NOT Battleflield. There is much more at risk when you die so you really need to be careful.  Every death is a lesson on sticking your head out and taking a chance saying hi to somebody. even a bambi.  You can get knocked out quickly and lose all your stuff without even dying.

to the OP sorry dude you can go enjoy something else as it seems you haven't learned how this game is different from a traditional FPS. Enjoy your Peggle 2

Oh I was reading alright, until I saw roll play and glanced at the caps. After that I decided your were an idiot, well just a little bit.

And this will kill the entire X factor of the game. If all the non-KOS'ers jump off to private servers, public hives will just be one giant non-stop battlegrounds where the "is this guy cool?" will be gone, because only KOS players will remain there.

I've made a TON of friends on Steam from random interactions and team ups in this game. You just have to approach people right, and avoid groups of geared people.

I also love how people try to justify that KOS and PVP are mutually exclusive, as though all gun fights HAVE to be about people approaching one another, talking things out and then agreeing to a gun fight. No.

If you're fully kitted out and just running from one airbase to the next, I'm going to assume you are dangerously. If there are 3 or more of you, I will set up an ambush so long as I'm confident I can survive it.

Now KOS'ing Bambis on the coast is a different thing. That's simply meta gaming to shoot at defenseless players in an attempt to make people rage quit, and it's a scumbag thing to do.

It's not scumbag. It's a d-day simulator.

When bambis make it past the coast, it will feel great to have survived a tough challenge. There's that rush: " I'm in, where am I...who cares...just get the hell out of here and then worry about it"
